Its the hose that came with it the steel braiding was all through my ankle you can see it all frayed in the picture. I havent owned the pump that long. I never thought about the brass fitting that is what it came with. I was just looking at the pic on pyramyd air and it looks steel. Hmm wonder if i got a repackaged pump from the get go.

sorry to hear about your pump and glad your OK and not hurt all that bad. But I have to ask the same question Bob asked. looking at your pump and mine, looks like someone made some changes to yours.
you say the pump came that way, did you buy it new or used. my benji pump doesnt have a filter on it, and not where the hose is suspose to be conneced to, and where your hose is should be for the relieve valve, at least that what mine looks like. as far as the hose and tha brass QC, if you bought the pump used, maybe someone put a lower rated hose (C02) and not a high rated HPA hose, it could explain the bursting of the hose. the pump housing crack, well , cant explain how that happened.

My Benjamin pump is EXACTLY the same as the photo in the post above by threex4.... In the original photo posted of the exploded hose, I don't even see the collar where the air inlet filter is supposed to be....

I never noticed it until threex4 posted.... but it would appear somebody changed the way the pump operated as where your inlet filter is located is normally a high pressure outlet port for the hose.... Something strange here, for sure....

That pump is definetly different setup then mine. I aslo noticed yours is different then the one on the breakdown. http://www.sunopticsusa.com/handpump.html. If I had to guess there must be a couple of variations out there. My fathers pump looks just like mine. The only thing changed on mine was an added decicant filter.

The pump shown on the diagram on the Sun Optics site definitely is set up like the one that exploded.... The filter you added is indeed where the inlet is shown on their diagram.... Obviously there are two different models....

I was told that there are different models, mine was a early one and the one shown on the sunoptics is of a newer model. but I dont recall any having a brass QC on their hoses, even new.
So if you got the pump new , from Crosman and they sent it with a brass QC,I would contact them about it bursting. Now when you added the filter and rebuilt the pump did you maybe put the wrong hose back on??? Most C02 hoses are only rated for about 2000psi about the pressure you were puming from.

Fair at best, - the problem is dirt, which can (does) impact the "O" rings. - It needs another "clean out", ... and the gauge isn't working.

Never had the hose off just took the pump apart cleaned and installed new orings. The brass quick connect never failed. It was the hose that burst and the aluminum base cracked. The brass quick connects what it came with I've only had PCP rifles for a couple of months and have no idea if it being brass or steel makes a difference. The quick connect still works so even after the burst it wasn't damaged. I sent my pics to sunoptics they're shipping me anew pump. I won't be using petroleum base oil again.

Hey Josh, glad to see SunOptics stepped up and r sending you another pump. hope they asked you to ship that one back, it would be interesting to hear the WHY it did what it did.
Most pumps last longer than a couple of months and some last years. If you only had it a couple months, Crosman should have been contacted before any rebuild , they would have sent you a return invoice and a pump when they recieved yours.
If your new to PCP, take heed, dont pump more than 50 times over a 5 minute time frame, you'll only wear the pump out sooner than later.

Sounds like its time to hire an attorney. Happy it didn't turn out worse for you in regards for injuries. Still my fear is once the good ol media gets whiff of this one who knows what new regulation or ban the state you live in or federal government might want to start due to your misfortune. Then again regardless of what the vendor says or what the mfrs. says we all do things at our risk...ie: drive cars, blow dry our hair, operate our laptops or ipads, etc. Stuff will happen. "dang" if you do, "dang" if you don't.

Glad you're ok! The pump that came with my discovery (from gander mountain) also has the copper quick disconnect fitting. Weird.

Lesson learned ( no motor oil) wounds will heal and sunoptics is making good on it. No need for an attorney. Too many people jump on the suiing bandwagon and ruin stuff for others.

a very light coat of a silicone grease they sell. I have seen the Sun Optics recommendations on using ND oil and thgought that might bea BAD IDEA!!! Guess it was.

Thankfully you were not seriously hurt ....somebody is watchin out for you.

Sometimes that is what it takes to make company's REALLY listen, or all you might just get is a new hose, or maybe a 10% off coupon on your next purchase would work for you. I've been down this road before and you need to speak up, it's just the way things are now, your choice. Also SunOptics has reading this thread from the start, just trying to help you out.
