Anyone else have success with Trail np Pistol?

An update to my scope, sight and lazer accuracy problems so I've been havingsome issues with all my sights but also in the back of my mind wondering if it was the pistol itself causing me grief and not the sights at all. I still had the rear sight so I reinstalled it yesterday and setup a 6"orange dot with a 1" neon dot at center then picked out the rws hobbys and rws super H point pellets  to try at 10yds. Resting over a sandbag and keeping the rear grip from resting on anything I carefully fired off 5 7.ogr hobbys well a 1"group appeared 6"over my aim point WOW a ray of hope  now for the rws H points I lowered the sight 6 clicks and fired 8 into a -3/4" hole  so this pistol is shooting just fine with open sights. What a RELIEF. Nowif I can find a reliable scope or lazer sight that can hold up to a springer pistol.

I've been using a CenterPoint Tactical red / green dot on mine. No problems, so far.

I had the CP red green dot sight and the entire reostat and battery compartment broke off inside from vibration I think

On the big tactical?  What was it mounted on, when it broke?

I used the UTG dovetail to weaver 1" squeeze adapters although with the radius on top of the pistol the adapter is not sitting flat so a dove tail scope ring mounted red dot would be the best approach or a DT to WVR rail short enough to fit on the NP Pistol. I did get a UTG droop adapter for my rifle but it is too long to fit on the NP Pistol I could cut it down to fit but was hopeing to avoid that.

Don't know if you've been following in the "Crosman-Benjamin Air Gun Gate", but starting with Post #33 , I've included comments and pics of my Trail NP .177 findings and have recently done comparisons to the new Umarex Trevox. Both are nice and accurate pellet pistols for the $$$, that is if you get a good unit. I've done minor TLC work and so far, am happy with the accuracy and performance results!

I hope they've made some major changes to the Trail NP pistol since I had one. I think I threw mine at the target at least 20 times without hitting it. I finally sent it back to AD for credit on a Nitro Venom Dusk.

I almost bought a Browning springer pistol at a pawn shop once. Not sure who it was made by. It was pretty sleak and attractive looking...but then I remembered I already had a 1377😂

...all contact surfaces were stoned smooth, sear engagement shortened along with a few other tweeks brought the 1st stage to a light 1/4" of travel,  a slight wall before a 1.5 #clean break...

Patrick,

My trigger work (lubricating contact points and installing longer 8mm M3 screw) got my Trail NP Pistol trigger sear break down to a consistently clean 5.25#, but would like to get it down to around 1.5# or so. 

I would like to dis-assemble it and polish the contact points. Do you (or anyone else), have suggestions \ directions to assist me in successfully performing this task?

Yes I can give you some insight BUT FIRST remember this: you will be a victim or beneficiary  of your OWN handiwork.  Polishing alone will not get the #'s down enough. Remove the stock, turn action upside down and study the 4 main parts and how they innerface with each other so reassembling will be easier, do not try to cock the pistol off the stock. The first and second sear contact points / overlap determin how safe or unsafe  the gun is so tread lightly here you will need to engage #1&#2 sear to do this use a small flat screww driver from the back to cam 2nd sear down (this locks piston in cocked position) look at the overlap of these 2 parts that is one place to start. I use a very  hard arkansa stone to smooth all contact points I would not use a rotory stone ie. dremel as it is too agressive this is not a short easy proccess so take your time.

Onemore big help to reassembly  is to make a dummy pin for installing #1 sear. This pin is only long enough to fit between trigger housing, put 1st sear and spring together and add dummy pin then slide into housing. I think I used a 6d vc nail for this+-5/16" long.

Many Thanks and appreciation to Patrick (dasbear) for his original post #1 information concerning his re-work of the Trail NP pistol, and follow up advice in post #33 & #34!! 

With the storms and two vacation trips out of the way, decided to tackle the task of tuning my Benjamin Trail NP .177 pistol. Pat's assistance and tips were invaluable to achieving this success! [NOTE: This task was not easy or quick and I would only recommend for very mechanically inclined persons who don't care about the warranty, willing to put in a day of steady tedious micro work and able to accept failure or success and responsibility that goes along with it]!!

