I'm thinking of buying a maurader pistol .22

I own a hard customized airmagnum 850 pcp converted .177 and i am happy with it,but i would like to buy a new platform to play with.
I like the maurader pistol in .22 and i am thinking to use it as compact carbine for close quarter pest fight.
I would like to test some mods like ssg and some customizing.
Your opinions about this product?

IMO the prod is the 1377/2240 of the pcp world.  Lots of ways to modify, and I have done my fair share.   I suspect, given your location, that might minimize available sources, and increased shipping costs.  It certainly can support yard pest elimination. 

As far as a SSG, you might be better off, with a BSB o-ring buffer.  I was not able to get a SSG to outperform the BSB at >=15fpe, shot count and Es wise.

One dealer here has some maurader in stock at reasonable price,i can buy some parts from england without problems,but i am able to machining some part myself if needed,i have access to a lathe and a milling machine  .

My  Prod is only my second PCP gun.  I purchased a "Fairway Friend" bundle direct off the Crossman website.  I like using it as a carbine with the included shoulder stock option and a 4-12x40mm scope.  Mine shoots CPHP's 14.3 and JSB 15.9 pellets well with a slight better to the JSB's and the scope is overkill but it's what I had.  I don't have a chronograph yet and am just running the stock tune at this point.  I set it up for zero at 30 yards and get 5-6 mags (40-48 shots) easily to plink with in my back yard gallery. 

Things I really like:

It is lightweight and well balanced setup as a carbine.
I hand pump and it's easy/quick to fill. 
It's accurate and I get a good consistent shot count before a significant POI shift. 

There is nothing significant about it that I don't like and I kind of wish that I had just bought this as my first PCP as I find myself shooting it most of the time anyway.

I've been meaning to ask you, what grip is that on your p-rod and how much work was it to fit?

I know from my 2240 that my fat hands aren't a great or comfortable fit with the OEM Crosman pistol grips.

Super easy to change out the frame, just the two bolts. Bolts right on (no modding needed there).
The grip itself is a Magpul moe v1 (rubberized not the hard plastic moe).

Out of {7} PCPs I shoot my prod the most.  Its stock for now.  It shoots Predator Polymags best. and defends my bird feeder every day.

What type of shot count are you guys getting with the Prod? I am looking at getting a small compact carbine for truck use or shooting in tight areas. I was thinking of the BSA Ultra but you could almost get 3 Prods for the cost of one Ultra.

Do it, buy a Prod! You'll love it. I really like all of mine. Two Prods and a 1720P.
One Prod was converted to a 25 cal mini rod, the other is a bad ^&* high power Prod that can shot 36fpe easily and be de-tuned to shot lower power all day long. My 1720P is still stock and looking to be modded in the near future. They are great in the carbines, lite weight & killing machines.

What type of shot count are you guys getting with the Prod?

With minor mods: 0.110TP, spring, and BSB oring, 24@16fpe to 16@20fpe w/14.66 FTT in 5.53 head size.  Can get a little more, but count drops to one mag.  Only so much a 12" barrel and 66cc can do.   Some of the more current reports indicate that they might not be as pellet picky as they once were.   In the past, one of the FTTs from 5.53 to 5.55 head size would do the trick. 

I have fitted a wrap around hand guard on one for a "truck" gun.  Well, really a sxs gun, that goes in an overhead rack.

For my pourpose i think to keep it around 15FPE,someone shoot JSB pellets with it?are they accurate in this barrell?
My .177 rifle loves JSB,if they works in the prod too i can buy them togheter and get a better price.

My first photo with the Prod and squirrel was shot at 65 yards, I have taken squirrel out to 70 yards with that set up shooting at 28-30fpe.

As for shot count with the Prod, my two Prods get about 450 total useable fpe out of 3000fill pressure.  The valves have been modded and have barrel/transfer port/ angled exhaust port to 0.160 & .180 dia.  I use the total fpe and divide by fpe desired to get shot count and it should be pretty close.
25 cal mini rod, 25.4 gr JSB- 16 shots at 28-30 fpe
22 cal Prod, JG FH barrel, 18gr JSB - 12-14 shots at 32fpe
22 cal Prod, 12 barrel, 25.4 JSB - 5 shots at 40 fpe

Can be a "money pit"...which is OK, as it's a hobby and we do things just for the enjoyment.


My thoughts on P-Rods:
1. Make very nice little carbines. 
2. Make gigantic/unhandy pistols.
3. Small air volume (65cc's) so the more power = the less shot count.  Have to decide for yourself what the balance is going to be.
4. Easily adjusted for spring tension/stroke...can get lost in the variables unless you keep written records of what you fiddled with.
5. If you've the urge to dress them up, do it after getting them running right.


15 foot pounds would be close to the factory speeds...just that after it's broken in and adjusted, are likely to get a bit better shot count.  Depending on your velocity variation limits, think it terms of 24-26 shots inside of 4% WITHOUT anything other than what the P-Rod came with.

Works for me...although I tend to try for shot counts in numbers even to mags. (so multiples of 8, either 16 shots/ 24 shots / 32 shots).  Being simple-minded, the best combination has been 3 mags worth (one mounted/two in the stock-sock).  Run out of mags, fill it back up.

(seems odd, but out in the woods, find that hunting OUT from the Jeep 2-mags worth, then walking back to the Jeep with 1 mag worth of pellets, works out fine.  fill it up, pick a new direction to walk, turn around to go back after the 2nd mag....repeat as needed.)
