The D34 is a great gun to learn how to tune on. Vortek PG2 makes a very nice kit. make a spring compressor and other than that you don't need that many tools. after I tuned my 34 I tune everything now. And both my 34s are crazy accurate. I find tuning to be half the fun of shooting. The info is here and great people to help. Welcome to the GTA Wayne

In short, the GTA site is made up of "gates". Each gate focuses on a certain sect of airgunning. American made guns, Chinese made guns Turkish guns etc. Go to the European gate, in there, you will have subsets of groups, or gates. Choose German gate. Here you will find great nformation on German made air rifles, including tune info. That being said, you would be hard pressed to find a better group of people, in any forum, to help you with what you wish to know. Ask away and someone will gladly point you in the direction you wish to go.
The two tune kits you will likely look at will be:
Air rifle headquarters. Jim Maccari owner. An icon in air gun research and rebuild materials.
Vortek products inc. also a pioneer in air gun tune equipment.
You can't go Wong with either company, but that doesn't stop people here from having their favorites.
Search and enjoy. Ask anything you want. Welcome to GTA.

Yes. They come in all sizes and flavors. There are many examples pictured throughout the forum.
BTW, Air Rifle HQ also has tuning kits. Good luck.

I think you get higher velocity with the O-ring but it doesn't last as long as the "normal" piston seal.
I could be wrong.
I have the O-ring version.

BenjiHunter is wright, you do get higher velocity and The o-ring seal does not last as long. My D34 22cal with a PG2 HO kit and a parachute seal was getting an Av. 650.4 FPS, but with the O-ring seal its getting an Av. 717.0 FPS, shooting JSB 14,35gr. My 34 shoots great both ways. Once you learn how to take your 34 apart, replacing the seal is no big deal. IMO, My D34 177cal has the PG2 soft tune with a parachute seal and its getting an Av.829.6 FPS shooting JSB 8,44gr. I find the PG2 kit a little easier to install then the ARH kit. JMO, they are both very good kits. or you could do a lube tune and save some money. Hope some of this helps

Some like Maccari's kit better (Air Rifle Headquarters), but I found his site a bit off-putting and not nearly as user friendly as Vortek's. Vortek is great answering any questions you have including how to install a seal which is a little tough until you figure it out or get told how. They have a video on it. I've had both the parachute seal and the O ring. I can't say I noticed much difference between the two, the O ring seal was a little easier to get into the compression tube though. You do want to file down ALL rough metal edges on the tube first though.
Good links from BenjiHunter. I knew absolutely nothing about airguns when I joined GTA but wound up building a fine spring compressor, tuning, repairing a cracked stock, making a jig to bend the barrel, a V block for scope adjusting and probably other things I've forgotten. Many times frustrating but quite interesting. If you have any desire to go that direction, do it!

Wayne,
Just to throw one more option into the mix... I installed a Vortek PG2 kit in my 34, but I didn't use the lube that came with the kit. I've read it can break down after awhile. Instead, I bought moly and heavy tar from ARH. I installed the moly on the piston, and a light coat of heavy tar on the spring. There is no twang, with a very smooth and quick shot cycle. I'm shooting FTT 8.64 pellets at about 870fps, and I'm very happy with the shot cycle.
You might also want to read this thread, as it has some related info:

Good Luck!

I had the same question about the lube myself . Seem like a lot of different options . Heavy tar, clear tar moly can be confusing to the novice.

I have a PG2 in my D48 and it is great. A bit less power than stock, but the loss of vibration and torque are well worth it. A few fps either way is meaningless IMO anyway. I too use Air Rifle Headquarters moly rather than the supplied lube from vortek, however I have sworn off the heavy tar--very messy and not needed IMO--I used the spring lube that came with the Vortek kit (looks like white lithium grease) with excellent results. Build a compressor and go for it. The 34 is a great rifle and you will not believe how much smoother shooting and cocking it is after a tune. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks guys for all the help. Will post when finished. I'm now waiting to order because I stopped at a gun shop today to see if they would take my offer on a 48 and the girl behind the counter came out with a Diana 25 . They didn't take my offer on the 48 but I did bring the 25 home . It definitely needs a breach seal and maybe more . So I'm waiting to order . I think I found a new addiction . Thanks a lot , don't tell the wife .
