The Huben K1 arrived yesterday with about 200 BAR in it. It still had 3 CPHP's in the magazine. The accompanying paperwork said it was tuned to low power for 14.3 grain pellets at around 835 FPS. I'll be shooting 18 grain pellets, but with just 3 clicks on that power wheel and the 18 grains were shooting at an average 975 FPS and grouping nicely at 37 yards. I put a .25 DonnyFL Tanto on it and it's still grouping just as nice and it is a little quieter. More importantly, it's a little longer. It wouldn't fit in any of the rest I had in the safe or the gun closet, but with the added length of the LDC, now it fits! I put 3-4 full magazines (19 rounds each) through it and it dropped from 200 BAR to 110 BAR, which is what the regulator is set at.
I'm not a fan of bullpups, but this one is different. I guess it's because I don't have to worry about a cocking lever, just load and shoot! It's about the same length as my Prod and doesn't weight much more. Most of the weight is at the Butt end, so it really feels lighter than it is since your shoulder is supporting the majority of the weight. It does shoulder well and is comfortable to shoot.
I did try some FX Hybrid slugs in it yesterday before it got too dark. They didn't do bad. I didn't change any setting and they were shooting at just over 900 fps. I have some of the lighter NSA slugs (17 & 20 grain) that I might try. So far those have not performed well in anything I have, so they have been sitting on a shelf. It would be great if they worked well in the K1!
I will say the larger .25 cal LDC does not appear to be messing with the groups. I was happy to see the results because I really did not want to buy a .30 cal LDC for it. POI did shift about ½" at 37 yards when I put it on, but the groups stayed the same. It's not a laser like my FX, so I have not seen any hole-in-hole shots yet, but they have been staying in about a ½" group and it still needs to settle in some. I have high hopes!
I will say that trigger is amazing! I would like to shorten the first stage to where it's maybe half the distance it is now, but otherwise, it feels great. I can definitely get faster double taps with the K1 than I can with the SAM!
I filled it to 300 BAR after I finished shooting last night and when I checked the gauge this morning, it's holding air just fine. I hope to get some more time behind the trigger today and will post some pictures and possibly a video later after having some fun! So far, I am pleased with the results, this one may be a keeper!

That and SK-19 are my two favorite semi autos I really love them both. Grin machines
-
I really wanted the SK-19 because of the full-auto, but just heard too many negatives with the trigger. I do like how nice the trigger is on the K1. Given my past history with semi-autos, I didn't have real high expectations, but thus far, this one has been a joy to shoot!

Woo-H00!!! Congrat's!!!
Now, What's a keeper. Never seen such an animal. Heard of them. Must be reallly rare. ;D

Congrats on one beautiful airgun Paul! Glad you enjoy the trigger, to me it was one important thing that distinguished it from the other semiautos I have tried.
-
Would Huben work as a bullet shooter, i.e. how long bullets fit in the magazine and how much power can you get from the gun in .22 caliber? If you say 1/2" and 100 fpe then I can see a Huben in my future ...

Well, this one is a pretty fast one! Double taps are surprisingly quick and stay right on target! Maybe I'll call it Chester, like the Cheetah!

I was definitely surprised by the trigger, in a very good way! I didn't get a chance to shoot it yesterday, but now that the time has changed, I hope to have time this afternoon.

Good question, I'll measure the depth of the magazine later and see what it is. It looks deeper than your average pellet magazine, .i.e. Crosman, FX, etc.

Paul, CONGRATULATIONS on getting the Huben! Gobs of power on tap with those and the valve less system is bug free on these...enjoy that bad boy! Hopefully the barrel will like the NSA!

Thank you Randall! Now all I need is to set up the outdoor speaker to play the Pied Piper melody so all the rats come a running! Oh wait, those were lemmings, I guess I need to figure out something else to attract them, they don't seem to be interested in bird seed any more!

Big congrats on the K1 Paul !!! One heck of a gun for sure !!!

Wouldn't ya know it? Just when you have the means to double tap them to death they wise up! Time for new bait...

I know! My luck, I have ample air power, delivered at lightening speed with sub MOA accuracy and there's no rats willing to be the first to get blasted! Bunch of cowards!

