I argued with Duane the the high pressure caused the oil to ignite he said there had to be a spark. It really irritates me I go by there instruction and now Im out a pump. Im lucky I didnt lose a toe or something.

This may not be the exact same senareo but its worth reading. I just happened across it.

HPA tanks and oil don't mix. Let's say you go and fill your air tank and the fill nipple is a little sticky when you put the fill coupler on, so you put a little oil on it and fill your tank. Little do you know you just made yourself a diesel bomb. As you fill the tank the air pushes some of the oil into the high pressure chamber of your tank. As the pressure in your tank reaches 2100-2300psi the pressure will create enough heat to ignite the oil and this explosion pushes the pressure inside the tank to well over the limits of a steel or carbon fiber tank sending shrapnel everywhere, if you have a steal tank ,or the carbon fiber tank will split open and become a missle. DO NOT use oil on the high pressure side of your regulator or fill nipple.

What's with these vendors? Gamo reccomends that crappy pba pellet that ruined my gun, and then this bad advice that ruins a pump and causes injury. How does one get the low down? I'm shaking my head.

I "borrowed" your photos and posted a warning on a couple other AirGun Forums.... hope you don't mind.... You are very lucky.... and IMO, Sun Optics are giving VERY poor advice....

I found the instructions, for type of oil, I wonder if full synthetic was being used? Or if it would make any difference?

Sun Optics did say that Full Syn motor oil may be better and weight didn't make much of a difference. (This is the important sentence)

I called Sun Optics and he said P30 was size -007 That is an international sizing . The numbers in Lowe's and Home Depot on their o ring packages are their own numbers. Sun Optics is sending me some but he sent them last week and I have still have not recieved them. Since I have had the pump apart in my living room for 4 days I went looking for one. I found a -007 at O Rally auto parts behind the counter ,sold by the piece. The sales person didn't know the material makeup and it didn't say on the box. They were 36 cents each. The link is to a sizing chart and if you click on materials they say urethane is the best Wear/Abrasion but I don't know if that would be the best for the pump because I don't know enough about o rings and applications. Sun Optics did say that Full Syn motor oil may be better and weight didn't make much of a difference. I polished the inside of P29 with JB bore paste and Flitz and the outside of P14 since that is the only places an o ring is sliding on. I put pump back together and it is working fine so far. Instead of time I will keep track of the number of pellets before failure. The original was about 700 pellets before it failed. This run may be short because I'm using an o ring of unknown material. If you or anyone knows enough about material types then maybe we could get a better o ring for p30. The thread size on the inlet screen is 1/8 npt and since it is water/moisture that is causing the pumps to fail I'm looking for an inline filter that I could put in the inlet.

They at least owe you a new pump bro, the spark thing is them trying to cover their butts, don't back down and get an attorney

I had a thought, you may want to start your Mrod bleeding slowly and walk away until it is done. It may have vapors in it also. Wouldn't hurt to give the tube a good cleaning. Use a very thin coat of silicone grease to wipe the inside of the tube.

It wouldn't hurt to purge your MRod with CO2.... That would get rid of any oil residue....

Wow! That's about as scary as it gets! Glad you came out in one piece. Was that the hose that came with the pump or an aftermarket one? Seems a pretty stupid response from Sun Optics, I guess they have to go inside a Benjamin pump in order to light up a smoke! Can't imagine how many injuries they have just waiting to happen. Sure re-inforces the need for safety glasses, but never would have thought it was absolutely necessary while pumping!

I Opened the air chamber on my Mrod lastnight and cleaned it out. Used my fathers pump and it seems ok.

Glad to hear that you came through with no major injurys.
When I first heard that Sun Optics was recomending motor oil my thoughts were "NO Way" I have had my pump for three years and a couple of rebuilds using "Viton" orings ( it can take a little more heat) and plumber silicon grease for lube.

Wow....that's just scary. Thanks for giving everyone a heads up. From what I've read....everyone says petrolum based oils/lubes are bad for high pressure air. What's up with Sun Optics?

Hope you can get a new pump from them.

And yeah...I pump up my PCPs while barefoot or in sandals also.

I have to ask.... Is the hose the original supplied with the Benjamin pump?.... it looks black, not silver.... Also, I notice that the Foster fitting is brass and they generally aren't rated for HPA, only for CO2.... Did you by any chance replace the hose with a paintball hose?....

This has nothing to do with the pump housing cracking or the source of the explosion.... Just askin'....

Yes that is what they told me and my instructions from them specifally say to use non detergent 30 weight oil also.Ive got an o ring kit from them but it did not have all o rings required to do so i had to go get more from parts store.ive rebuilt it 2 or three times and have not got it to pump properly yet!.I have a compressor but wanted the pump for back up if my tank ever went dry.Think ill call them and see what to do next.Glad you werent hurt badly and hope they help you out.Could have been much more serious!