Actions:
1. Lightly Compressed all three sear springs to reduce tensions and minimize expansion resistance while maintaining performances. These steps were done a little at a time to insure sears\trigger functions worked as designed (Important-done while installed in place). If overall trigger pull is reduced to your satisfaction, skip step#2 and go right to #3!
2. For the Brave and Bold - Disassembled & Lightly Polished "sear contact points" (Hammer Sear, Intermediate #2 Sear, Trigger #3 Sear) with 600, then 1500 grit black oxide wet sandpaper (in dry state). Basically, just removed dark gray painted finishes and achieved mirror smooth steel contact surfaces. Warning-reassembly takes some time...Heed Patrick's tip in post #34 ref. Sear #1 (hammer sear) re-install!! Suggestion-take pics of disassembly to assist reassembly success!
3. Lightly Lubed sear polish points, sear pins and trigger travel screw tip (if not disassembled, can be done installed in place).
4. Replaced my installed 3Mx8mm trigger pre-travel screw with a polished tip 3Mx9.5mm screw. This took the .625" pre-travel down to .3125" (50% reduction). NOTICE: In doing this, discovered Trigger Sear #3 had an extended top shelf lip, that with an installed Longer than OEM screw of 7mm, impeded\stopped the Long Lever cocking bar from racking back the Nitro Piston (couldn't cock assembled unit). MY solution to maintain a desirable short pre-travel was to modify Sear #3 (cut off ext. top shelf lip..."note-drawing of Sear #3 does not display this lip extension"). I consider this a major mod that you may not want to perform, as it appears a design to prevent the trigger from operating with an open breach (I Always set the trigger manual safety switch ON before opening the breach to cock and load-good habit). Just accept a little longer pre-travel with the OEM 7mm screw, or a polished 8mm length replacement screw (that reduces some pre-travel, but does impede ease-of cocking actions mentioned above). 

Achieved:
1. Repeatable single stage Crisp Pull\Surprised Sear Break of 1#7 oz (76% improvement), with 5\16" smooth pre-travel (70% improvement)!! When new, had a 7.1# trigger pull and 1" pre-travel!
2. Accuracy (improvement of 56%) with .219" C to C POI with Red Dot Reflex Scope, hitting 1\4" bulls eyes every shot with RWS Hobby 7.0g WC's @ 560fps, shooting from home made rest at 10yds! 
3. Safety, trigger un-locked integrity and overall performances still work perfectly!
4. Much smoother cocking and lock-up...better than when new (see actions #4 details above).


As when new, I had a good performing and accurate pellet pistol, but was willing to take it the next step (my choice, my responsibility). I'm a tinkerer...have performed successful trigger mods on other Air pistols\rifles, RF pistols\rifles and CF rifles. IMHO, the Benji Trail NP hits hard, is easy to cock (w\o aid) and now more accurate and fun to shoot and has a lot of potential as an all-around .177 pistol.  I appreciate the help and assistance offered to me and hopefully, pass that on to others. However, if you are not that experienced or confident performing mods of this type, you can solicit tuner services from GTA members mentioned in the Air Gun Gate "Tuners" Section. Or, just enjoy the well built and accurate Benjamin Trail NP as is!!

     I have to agree Ted with a little work on them they are good pistolas. I did a bit of work on mine, not as much as yours, and it shoots harder and groups a bit better with the trigger redone. As far as the sight running out of adjustment, any one that has had an old B3 knows that where you move the rear sight to determines the elevation start point. I moved mine back and forth till I found a start point that was half of the elevation on the rear sight and it worked great then.
    I don't shoot targets so I don't get frustrated when an inexpensive pistol doesn't shoot like a mega bucks target pistol. But for what it is it is good for me and shoots just about everything I have put in it as good as I expected it to shoot.

May take a little TLC, but the trail NP definitely has potential.

FWIW, the Trigger Work I performed has broken in nicely with consistent pulls of 1.25#. Yesterday, able to achieve a 5-shot same hole grouping on a 1\2" bulls eye @ 10yds....my first!

Now, to do that off a rest every time, or with an open hand-hold stance every now and then, has become a new challenge. As many come to know...gun can do it, but can I (practice-practice-practice)?!