Throw a bunch of paintballs out there and have at them

I measured the depth of the magazine at 10.98mm. This is the .22, I don't know if the .25 is the same or possibly a little deeper.

Paul, you're welcome! LOL...you should definitely play the Pied Pier melody....lemmings are a rodent too...and over populate to the point of cliff suicide! So...you might as well shoot them with your new Huben shooting gallery style!

Ahh, a bit too short for .22lr bullets and their copies. Still, better than usual 9mm length that's found on most magazines. Thanks! I have a vision of a semi-auto that would shoot around 0.14 BC .22 bullets at decent speed, I just haven't found one yet.

Maybe I'll give it a try, at this point, it sue wouldn't hurt! LOL! With the weather warning up, I felt pretty confident I'd start seeing more, but not a one since the one last month.

I knew it looked bigger than your typical magazine, too bad it couldn't have been just a tad longer. It certainly seems to have ample power to shoot longer bullets! Good luck with your search!

I got some trigger time with the K1 today. Some observations:
It don’t work under 100 BAR! I was shooting, practicing my double taps when all of a sudden it started sounding like it does when you shoot it with an empty mag. But, there were still pellets in the mag. It just stopped advancing the magazine. I topped it off to 310 BAR and all was back to normal.
That power wheel just keeps spinning!!! I was shooting 18.13 gr JSBs and increasing the power a click at a time. It hit around 1050 FPS and didn’t go any higher, even with another 4-5 clicks up! So, after about 5-6 clicks the other direction, the velocity started to drop again. I stopped at just under 950 FPS, which seems to be the sweet spot for the 18.13 gr JSBs!
I also tested some H&N .217 slugs. I’m not impressed! Not surprisingly, the 25 grain slugs grouped the best. I tried weights of 21, 23, 25, 27, and 30 grins. This was with the same tune I had for the JSB Monsters shooting at 950 FPS.
I also ordered one tin of the new .217, 25.39 JSB slugs. Maybe they will perform as good as the JSB 25.39 pellets, who knows. I already have the .217 and .218 NSA Samplers and also ordered a .216 Sampler. Once those arrive I’ll do a comparison or the 23 - 28 grain weights in each caliber to see which one performed the best. The H&N Rabbit Magnum slugs were horrible, but I’m not surprised, I’ve yet to find a rifle that will shoot groups that don’t look like a shot gun blast with those.
Testing different pellets/slugs is a PITA! I typically load 5 of each pellet in sequence when testing and then shoot 5 shots per target and record the velocity while seeing how they group. Without being able to remove the magazines, it’s a really cr@p shoot trying to figure out where the first pellet in the string is located in the magazine!
I also double tapped a sparrow at 50 yards! I didn’t record it because it was really just an impulse shot. The video probably would have been uneventful, it just seemed to disappear. When I went to check it, there was just a pile of feathers! I have no idea if I actually hit him once or twice! But, it pretty much vaporized the poor thing!
All in all it was a fun afternoon.
-
I'm betting .218 is going to be the way to go on those slugs. Also, don't be afraid to give those slugs FULL BEANS :D I generally shoot my .22 slugs in the 1000 fps range, even the 35 grain ones. Some do best all the way up around 1050 fps.
-
Try Dale’s(VarmintKnocker) slugs. I have the .25 but guys with the .22 have reported good results with them.

Also NSA has some .22 slugs made for the Huben

So today instead a HOSP says to his buds, "Here hold my beer"... ;D

With the difficulty of buying pellets/slugs in just about any size, I see full auto as a problem. Might be fun, but it costs. Full auto is good for Youtube, but not for accuracy, even from a 25.

My thoughts exactly! I think if I can perfect my double tap, there really is no need for full auto, other than just the thrill! Now if someone could perfect the 3 round burst, that might be a game changer! LOL! But again, even the cheap pellets seem to be getting harder to find and their prices are creeping up as well. It's times like this I think about going back to single load air rifles!
-
I wonder what the cheapest, yet most accurate pellet would be for the Huben. Not necessarily with highest velocity or greatest knockdown power or sub-MOA accuracy, just a fairly accurate, inexpensive and readily available pellet, even if it means turning down the power wheel and/or reg.
We all know these things can get up in the 80fpe or so neighborhood, but for normal daily times when one just wants to plink accurately in the backyard...
-
Have you tried the Crosman Premier Ultra Domed pellets yet? I have not, even though that's supposedly what mine was tuned for. Maybe I'll load up a magazine and see what they do at various velocities.

