So....Whatcha Eating?
« on: August 19, 2017, 09:46:38 PM »
After a busy day of chores and shooting, the wife fixed the family a really tasty dinner. A big old roast of swine. For desert, a peach and blueberry cobbler made from scratch.

Now to sit back and watch a little football with a cold brew.

This is the way Saturdays are made to be.

So, what are you eating?

Sister is visiting from Bay Minette, Al. for a few days (she shoots too). Betty Lou made ham n eggs w/biscuits for breakfast. Home mad PB cookies to snack. Stuffed shells for dinner and a big ole pot of chicken noodle w/dumplings and mashed taters for tomorrow. And of course, bud light throughout.

At this point in my life, my diet tends to be boring and repetitive (I like it, but most probably would not).
I usually cook a couple of times weekly, and make a dish that will feed me for several nights. I eat the same thing nightly until it's gone, then cook something else.
Currently, it's a chicken veggie soup with lots of veggies, a slightly tomato-y base, and some jalapenos to make it a little spicy. (oh and a little cumin)
I also mix a huge mixed greens salad once or twice a week by chopping up spring greens mix, romaine, green onions, broccoli slaw mix, and slivered almonds / dried cranberries. I keep it in a large plastic container in the fridge, and eat a couple of servings daily, with dressing, tomatoes and croutons. Once this past week, I made kung pao chicken, but I usually make a Japanese style / sukiyaki stir-fry, and have it over rice. Sometimes IO get really wild, and have THREE different items in one meal- LOL :D

I work Saturday afternoons into the night so it's usually some leftover from lunch that day or maybe the previous day.  Occasionally I will eat out for dinner.  Where and what depends on the area of the city that the work takes me.

Tonight was a place called Suni's pizza and burgers (first time there).  I had a Suni burger which was a bacon cheese burger with onions, tomato, lettuce, mayo and pickle with some fries on the side.  It was good but not great.  I would eat there again if I were in the area and hungry but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.  What I really wanted was a Greek chicken sandwich and a salad 🥗.  Maybe next week.

As I said earlier.. Sister is visiting for a few days so I might blow the lead dust off the bank card and take the girls out for breakfast this morning. There is a buffet joint over in Troy that does breakfast southern style. I happen to like catfish and eggs for breakfast. A side of cheesy potatoes and I'm good to go. Just down the road is Walmart and TSC. My sister and I inspire each other in the sport department and Betty Lou is weak and vulnerable with my sister around. To say the least I'll stock up on pellets.
Then I'll probably follow Kris' lead and do the liquid diet thing, hold the fang removal and add alcohol.

Evidently I'm not the eater this morning... I'm the eaten.
Grabbed up the Varmint and headed out to recon the parameter this morning while the girls were still checking for eye lid leaks. Sneakers, ankle socks and shorts were not my best option for hunting garb. You would think I took a sharpie and drew little targets all up and down my legs. Chiggers, mosquitos. fire ants and things I didn't even see made a meal out of me. A hot shower soothed the burning and itching very well. Unsuccessful hunt to say the least.

Mama stayed overnight to watch the grandkids, so I got up
at 5:30 and made a batch of homemade English Muffins. She got home at 7:30 and I made "Joe McMuffins" for breakfast for us.  Took a small boneless ham out of the freezer, and will make scalloped potatoes, steamed & buttered broccoli with tomato & cuke salad for dinner (lots of tomatoes and dukes in the garden) This will hold us for two days. I do most of the cooking since Mama isn't retiring until January, so I try to cook enough for two meals so I. Don't have to cook every day. Might make homemade Italian bread and sandwich thins this afternoon for the upcoming week's lunches as well.

Chunky honey-roasted peanut butter and slab-cut "no nitrites" Applewood smoked bacon on cinnamon raisin muffins and, because I'm a 21 year old trapped in a 48 year old body, a Spike energy drink and a Margarita.

Nobody ever accused me of always making the best life choices.

And I'm probably gonna have some Lidl Skyr yogurt with a chopped banana so I can pretend I ate something healthy.

Dang-it, Bill.  Natrapel.  This stuff is worth 5 times what they charge with how good it works.  And after my doxycycline regimen a couple years ago, maybe way more than 5 times.  When I use it, ticks stay the F away.

Wife and kids are at the waterpark, so I am left to defend for myself with lunch. Out running errands and need to get home to mow the lawn. Heard commercial for Taco Bell's new burrito: beef, cheese and potatoes........and it was only a dollar. I typically don't eat Taco Bell, but for only $1,  I'll give it a shot. It was actually pretty good and filling. The burritos were much bigger than I thought they were going to be. Looks like I'll be visiting TB again for this cheap eats.

Now that you mention it, I have seen a fair buncha deer in the woods behind the house.  The Pom usually scares them away.

As it is, since I won't be driving until tomorrow morning, I may as well have another margarita.

Side Note: there's a non-carbonated energy drink called Xtreme Shock that gives a serious niacin flush.  Your whole body has a heated "pins and needles" feel, especially focused on your hands and face.  I love that sensation, but as I mentioned before, nobody ever accused me of making great life choices.
