I'm looking at a 705 in .25. After a lot of hemming and hawing, I think it's what I'll go with for my first PCP. Is the plus tune worth the cost? I'm looking at primarily varmint hunting, first squirrels on my property in CA, which will be anywhere from 5 to 25 yrds, but once we move to KY, I'm hoping to find at least 5-10 acres which will give me much more distance. Here in Cali I'm on half an acre, so regardless of the plus tune or not, I'll be running it on low power here.

Michael I've got the prototype of that gun in bolt action(I wish I had the lever action), I have all ports opened up to 3/8" but I haven't had a look at the new .25's and don't know if the valve on those has enough meat to open the exhaust port to 3/8" but Mike Melick has told me that he's drilled the exhaust port at an angle on them with good success.  With mine I'm able to get 10 shots at 60fpe which is plenty to kill even a coyote at a distance.  I have since turned it down to 50fpe shooting my cast 26 grain pellets for about 20 good shots.  My cast slugs is what I was shooting when I had it turned up to 60fpe.  Even if you could drilled straight through with a drill with a smaller size I'm sure that you could get 50fpe with one.

Michael I've got the 705 in .22 and the only thing that I shoot from that gun are slugs, I can get 30 excellent shots from that on a fill doing 40-45fpe which would be more than enough for varminting out to 50 yards for ground squirrels.  I've shot raccoons and ground hogs with mine with one shot kills easily.  It destroys a squirrels head with a good shot.  I've retrieved several of my cast BBT's with perfect mushrooms from large fox squirrels.

I'm like you I did a lot of reading before I bought my 705 in .22 from Mike at Flying Dragon.  After reading comments about Mikes work and standing behind it, I was much more secure with the knowledge that I was getting a new gun that an expert had already gone thru, tuned, and shot before I got it.

I just heard back from Mike- I decided to email him. He says the tune will add a few FPS but not do a whole lot for me with my needs, so I'm wondering about just foregoing the tune and being able to learn to tune later, myself, if the need arises.

So... that gives me an extra $50 in found airgun money... would it be worthwhile to put it towards another 705, or even a 702, in .22? I was thinking it would be good for around the house here in California for the short shots- I am on half an acre surrounded by other half acre parcels. Or, would the .25 turned down be fine?

I currently use co2 and springers in .177, and they don't have the punch to take out squirrels very well. My current most powerful gun is an RWS Diana 48 in .177. I took a shot on a squirrel with it a couple weeks ago, about 50ft away. Hit the squirrel in the shoulder area, it squeaked, jumped, and ran off. I've since seen him around. Last year I took a headshot on a squirrel in a trap, point blank, with a co2 .177- it went through, but the squirrel was alive. I think it was 3 more shots before it stopped breathing. I don't want to see that again- one shot, one kill. These are some strong little ground squirrels we have in the desert.

So... is it worth it to get both a .22 and a .25, or is it overkill? I don't have a lot of money to throw around, but I want the right tool for the job. Next step will be to invest in a big bore for larger game up to deer, once we move. I really like the idea of having a PCP gun for hunting, since PB ammo is so scarce.

You will need a scope.  A lot of people here like the Rex scopes that Mike carries.

.22 cal pellets are easier to find local than .25 cal.
Wayne52 will probably chime in, as he is a Great source for Sentry information.

I have a Hammers 4-12x40AO I bought for my RWS 48 I can swap over, or a selection of older Weaver and Bushnell glass from PBs I can use.

I would personally have Mike do the tune unless you have the proper tools to do it yourself. He opens up the ports with his tune giving the gun more power.

That Hammer scope would be perfect for the gun.

I have the 705 in .22.  I also had the 702 but sold it. I got spoiled by the side lever on the 705.

I have a small machine shop attached to my woodshop, which is my primary business, so other than specific tools like spring compressors, etc, I have the ability to work on the gun when I'm ready to tune it, just have to learn how.

How much difference does the power adjustment make on these? I was watching a video about the Seneca Sumatra that can go from 17 FPE to almost 100 FPE in .25 with the adjustment wheel. Does the Xisico offer such a wide range of adjustment?

Guys - I'm going to be ordering a .22 Sentry 705 Side Lever from Mike Melick tomorrow and am going to ask him to remove the Factory moderator as I want to use a more effective one. Those of you that have done this, is the barrel end threaded underneath the Factory moderator or is it just smooth, requiring a slip-on moderator held on by grub screws? Those who have removed the Factory moderator, what make/model of aftermarket moderator are you using? Pics would be appreciated if you have the time!

It's smooth David, if you want an aftermarket it can be one that fits over the barrel with set screws or if I was going to personally get one I'd get the end of the barrel threaded.  Rocker 1 has had experience with these guns and would probably set you up for either one that you wanted.  I was out a couple days ago with mine that's been modified and doing 40-45fpe with my cast BBT's, the gun is an absolute beast on small game.

When you had your barrel threaded, what pitch was it threaded for?

I asked Mike if he could thread the barrel before sending the rifle out to me and he said he doesn't offer that service. Am waiting for a reply back from him as to whether having someone like Rocker1 thread the barrel will void the warranty. If so, I guess I'll just go with a slip-on moderator.

Personally I've never had one of these barrels threaded however I know for sure that Rocker1 (David) can do it for sure.  I would send him a pm if I was you asking him about getting done what you want.

I ordered a 705 in .25 Friday before last. Mike shipped out promptly on Monday. Delivery was friday, but was delayed so it was delivered on monday. I get the package and think, "man... this is pretty light for a PCP!" I then open it and find... a Beeman R7. Mike sent me the wrong gun on accident!

So, I email and call, we exchange emails and he gets a 705 out to me same day, with a return label to send back the R7. Delivery was scheduled for today, so I'm FINALLY going to see my 705... and UPS delayed THIS shipment like the last one! I have to go a WHOLE WEEKEND before I get to see it. Don't they know I've survived the last year on Amazon? I just can't handle all this waiting. 😂😂😂

So... if anyone is shooting their Xisico this weekend, give a thought for poor little Sentry-less me and pull off a few rounds in solidarity.

Also, if anyone is looking for an R7, Mike has 'em. It's a good looking gun, very light and quite accurate too.

Good things come to those that have patience, you'll like the Sentry, well worth the wait, IMHO,
and one thing about a Sentry, after you get GOOD "O" rings in them they do work very well,
both of mine leaked, got the diagram, changed to good "O" rings,
and they have been holding air and shooting up a storm for the last several months,
in the "No Fly Zone", starlings make a GOOD SPLATT with COM hits........with the 25 cal. 
I am waiting on a 25 Cal Wadcutter NOE mold..................

I have a 22 and 25 Cal, they can be a heavy hitters, with the 25 cal leading the way,
just waiting for the last Yeller Dog to make a patrol check around the outside fence...................
there will be a 25 cal surprise waiting for it.

Thinking on a 17 cal for it's brothers..............