“Readily available pellet” ..that doesn’t exist anymore😂 Only pellet I see fitting that description are the crosman’s

So true nowadays...and I do have a couple thousand CP 14.3 domes I may try, might have to turn the power wheel down to almost zero though... ::)

Same here, I clear out my local Walmart every time I see em.
Depending on your reg setting, turning down the power wheel might not be enough. I’d set it at 110 bar
-
Yeah my reg is set at 135 BAR now and Kelly was testing it in his shop at that setting before shipping it out - so at zero clicks the Crosman 14.3gr crawled out the barrel at 331 fps at first, then climbing to 624 as it settled in at the zero click setting.
So it may be doable, although for consistency's sake I would indeed drop the reg down to maybe 1500 psi as you suggest and go up a click or three...and get several hundred shots per fill then, I would guess... 8)
-
Sounds like a plan. I know it will be hard to keep track of all those shots but if you can please let me know how many you get at that setting. I might sell this dang sk19 to get a .22 huben. Build quality is better on the huben

No, the 14.3 grain cheapies! Domed though, not the hollow points. The sheet that came with the rifle showed the regulator is set at 115BAR and the 14.3 grain CPHP's were shooting at 848 ins with the wheel set at 14 clicks open. I have no idea how many clicks full throttle is, but 14 click sure sounds like a lot. I had 18.1 grain JSB flying at 1050 fps, when I had it full open the other day, backing it off 4-5 clicks got it settle in at 950 fps. So, I would think another 4-5 clicks down and the 14.3 grain CPUD's should be flying right around that same speed.
This is what the sheet showed for the 14.3 grain CPHPs:
Click = FPS
1 = 346
2 = 360
3 = 379
4 = 388
5 = 416
6 = 439
7 = 459
8 = 491
9 = 521
10 = 546
11 = 607
12 = 667
13 = 774
14 = 848
Interesting that below 5 clicks it takes 4 clicks to increase 50 fps, then from 6 - 9 clicks it's increases just over 100 fps, but after 10 clicks, it looks like it gains 50 -60 fps per click!

you have A Lot more clicks left!!!

So, I thought I'd try some of the cheap 14.3 grain CPUDs to see how they performed. I had it loaded with 18.13 grain JSBs that were shooting at roughly 950 fps. I had to clear the magazine of the remaining JSBs, so what better way to do so than to dump them into a spinner!
https://youtu.be/WtWfXDmP_BY
After reloading with the CPUDs, I turned the power wheel down 4 clicks to start. I shot 2 shot then increased it 1 click. It topped out at 1039 fps after 5 clicks up. I then backed it off 3 clicks and shot the rest. The regulator sure doesn't seem very consistent, the spread was from 907 to 923 fps. I guess it could be settling in, so probably should worry about it too much at this point.

You have to adjust the regulator to get it into balance of the power wheel. Your spread shows to much reg pressure and to low setting on power wheel.

What should I set the regulator too? It's at 115 BAR right now. Should I take it down to 100 BAR or lower?
-
The only stuff that seems to be more easily obtained are the lead free pellets, that and cheapo Seneca brand that look really rough. The tins of Seneca I bought for my Empire X, look like garbage,but I'll try they to make sure. They will most likely get melted and turned into Bulldog chow.
-
I have found the best slug for Huben 2020 to be VN 28.5gr. Regulator set to about 165bar. Power wheel adjusted to 1040fps. Good for 38 shots. Super accurate and devastating on game.
The NSA 36.2gr are not good in the 2020. They changed the barrel specs. Actually I don't think NSA even offers them anymore.
-
Congrats on your Huben Paul. You lucked out that yours likes the 18 gr. I've tried mine on several different speeds and can't get it to group to suit me. But she loves the 25 grain redesigns at 920 fps.
Had a real windy day and shot a few groups but decided to stay at my zero of 28 yds because of the wind.
I shot two five shot groups with 4 different pups and they all held their own pretty good. Saved the Huben for last and it hung right in there with the rest of em. Was shooting 18 grain in the first three pups and of course the 25 RD's in the .22 Huben.
And shot a thumbnail size five shot group with the Huben at 46 yds on a rusty piece of metal.

