The 4th test: low speed:



Same kind of rat-targets with a 1" square aim point.



1. So....it's still crappy with the 34gr. JSB's... "OK" with the 25.4gr. JSB's...and still shoots great with the 13.4 (either AA or JSB...it don't care).

2. Moving on to +40 yards would likely just make the "crappy" more crappy, and the "OK" into crappy.

3. Not the signs of instability that the Chief showed ("tails" on the paper holes).

4.. Finally got to a rifle tuned so that the really heavy (33.9gr.) pellets DID NOT earn more energy (although it was basically a tie).


Which brings me to the question.

Even if the super heavy pellets did shoot well at 450-455fps/ 15.5 foot pounds...why?..what possible advanatge would they have in a moderate power PCP?

Save them for trys in PCP's that can manage high enough speeds for  high (in .22 terms) energy.

33grain would make a nice sound hitting rats at 40 yards.

Impressed with the power of your M-10 in shooting the 25.4's at 928 fps in previous test. Would be interesting to see accuracy at 75-100 yds.  Any plans to do so? 

What have (or haven't, lol) you done to the M-10 to get to where you are?  I have read with interest some of the threads on the Snow Peak rifles and found them intriguing.

One of the old, single shot M10's (think there is a repeater also sometimes called the M10)..and actually had to tone it down a bit.  So I did reduce the size of the transfer port a little to calm it down with 25.4's.


Sooner or later, I'll try it out at longer range.  Not really how I use the few I keep at higher power....just me.  Normally I'll not shoot live critters more than 50 yards away, the powerful PCP's with heavy weight pellets aren't for me to shoot longer...they're for me to shoot bigger critters.

Guess they are available from overseas. Single shot not a problem as I will shoot mostly off the bench.
 
Did you add the Huma reg?  Tested the "Redesigned" 25.39"?  Supposed to be higher BC than the regulars, similar shape as the 33.95's.

The attraction for me is to shoot the high BC pellets at enough speed to take advantage of their ballistics.  Not many guns out there that will do that and NONE (that I know of) at this price point!  Have not found any accuracy testing beyond 50 yds.  Seems if they shoot sub/moa at 45, should shoot same at farther?

Not a fan of regulators for really high power/ shorter shot counts use...do use regulated rifles for other uses. (like where I need a whole lot of moderate power shots).

So the groups were shot with unregulated rifles...I just stayed in the center of the sweet spot.

Eventually I'll run out of the "old and unimproved" 25.4's and have to try the new ones....might be better...might be worse...won't know for awhile.

Thanks a looooot that you are trying to taste .22  Monster REDESIGNED 25gr. with  standard   hammer PCPs.
Some of them with   50+  FPE should be usable for  them . 


But I am afraid that for .22 JSB Beast 34gr.  we cane  today only use  special hammer less   Huben K1 gun.
Pleeeeeeeease Let me now  if there is another  PCP  gun which  is able to shot .22 /34gr pellets at 70+ FPE.

Darned if I know....usually will tone them down to more moderate levels, have not been one to dial rifles way up.

Understand, I'm not in a restrictive environment....if I need more power when hunting, usually look to a fire arm (even a .22Lr can deliver 100 foot pounds at 100 yards)...as for target shooting with an airgun at the energy you envision, I'd likely go with a .30.

Same here but I guess lots of folks don't have that available to them.  I guess that's why .177 is my primary interest and I generally don't shoot them beyond maybe 50 yards (and probably a lot less most of the time).  Too many other ways available to do that here in the sticks but it is interesting following the big bore/long range efforts.

Guess my outlook is part of it (which is  shaped by living in the U.S. and in a not too restrictive state).


Even if I lived out in the middle of nowhwere, nearest neighbor mile or more away, I'd still feel silly blasting 40-50yard tree squirrels/pest birds with a centerfire.  Not that it won't work, just that is seems I'm driving tacks with a sledge hammer.

And I also feel kind of silly shoot +100 yard critters with an airgun.  Not that it can't work, but it's like I'm driving rail road spikes with a tack hammer.

So pick your energy requirments, sound requirments, target's energy requirments, and the likely range....could be just right for an airgun...could be just right for a .308.
