Is my Maximus Defective?

There is just the stock screw and you can wiggle the action out of the stock, but understand and you are certainly entitled to a replacement or refund.

It appears the stock is in the way of the rear air tube cap coming off? At least it looks that way. I think I am just going to call crosman Monday and see about sending it back. Not impressed with the quality of metal parts, kinda rough, lots of little bare spots. Almost makes me think it was a return once already.

Yes, you need to remove the action from the stock.

Might be better to just send it back..

 Defiantly if in doubt about working on an air gun (esp PCP), let the pro's do it.

Not so much a concern about taking it apart, more about maybe not being able to correct it and then trying to send it back with signs of taking it apart. I have a crosman shockwave that I just did a charlie da tuna trigger swap in so not uncomfortable doing a teardown.

Two negatives to sending it back:
One- crosman is sold out now
Two- I have a brand new pump sitting here!

I will probably give in and try taking it apart this weekend.

Whatever you do, don't strip out or snap off the tiny breech screw. I made that mistake recently. Definitely clap the breech down first and still be careful. Other than that, it was simple enough for even me to do.

Update:
So I got up this morning and decided to take it apart. Everything came apart very easily. Most screws were barely tight. The breech screw came out easily. The transfer port looked ok. I wiped everything down and reassembled. Used a clamp as suggested to hold the breech tight. Reinstalled the breech screw. Everything seems to be together and there is no more being able to move the front of the breech up and down!
Have to put the scope back on and see what she does now! Fingers crossed.

That should do it.  They probably didn't have that breech screw properly tightened. It should shoot much better now.  It's amazing how just disassembling and reassembling with proper technique can improve things.

Ill be doing a tear down, trigger job and ldc install before the first pellet goes thru the bore.

I want to do some work on the trigger at some point. Pretty happy with the way it is shooting now, so I 'll (try ) to leave it as is for a bit. Wish I was a little steadier though!
So, it appears the the small breech screw was not tightened down. Couldn't tell if the little transport tube was causing it but most likely was not in quite right.

Wow, this gun is accurate! I can put a pellet pretty much anywhere I want!! The picture attached is a soup can with a target stuck to it. The can was on a small tree, maybe 1/2 inch diameter. I can shoot the little tree trunk in half at 20yds. Awesome! Any bad shots now are on me.