I did not see anything that mentioned the Huben on NSA's website, I had also e-mailed Nick to see what his recommendation was and he never mentioned anything about any special Huben slugs either. I should have the rest of my samples next week and will do some testing.

Thanks Jimmy! The redesigned do shoot better than the 18 grain, but I am happy with how both group. I have some FX 25.34 grain pellets coming also, hopefully they will shoot just as well. Yours if grouping very nicely!
-
Nice groups across the board!
-
If your sticking with pellets, the 34gr are very accurate at 980 fps withing 50 yards, not so much beyond that range though. Again, the VN 28.5gr is my go to. Haven't found anything more accurate and consistent yet, and I've tried alot.

Sorry I could not edit my earlier post but the 14.3's went up to 624fps at 10 clicks w/reg set at 135 BAR.
John, what is the VN 28.5-grain slug you refer to?
Paul, there was indeed an NSA slug made especially for the Huben but I believe it is no longer offered as was mentioned.

In fact Varmint Knockers makes one especially for the Huben, if this ebay link was not already posted somewhere else:

In fact Varmint Knockers makes one especially for the Huben, if this ebay link was not already posted somewhere else:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/22-CAL-223-HUBEN-K-1-SWAGE-SLUGS-28-5-GRAIN-100-COUNT-FROM-VARMINTKNOCKERS-/254369743033 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/22-CAL-223-HUBEN-K-1-SWAGE-SLUGS-28-5-GRAIN-100-COUNT-FROM-VARMINTKNOCKERS-/254369743033)
YE-OUCH! Varmint Knocker really think a lot of their slugs! $15.00 plus shipping for 100 slugs? That's pricier than the FX Hybrids! I think I'll wait till all my NSA slug samples arrive, hope there's one that works and go with those. 350 for $18.99 is a little more economical. The JSB .25.39 Knock-outs are $10.59 for 200 from Trenier Outdoors. I have a tin of those coming as well. If none of those work, I'll stick with the pellets. Thankfully, the 18.13 grain JSB's are performing pretty decent. I may back off the regulator a bit more and see if I can find a better balance shoot them. At the rate this thing eats pellets, I can't afford to go too high end! :o
-
Yup, expenseevo!
I am glad the FX 18.1s are doing good for me at this time, will have to put some JSB 18.13s through as well but only had a tin of those left yet had 5 tins of the FX 18.1s so I am only shooting those right now.
Actually I’m looking forward to receiving the 25.39 FX “Redesign” clones (same die as the JSB in same factory I am told, just that it’s the SAME die over and over vs various dies used for the JSBs).
-
Has anyone tried .22 Eunjin's? In .25 my Mrod @ 65fpe got 3 touching at 75 yards more often then not. They're inexpensive comparatively.
-
I tried some of the pointed Eujins, I don't recall the weight, I just had some in a small tube I used to use to carry pellets in the field. They did not shoot well at all!
-
The heavy monsters shoot well probably the best out of that gun. The H&N barracudas shoot well also. I did find however the gun did not like to shoot anything slow. Faster the better and nothing light.

Good to know was gonna try some 14.3s tomorrow but perhaps no sense

Hey Paul congrats on the new gun those look like they would be so much fun to shoot. I am not sure I understand the fixed mag though. Can you index when you load so you can just shoot five at a time?
Great video thanks for sharing.

VN is short for Varmint Knockers. The 28.5gr is the best hands down in the 2020 version Huben, and probably 2021 as I don't think the barrel has changed.
For earlier model Hubens, NSA made a slug for that barrel at 36gr. This slug performed poorly in the newer Huben barrels.
As for pellets in 22cal, both JSB 25gr and 34gr are good contenders. Haven't tested any lighter weights.
After initial testing, all my Huben eats is the VN 28.5gr. Sure it's a lil pricier then other options but it hits the target each and every time packing a whallop.

So the newer Hubens are still shooting the .223 slugs best? I haven't followed the different generations super closely, but I thought they had started putting barrels with "air gun sized" bores in the later guns?

