Title: Notos - my personal experience
Post by: PasadenaMike on March 02, 2023, 01:11:55 PM
This little carbine is pretty sweet. Right out of the box the trigger felt like 10 pounds or something , I didn’t measure it but I ended up adjusting it to about 3 pounds And it feels great. I installed a 2-7 power Hawke scope on it and a saber, tactical 34 mm Picatinny tube adapter which is very solid for installing a bipod or whatever. I had a chance to shoot it over the chronograph with Crossman premier hollow points. The results are 18 foot pounds average which is like 740, 50 ft./s. The gun is very quiet and it’s also very hand pump friendly . I can pump it from 2000 psi to about 3600 psi with less than 40 strokes on my hand pump. I think we have a winner as a cheap quiet short truck gun that shoots Crossman premier hollow points at minute of ground squirrel accuracy. I’m very picky with my guns so far I have not had any complaints about this.

The more I shoot mine the more I like it!  You can get that trigger even smoother by just sanding that sharp tip off the adjustment screw!  It's super easy to access, but remove the stock and the 3 screws that hold the panel on over the trigger assembly.  The whole trigger slides right out and you can use some 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper to take the edge off that grub screw (you don't even have to remove it from the trigger)!  Add a dab of grease at the contact points and reassemble.  It won't make it any lighter, but it sure makes it smoother!  ;D

Reminds me of the pp750. Spent a lot of time with it then moved on. Its in the box it came in with other guns I imagine selling one day.

Great gun and worthy of all the attention, just not my speed/use in the long run of my airgunning adventure.  The modified sortie fills the role a bit better for me.

mine showed up yesterday, did the trigger screw and adjusted, cleaned and aired up, my Spiritech compressor pumped it up in a little under 2 minutes from 0 to 3600psi, put a couple pellets through it over the chrony, 781fps average, put a UTG 4-16x44 compact scope on it with medium rings, perfect setup, now I just have to sight it in today, got some extra magazines coming from AGAF, should be here next week, I like the gun, it's lighter than my Prod, and easier to operate the side action, Crosman pellets are a little tight but they work, I'm going to try some JSB 14's and 15's, just to see if the group well.

Good, I have a bunch of those, I did a comparison check and the Notos probe is just about a millimeter smaller in diameter than my Weihrauch HW100 probes, I was hoping they were the same but just a Hair off..... :o ;)
I think I will make a spare on the lathe, I have some Brass rods that will work.

I won the UPS lottery and my Notos showed up today. Well I didn't totally win, it showed up with about 15 minutes of daylight left so all I could do was air it up and shoot a mag into the dirt just to make sure it is working properly. Initial impressions, yep I'm going to like this one!! Many thanks to all those who have gone before me. I know the trigger ( totally heavy) can be adjusted, and several things can be done to improve this little carbine. More to come... ;)

I can't answer the first few questions, but the moderator won't come off without a hack saw!  There are 2 pins that hold the end cap in place, but I've not had it apart to see if the baffles can be removed.  I will saw it's quieter than some of the aftermarket moderators I have.

Mine was here when I  got home yesterday. Was late and didn't have much time with it.
Only assembled it and added some air.
1st impression... negatives: Trigger will need some work. Only PCP I can compare to is
the Origin which really surprised me with its trigger. The fill probe is NOT interchangeable
with the Origin. Would think both being Umarex they'd be compatible.
Positives: Really like the magnetic single shot tray. The gun is really short and light.
The origin will be like carrying a fence post after the Notos.
Are all the youtubers I been watching with this midgets? It's even shorter than I expected.
Really going to like that. Hand Pumping it was a breeze.
Hopefully will get some pellets down the bore this weekend

It has a really simplestic trigger mechinism, but not sure why they used an adjustment grub screw with a tip like an ice pic!  If you take the trigger shoe out and file that tip off, then smooth it with some finegrit sandpaper it will help a lot.  I went so far as to pilish the contact points on the lever as well and now it's quite smooth.  I also adjusted it so it has a lot less first stage travel and it's turned into a pretty decent trigger.

