Tough little compressor😳 I plan on whenever I get the rebuild parts from AliExpress to take apart the topend. I'll post pictures on the rebuild.

Bill,

IIRC, your compressor hit about 65c filling up a 80cf tank. That's about 10c hotter than I allow my compressor to get. Heat=accelerated ware.

Now, I don't know for certain what temps are safe to run at...65c might be perfectly fine for your compressor. For my Yong heng, I set my max at 55c to be conservative. I think the manufacture, recommends 60c-70c as the max. Of course, they don't care how fast it wares out or how often its needs a rebuild....

I was using a 5gal bucket with 4gal of water and a one gallon frozen jug dropped in. Yep it stayed cool. What I'm trying to do is get away from using a bucket. The cold, 2.5gal container is getting me close to what I want, pull it out of the fridge, drop in the pump and go. I think the radiator will get me the get me longer run time and still be quicker to set up/take down than the bucket when I need that extra run time.

I should have taken pictures... I always seem to think of this AFTER I'm done!

Yep, have an IR temp gun and several thermistors I can use to monitor temps.

You are correct John... that was before my current setup... as I should have mentioned.. At that time I only had 3 gal. of water in the bucket and I weighted the return hose because it was spiraled and that weight sunk it to the bottom of my bucket. The current setup is a world of difference.

Don't forget, You can add food coloring to your water, Sooo you can tell that your water is circulating thru the clear hose's as well while running.

I use a little clip to hold my return line and keep it just above the water line so I can see flow at a glance. My water wetter is green, this helps some too

Didn't think about the food coloring... I'll have to do that. Someone said they used an inline flow meter.

I have since removed the fan as it impedes flow vs aid in it.

Bizill,

I have my fan pushing air from the left side of the compressor, across the first stage head. This way, it doesn't fight the motor fan, just moves the air its pushing out, away from the first stage head quicker as well as blowing more cool air across the head. If you wanted to locate the fan where it is, mount it pulling air vs pushing it. All though, the zip ties will either melt or at the very least, be short lived and break as those lines get HOT.

I was just thinking about those pre-cooled water tanks.. If you forget to turn on the water pump and
the compressor temperature really shot upwards, would shooting in some 33 deg F water be good for the metal?

If the metal were hot enough for the 33 degree water to have an effect on it, other than cooling it... the compressor was ruined long before the water had a chance to do any harm.

Maybe it's because I was use to operating equipment. I simply check things before I flip the compressor switch to run. Aux fan running, check, water flowing, check, all hose connections made, check, high side and low side bleeds open, check. start the compressor, good air flow out of the bleeds, check, close the low bleed, then high, watch pressure build and keep an eye on things.

Wow, that's way too much checking for an old guy.. (like me)..

I just plug in the pump, make sure it's in it's tank.. Bleeders closed, check.. Not too complicated or, KISS..

Well, I'm not sure if 49 qualifies me for old guy status....

It only takes me a few seconds to do the checks. To me, this is KISS.

I work with some VERY dangerous chemicals on a daily basis, checks and procedure keep me alive and looking marvelous

49 is still young John.. Problems start in about 20 more years..

However, you might feel the urge to buy yourself a bright red sports car for your next birthday..

I retired as soon as I could. Working on antennas up high on towers and lasers in the lab, is just to risky for my taste.

After so many years of running/working on machinery, it's just second nature.

I did leave out one thing, checking the oil level. I do this as I'm getting the cooling water set up...