Wes
You can index the magazine, but it's tricky because you are pretty much guessing where the first pellet it. It takes 19 rounds, so I probably ought to figure it out, it would be just a matter of shooting it till the first rounds fires, then next time just index it the same number of clicks as there were dry fired shots.

Paul, congrats on your Huben. Fun guns for sure. I've owned a lot of good guns over the years and the Huben is my favorite gun I've ever owned. I've rebuilt and tuned several of them as we have about 10 or more in the local area. Some are picky with pellets but I have one that shoots just about anything I put in it.
The best upgrade I've done is add a Huma reg. It is so much more consistent and at 110 bar I can shoot the Crosmans at 350 fps for barn shooting and JSB RD at 950 just by using the powerwheel..
Love the Huben

Randy, the one thing I have noticed is the inconsistency in velocity! Shoot the new JSB Knock-outs, I'd get 3 consistent shots at around 970 fps, and then one at 909 fps, then it would be back at 970 fps for a couple more shots. How difficult is the removal of the stock regulator and the installation of the Huma reg?

Huma wont help that. You can drive up your reg pressure and then lower your power wheel or do what i did and make a huge plenum and put a bottle on it. The plenum is to small.
-
Paul, its easy to change but you lose the external adjustment feature which is nice to have while tuning.. tuning in the Huma is harder as you have to drain all the air and take it apart so it take more time.
Travis knows more about the other question as I never shoot slugs or heavier pellets.
I usually keep mine set up for 18 gr JSB at 900 fps with reg at 110 bar and get 5+ mags. My stock reg worked best at 125 bar. The Huma is very quick to recover and the needle hardly moves no matter how fast you shoot.
I've shot thousands of pellets through mine with no issues. I've shot the CPUM , 16 gr, 18gr, and 25 gr JSB at various speeds without touching the reg. I set my speed and sighted it in and the only time I touch my settings is if I change pellets for any reason. This past winter several of us went starling shooting in a barn at nite. I turned down my powerwheel until the CPUM were doing 350-370, then click my scope up until it was on at ten yards and I was good to go. I almost emptied a full tin of 500 on one fill, probably about 375 to 400 shots. Never touched the reg. It was awesome.
I realize all guns are different so ymmv if you go that route. We have 10 or so Hubens in my area and most of the guys are shooting the 25 gr JSB with factory regs around 140. A couple with Huma's at 110 and one at 150.
-
Thanks Randy. I was thinking of setting the Huma regulator at 115 or 120, then I'd probably be able to shoot slugs and pellets. I've been searching youtube to find a video that shows how to instal the Huma reg. It looks as though it should be fairly easy, but how far do you have to tear it down to actually get access to swap it out? I've not found any that just show how to disassemble it just far enough to swap out the regulator. The disassembly videos I've found seem to go way beyond what actually needs to be done. Any tips?

My reg. stays right around 135 BAR and with 21 clicks I’m getting low- to mid-900s with 25.4-gr pellets so this is good to hear.

Paul,
You have to drain all the air out of the gun, both tube and receiver. Remove air tube and screw apart removing the complete reg housing as the Huma comes with the housing assy which is threaded on both sides for the air tube. The new housing is different since its not adjustable from the outside. The new Huma reg adjusts via the brass screw just like all their regs but the air tube has has to be taken apart to adjust. It is inside the front air tube. The new housing has a cut in the front threads for it to breathe. The regs we got in from Huma were preset at 145-150 but we turned them down to 110. You can call me if you need to talk.

Thanks Randy! I'll hold onto your number, once the Huma Reg arrives, I'll give you a call to get some pointers on the actual disassembly. The videos I have watched thus far are all full disassembly and seem like they go way further than I'll probably need to go to just swap the regulator.
To degas, do you just turn the regulator down till the gauge shows zero? To degas the receiver, is that just dry firing till it's empty?
On the disassembly, it looks like I may just have to remove the power wheel and the fitting under it, then take the big pin out and remove the stock. Does the barrel and trigger have to be removed to swap the regulator? Can I just loosen the bolts that hold the bracket between the barrel and air cylinder and then remove the silver regulator from the stock tube, then unscrew the air cylinder and regulator hosing from the section that attaches to the breech? I'm trying to figure the least invasive way to get this accomplished.
I was thinking of setting the regulator to either 115 or 120 BAR when I get it. 145-150 BAR seems way higher than I'll probably need. I have a bunch of slugs to test, but given the cost, I'll probably just shoot the 18 grain domes if I can get them grouping like my FX! Thanks for your help!