trigger is quick and easy to fix.

the 2 stage trigger on the notos can be made very acceptable.

take the screw in the trigger all the way out,
and use sandpaper or a file to lightly round the sharp point on the screw.

screw it back into the trigger until the first stage wont reset on its own (with the gun cocked)

then back it out about a quarter turn,
that will make it a nice light first stage,
with a clean break on the second stage.

if you want to go even deeper,
a lighter weight spring in the trigger helps it also.

also, there are a couple other screws in the trigger mechanism that can be adjusted for first stage length and sear engagement.

and only takes a few min to replace.

there is no doubt, its just about perfect for the notos.

but im just so used to FFP i cant get used to it,
probably be in the classifieds soon lol

the ffp veyron 3-12 compact is just a little heavier,
has illum for inside dark barns,
i dig the reticle,
and better eye box than the discovery 3-12 compact.

Outstanding! Thanks for the pix, makes a LOT more sense to me now.

I just finished reading 18 pages of Notos mods over at the black forum and see that the moderator is held on to the barrel with 2 hidden C clips so you have to cut off the moderator to remove it.

The pin is also a red herring, it does not help with the moderator removal.

Got a little trigger time this morning. Found 3 accuracy contenders. Mind these are single 5 shot groups except the CPHPs which I think the
1st group was bad mostly me getting used to the trigger.
1) JSB Exact 14.35 gr.
2) AA 16 gr. Roundnose
3) CPHPs.... Kinda excited here 1st group sucked while getting used to the feel of the gun, 2nd group was 4 in one hole with 5th near touching
the other four
 All groups at 22 yards.

Using a cheap UTG 3x9. Another scope or at least slightly taller rings will be a help

Got my used Notos yesterday afternoon from Fred White so when I got home I pulled the side plate and flattened the point on the trigger grub screw, I probably do a little more work on it later.  Threw a 4-16 scope on I had laying around and got it sighted in , in my basement using Benjamin 14.3 dome hp seems to like them for my short range starling shooting. So far I'm really happy with it.

If anyone wants a nice quality pic rail for the tube I installed one of these. It’s solid. I also installed an Accu shot monopod as a folding vertical grip I run these on a few guns

So, I've had mine most of a weekend now. Not at all displeased.
Only PCP I've had hands on so far is the Origin and I've posted my observations on it.
What I was looking for was something substantially more compact, and less powerful,
nice to shoot cheap pellets accurately. Must be head shot accurate on squirrel to 30 yards.                                                                                                No shifting POI. It seems to be doing all that.
Next will be some trigger work. Very optimistic about this one.
Ask me in a year or two how much I'm still liking it. That'll be the real test

Thanks Mike, that bottle clamp looks well made. I need to order Carm mags first, but may add that clamp later. Did you have to modify the clamp any?

No worries :) the tube rail is a straight bolt on no modification needed. I only buy things you don’t have to modify.

Does Umarex have parts for their guns? What if the regulator goes bad? I know the O-rings could be sourced. I wished all PCPs came with a seal kit.

They do, but they are more apt to have you send it back and they just replace it.   There is a Umarex employee who is a member here who is really good about responding to PM’s, I need to find his user name though because I’m getting old and suffer from CRS, so it escapes me at the moment!!!   ;D

Plus the box is small so shipping would be cheap vs a Gauntlet box

Okay, I found him!  His name is Justin, GTA username is JB-Umarex.  You can alway PM him with any questions or concerns about any Umarex product.  Justin was very helpful when I needed some o-rings for a leaking Air Javelin Pro!

Well, that was happening too, so it could very well be a contributing factor!   ;D

I had to look back at old PM's from when he helped me with the Air Javelin Pro, otherwise, I'd still be wondering!   :o
