OK rebuilt my benjamin hand pump with the repair kit from sun optics. Was pumping my mrod 25 up to almost to 3000 and boom. Ankles full of pieces of the briaded cable and now out of a pump. Motor oil I guess is not a good choice.

Deiseled as far as i can tell same way it would in a springer. Luckily my mrods ok or id be highly perturbed. I just called sunoptics and there sending me a new hose im in the process of emailing the pics noway am i using motor oil again.

DANG Josh!!! Glad your not hurt worse Bro., seems if it was motor oil it would of detonated in pump not out in the hose? But whatever I bet that was a BIG SHOCK!!!! Don't think I'll pump bare foot anymore after seeing that.

I think motor oil is flammable.

Were you barefoot pumping it up?

Oil and HP air definitely do not mix.
You're lucky it didn't hurt you in a more vulnerable area of the body.
Lesson learned.

Yes i was barefoot and motoroil is what sunoptics rep and rebuild instructions said. I wonder if chamber oil for a springer might be a better idea.

Bummer glad to see your all right, that could have been ugly, I would use some silicone grease on your pump, my Air Venturi G4 instructions say NEVER use petroleum base oils in the pump! I wonder if this is the out come they are speaking of. Keep your shoes on

I bet the oil interacted with the rubber hose and degraded it's ability to hold the pressure, causing it to burst. Glad to see you are okay. I would be very weary of pumping after that! Some oils and rubbers do not mix. Good luck and speedy recovery!

What a blessing that you didn't get hurt worse and thanks for sharing your experience, better for folks to be aware of the danger of hpa. I'd be a bit nervous to pump one up after that.. J

That's very scary. Like the others have said, glad you didn't get seriously injured. I think I remember reading posts in the past where motor oil was in fact recommended by SunOptics , but apparently the two don't mix. Glad you're ok.

I use divers silicone on all my PCP's. Great stuff and no detonation worries. Wonder how it would work on a pump?

Looking closer the pump is trashed the actual base is cracked. I'm now waiting on a call back from sunoptics.

It certainly looks like flash burns, along with shrapnel injuries.

Is that pump & cable capable of pumping to 3000 psi??? - Wasn't the pump kinda hot??? - Glad things weren't any worse.

3500 Psi pump I was refilling from 2400 made it to 2800 this was right after rebuild pump never had a chance to get hot

The main thing is that there were no real serious injuries! Thanks for posting this info as it is a lesson for all of us Dark Siders, as we are all using very high pressure air and it can be very dangerous. After using something almost every day it can and make you take things for granted and to be careless. This is a wake up call to all of us, be carefull!
Be sure to get all of the stainless braid out of your foot and watch for infection.
