So I read all the early reports about poor quality with these pistols but at the same time I was very intriqued by the power and velocity that I recently bought one to play with. Now my main shooting interests have been with TC Encore and Contender wildcat cartridge pistols so I wasn't intimidated by the posibility of reworking the gun to get accuracy although I was quite horrified by the trigger I knew there was no way the pistol could survive without serious rework so all contact surfaces were stoned smooth, sear engagement shortened along with a few other tweeks brought the 1st stage to a light 1/4" of travel, a slight wall before a 1.5 #clean break. The barrel detent spring got lengthened and regreased I also added a CP 1x30x3" dot sight To complete the mods. I find the pistol quite comfortable to shoot and cock without using the assist handle though I leave it on for now. I havetried so many pellets that i wont list them but did notice through out breakin that several looked promising however its down to 3 for now which are shooting 1/2"-3/4" at 10yds 1st. RWS 7.0grHobby 2nd.H&N Crow magnum and a distant 3rd is Crosman 7.9gr hp.If anyone else is shooting the trail pistol please post what you havedone to it and what pellets you like.

I have one and are not real impressed with it. I can hit coke cans off a rest at 40 yds with it, but it doesn't group well. I think it lacks power for hunting. I winged a bird with it at 20 yds, and it just hopped away.

I have done lots of work to mine and its still a peace of work. it just sits on a shelf now. Glad your getting more out of yours. Happy Shooting

Had to go with a heavier detent spring ( shouldn't be able to close it between thumb and forefinger) it had poor lockup.
After closing it you could actually shift the barrel about .010. Used different washers on the pivot bolt, and tightened it better.
Wouldn't pass the tissue test,so shimmed the breech seal.
Rear sight ran out of adjustment.... cut lite pipe off of front sight and filed it down. Now rear sight works fine,
Gamo Tomahawks fit tight and work well in this one.

I will be checking the seal and barrel washers again soon and order some tomahawks to try. Right now Im looking for a 2-7ao w mil dot as the 1x30 dot sight is beginning to fall apart any reccomendations on a pistol scope. Oh and I will pickup some tomahawks to try out. I'm thinking it would make a good ratting rig when completed.

Mine likes the H&N coated wad cutters., as well as the Crosman 10.5's.
Sounds like you did a little reworking of the secondary sear

. Had to do that to mine, as well.

Yes did sear rework, I also tried silent cats 10.5gr and crosman ultra mag 10.5gr I get mixed groups with both. I may check into the plated wad cutters you mentioned also getting some HN ftt to try out. Several folks on forums have entertained the thought of a stock for this pistol as a fun mod I will add to this info if I take the project on.

Patrick, does your anti-beartrap feature, and safety still work, after tinkering with the sear? I got lucky when I did mine. Everything still works.

I recently purchased a refurb from Walmart and returned it. I could not open the barrel without a rather sharp hit with my fist on the top of the cocking asset piece. No way I would have been able to open it to cock and load without the use of the assist piece, so it went back. I did try sighting it in, but it shot all over the place. You'd think a refurb would not need as much of a break in period, but after about 30 pellets, I felt a bruise forming on the ball of my hand, so I quit! I'm waiting to hear some reviews on the new Umarex Trevox before I attempt another break barrel pistol!

Boy I don,t want to rain on anyone,s parade but I use to have one. Lock up problems,put in New barrel pivot bushings, polished trigger parts, checked piston seal, put on a red dot sight,swore a little bit, shot it some more, swore a bit more, tried different pellets, swore a lot more, threw it in the trash. One of my best air gun days. Mike

Well, thank goodness for Walmart's no hassle return policy, I just brought it back and got a full refund, no questions asked. Other than the ladies at the Customer Service counter freaking out because I had a GUN, all went smooth!

My safety does work but at times when I cock it it does not want to catch, did it a few times today like the sear is hanging up so probably a good time to tear it down again to have a look. On subject of pellets I did try tomahawks and they will group at 10yds but not consistently the rws hobbys are the absolute benchmark at 3/8in 10yd groups consistently if I get a flier I pull 2 patchs with pell oil down the bore and all is well with rws however not all pellets like a clean bore so send 5 to 10 down range before exspecting much. Ihad to returm my CP red dot as the reostat battery knob broke from recoil after about 1500 rds and the gamo 16.00 lazer is acting up now I also took a risk and mounted 2 different Burris 2x7x32 handgun scopes and neither lasted 10 to 15 rds. I really do love this pistol but I need to find a reliable scope or lazer sight before doing much more. I plan on ordering some rws H points, hn ftt, to try out soon. Im sure the 7gr hobbys will be fine for rats but would like something a bit more destructive for rabbits <15yds. I do have a pic of my custom pack rifle stock so hope it shows up here at the bottom.

I bought a refurb from AGD about two years ago. I don't shoot it much but I haven't had any problems with mine. I did pull it apart and did a lube job with some moly paste. Polished the trigger a little while I had it apart. Piston seal was fine on it. I have a centerpoint dot sight mounted on it and can hit a 2" spinner I have set at 25 yards fairly consistantly with it. I see Crosman has a new NP pistol on thier website called the Trail NP Mark II.

I was at cabelas bargain cave today and saw a truglo Triton 33mm dot sight with a cantilever mount they wanted $64.00 for it w/o box or paper work retails for 100.00 I got the mgr to lower it 20% more so it came home with me. The sight is pretty cool looks well built BUT not enough for a springer I think it lasted 50 rnds :^( oh well it can go on my 357max Contender so I'm still looking for a dream scope it would be a
2-7x32 AO mildot anyone know if it exists for a springer pistol and who makes it?

This will get you started for the scope you are looking for. As for the pistol, I haven't have much success with mine, it has a multitude of problems that are not worth the effort to address when I have other pistols that hit their mark. Good luck.

After brass barrel bushings polished all trigger parts re lubed piston bed linnered the stock still shot like s!!!. Took it over to my blacksmith shop placed it on my anvil and beat it with my 3lb cross pin hammer. It was the best fun I ever had with it. Mike
