After much lurking and reading, I have decided one of the RWS 34's will be my next air rifle. But, which to choose?

My thoughts are: I prefer a traditional wood stock. I would rather buy one without a scope so that I can choose the scope I want. For my use, barrel length is not a big factor one way or the other. I don't want to throw money away but I don't want to give up performance or functional refinements - that is, I don't want to pay for pure aesthetics, but I am not particularly price sensitive, either.

Any info or direction you can give me will be appreciated.

What do you plan to mostly to do with the rfile? Target shoot or hunt and what?

The panthers are good with there synthetic stocks with rubber but pad, but I like the wood stocks, the 34's are excellent don't matter which route you take it just depends on whether you mind it getting dinged up or not. For me it is a tool and they get used. the 2 bottom ones are 34,s .177+.22

I know the 34's are utilitarian, but I went with the Panther in .22 for hunting. I didn't want a scratched up stock. My .177 is wood because it never leaves the yard.

You might consider the Meisterschutz Pro or the Pro Compact. I have one that's full sized and it's accurate and pleasant to shoot.

I got the Classic with T06 trigger late last year. I did a very simple tune with factory parts(from Umarex) and it is one smooth tack driver. Avg. is 720 fps. with Crosman Premeir Hollowpoints. Scope is a 3-9x32 Centerpoint from Wal-Mart( the rifle killed a 3-9X32 Leaper's which I had to send back and pay postage to have replaced--If/when the Centerpoint dies I'll just bring it back to Wally-World and get another). Bottom line--it's a nice rifle. Give it a try and you'll love it too.

Too much chance of getting a problem one ....heck the scope rail fell off mine and it had the outsourced barrel.

Good question! I should have mentioned that I plan to use it only for plinking and punching paper in my yard. So, I am thinking .177 caliber and don't need a bazillion fps velocity.

Well a Cometa 220 compact in .177call shoot around 700fps also an HW30/R7 is a nice back yard gun very accurate with out over doing the power and making too much noise to disturb the neighbors! a BSA lightning XL is another good choice, the 34's are good guns but way to much power for the back yard and they have allot of muzzle noise, their are allot of gun's that will meet your needs out there but I'd buy a quality gun over all and not something that will cause you headaches! just my 2ct

Not an issue in my back yard. ;-)

All input is appreciated but, remember, the original question was not which gun but which 34. Looking at the Umarex website and the offerings of the various vendors, I am having a hard time being sure what is what.

Let me ask my question a different way. If I want the best .177 caliber Model 34 with a wood stock and no scope, is there any variant I should be looking at besides the basic Model 34 with the T06 trigger?

Now I'm speaking about the older style wood stocked M34 (like those in Rob's photo) which I used to have. I thought the stocks too plain and utilitarian. So when I purchased my next M34, I went for the Panther synthetic. I really like that stock. Now mine is a TO5 older style, not like the one currently shown on PA's website. It looks to me like the newer wood stocks on the TO6 models may be improved. I'm not sure, I've never seen one in person. I guess it boils down to your personal preference. Some people are dyed in the wool wood stock and blued metal, and don't like the new fangled "plastic" stocks.

I have gone back-and-forth. For awhile, I was in the stainless steel/synthetic stock mode on firearms. Now, I seem to be going through a traditional phase. All are good!

I have one with wood, and one with the synthetic. Both are nice, but the synth is definitely "buzzier".

if it was me id get the pro compact and a 4-16x50AO leapers scope to go with it also consider better scope mounts such as the bkl one piece mounts or utg droop compensating mount with hawke low rings so the scope doesn't move at all i have this setup on my 34 and its rock solid. and always check the stockscrews they get loose after a day of shooting.

If your just gonna punch paper a .177cal is the way to go! and definately get a T06 triggered gun they are nicer than the T05 and way more adjustable, that said its down to the stock? the newer wood stocks are slimer and feel really good in the hand I had one and sold it to my brother cause I want the 34P T06 gun so I don't have to worrie about bangin up the stock, I personaly do not like the 34 guns but the new models are very nice so I'm gonna give another one a go to see if I can live with it, this one will be #5 for me! theirs just something about them I don't like but as said the T06 guns are worth me putting in the effort to want to keep one!

I have the same dilemma. I want the new 34, T06 with wood stock, but I like the older T05 stock and sites. Good trigger or good stock & sites? Does anyone know if you can remove the FO sites and replace them with the post-globe.

My wood stocked Pro has a hard rubber butt pad on it, My Classic wood stock T06 has a hard plastic butt pad. I am not sure if the Panthers new style stock has a rubber or plastic butt pad. I would have bought the Panther but it was not available with the T06 when I bought.

Also the T06 do not have the dovetail for the older style front sight under the plastic front sight.
