ATL Area GTAers
« on: March 25, 2016, 01:00:09 PM »
A few of us have met a couple of times to shoot at the location Blackdiesel uses per his invitation. He has spots set up for 25, 50 and 83 yards. Parking is limited but that depends on the area; it is, unfortunately, used at times as an illegal dumping site and that consumes parking space. We get a chance to try out other guns and share info. Often times someone, usually me, needs help w/a gun and there's plenty of hands and minds to try and solve issues.

We also send PMs about new gun purchases, next meetup time, etc and the PMs were getting out of hand, so now we're posting here! Maybe you'd like to join us some time? We've yet to schedule our next meetup. I'm sure that will be one of our first topics of discussion.

Yes, I am ready for a next meeting after Easter so I can try out all my new guns. Hopefully by then I will get my ATN scope with built in video in, then we can video the spiraling from Glenn's new Hatsan Gladius.  :o

I, technically, have the money for the Gladius but the only places I could buy it w/the discounts are out of stock. The only places that have in stock don't have discounts that put in my price range, so....  I have convinced myself to get a .25 long though.

I'm actually looking forward to the next shoot as I've yet to met anyone. Plus I might need some help and ideas with this .257 I just bought. Hopefully I'll have some pills in the mail today along with my fitting to fill the tank since its the old style without a male quick connect on the tank. I know that gun is probably going to need work/tuning, but it'll be a fun/frustrating  process as always. I've yet to shoot my carnivore that I recently bought from a member on here. But he said he had it shooting 910's with the 44gr jsb. So I bought 2 cans of them, 2 cans of 50gr and 2 cans of 30 Cal polymags to see that kind of groups I could get at 50 and 75 yards with all pellets. I know what my disco can do at 40 yards, on ragged hole for 20 shoots per fill. I'd also like to see other members guns to get a idea for my next toy to get. I have my pest gun for 40 and under, I have a 50 to 75 yard gun hopefully in the carnivore, and I'm hoping the .257 will be my 100 plus yard gun. But, I still wanting a big bore rifle to pittle with. I know black diesel isn't fond of the air force frame, but I'd like to see what the 308 does when it comes out later this year. Hopefully they don't use a 34" barrel like the 45. But time will tell.

Tony, we kind of have 2 camps. Me and JC are Mrods and Norman , Donny and possibly Glenn are Hatsans. So you are going to get mix opinions.  ;D. But what gun did you get that is in .257 caliber? I would think you have a hard time finding those pellets reasonably priced for plinking.

Where do you all shoot? The place I go now in S.C. is 130-140 mile from here. I'm willing to drive further. I'd love to shoot with you, guys.

I bought a condor that had been converted over to .257. It's a work in progress right now. I'm going to evently get into casting my on pills for it so the cost wouldbt be that high. Rj porter is probably the cheapest guy I've found at .22 cents a round. But if I cast my own, well after molds and the hot pot to melt the lead down and keep it to temp while casting, I'll then only be in for the cost of lead and my time. Basically I'm going to shoot hogs with this was the plan going with this caliber. 65 to 80 grains at around 1000 fps shoulf be good for braining then at 50 yards are closer. I've shot the mrod, but the carnivore was my first ever hatsan. I love the European guns, but just can't see spending $2 or 3k on just a gun that's regulated and gets awesome shot count. But I'm also just really getting into this hobby and in the past 5 months I've bought 3 rifles so far. And it seems I'm on the northern part of the state from most of y'all. I think I can get to Conyers in about a hour and a half coming down thru winder and then Loganville and walnut grove to 138.

I like all the guns, except the .22 synrod that I had a bad experience with, lol!  I just happen to have a Hatsan, but I am pretty happy with it after all the tinkering I've done.  If I had the cash, I can think of a lot of guns I'd have.  Sumatras like Norman's, Trinh's Cricket is pretty sweet too.  Oh and that Texan is a beast...  I don't hate, but I do envy :D  I've always been a fire arms guy, and I'm still relatively new to the air guns, but I've learned a ton from everyone.

Well, finally got to shoot the .257 today thru the chonry. I only had 2500 psi in my scuba tank, but did get 3 shots off just to get a idea of fps. 794, 790, 778 for a 70gr pellet in a 24" barrel. I guess I'm going to need a bigger valve and 250 bar cylinder for it.

About a month ago we had planned to shoot today but then Blackdiesel realized he'd be out of town so we canceled. Good thing. It was very wet all day and I ended up having a family party to attend so I couldn't have gone anyway. And btw, I don't consider myself an ATLer living 100+ miles to the Southwest. But it's always been worth the drive to hang out with these guys.

Yeah Norm, they're bullets for sure. RJ Porter 70 gr hp. From talking to Doug, I'm going to have to change out the valve and higher psi tank. Pcp tunes has a 250 bar cylinder and a valve, hammer and spring. But it's going to be a work in progress. I know it's extremely loud and not back yard friendly at all.

Hey guys,

I live in Atlanta and very new to this.  In fact, I haven't bought a gun yet.  My biggest question mark is investing in an air tank.  I can get a 4,500 psi 90 cubic inches tank, but wont get too many fills.  Then to upgrade to a larger tank, it takes a bite out of my budget.  I am thinking of selling one of my high-end airsoft guns to get a bigger budget.  Because once I get into this, I know I will only want more guns.  I really like the idea of a bullpup and almost bought the gladius when it first came out.  Also looking at the Brocock Compatto (semi-bullpup). I know Norman will push me to a Sumatra.  Have also thought of getting a Jkhan Krosa.  Anyway, I would like to meet you guys and learn for you.

That 90 ci will be a good tank for say taking out hunting to top your guns off. But say, a 100 cubic ft 4500 psi tank will set you back about $700 for a omega. I'm just getting into it myself. I bought a scuba tank from a friend that only holds 3000 psi, but my plans was just for my disco that only takes 2200 psi fill pressure. Now I own a bt65 carnivore and a condor and they both have a fill pressure of 3000 psi. So, ive been pricing c.f. tanks. This is getting to be a expensive hobby, but when you start getting into bigger bore rifles, it gets expensive rather quick.

I wouldn't push you to get one but if you asked which gun is the most bang for the bucks I would vote for it.  You have to choose which gun will work for what you will use it for.  There are so many choices out there so you can find one to fit your needs.  That's why I said you should come out and shoot with us, it would be a great chance to try different guns.  There's a big variety with all the calibers and absolutely no bad attitudes.  All the guys will let you shoot their guns with no problems.