To tear down for reg replacement this is what I do.
Mag sure mag is empty.
Turn powerwheel all the way down. Remove back cover , spring and buffer. Hold a folded up towel over rear and pull trigger. It will pop out open valve and hammer. Let air drain completely. Remove power adjust wheel and then with needle nose pliers unscrew adjuster.
Push out pin in front then remove from stock. Loosen two bolts on front band and slide off. Remove front bolt of main housing clamp and loosen two rear bolts then slide off shroud.
Remove trigger screw at rear that holds rod eye to link in receiver then slide off the main assy(scope rail, trigger and rod)
Take out screw and clip that holds airtube on and remove air tube and screw apart. Install new reg housing and reassemble in reverse.
Took longer to type than it does to do.
-
All that makes sense but the first couple steps:
Remove back cover, spring and buffer. Hold a folded up towel over rear and pull trigger. It will pop out open valve and hammer.
When you say remove back cover, spring and buffer, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't recall seeing this step in the disassemble video! I wist there was a video on swapping the regulator, Huma says there are no instructions, making it sound as if it should be intuitive as to how to disassemble it, but it doesn't seem to come apart like any other air rifle I've had!

Hey guys, I was just quietly following the post to see what I could pick up and learn.
Don't know if this will help but Gregor has a disassembly and reassembly videos out?
You guys are probably already aware of it as you seem light years ahead of me!

Thanks Jimmy, the disassembly video is the one I was referring to. And yes, it is long! I will admit, I have skipped through it because I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way to just swap the regulator, so I may have missed something.
-
Huben used to have a video of reg replacement on their website and it showed how to do this. Looks like they changed their site now and I can't find it. You can also keep lowering reg pressure and draining that way but its recommended to pop out the valve. It's scary the first time but it's really simple. I need to take pics or make a video next time I do one. Just finished one up last week but never gave that a thought.

Here is the link. Its on Kelly's KraZCool page.
It's a little different as this one shows them putting the cover back on without the spring, then firing. I just hold a towel over the back.

Nice gun Paul ;D ;D ;D ;D I want the LCS sk 19 .30 when it comes out . I think that one will gov -stimulus myself / seller pretty good ! ;D ;D , to hold me over I have a new AEA Challenger .357 coming in today AEA Bin Sig shooter on you tube tells me 125 g slug 900 fps out of the box ... 32 inch barrel available ,it should be able to push a 150 g pretty good around the 900 fps area , I bought the molds to do .357 pellets ,and slugs so I can shoot more big bore .357 stuff ,and depend on no one for ammo , I am no longer buying hardly any pellets or slugs just investing in molds ,and sizing dies ...
with that Huban I would defiantly cast for it , that one can eat a lot of ammo up in a hurry ! ;)
-
These Hubens are incredible. Mine came the other day. Reg seems set at 170bar, and JSB 18s are screaming at 1078. Can't believe how quiet it is. Only had time to run 1 mag, very excited about getting to spend time with it this weekend.
What mold are you gonna get for the Huben? I can see needing a ton of ammo.

Do you have any links? I've tried searching there, but come up with way too much contact! Guess I'm not using the correct search terms!

That Challenger sounds like a real beast! A big Bore, especially a full auto, sounds like fun, you will need a ton of lead for that one!

Congrats on joining the Huben team. Randy and I have owned Hubens for 3 years now. I own 2, one setup to shoot Jsb 18gr. & Crossman 14.3gr. and the other setup for Jsb 25gr Redesign & Nelson slugs. They are a hunting machine. I also owned for a short time LCS , sold it. Enjoy, hope you have a lot of air & pellets. Huben out!

Thanks John! The thought of shooting slugs is exciting, but in a practical sense, I don't really have anything I need to shoot slugs at! I mainly push paper and ravage rats, and the 15.89gr and 18.13gr JSBs do an amazing job at that. So, I'm going to play with the sample slugs I have, figure out what shoots best, and then will probably set it up for accuracy shooting the the lighter weight pellets since they are more economical and more suited or what I typically shoot. I'm hoping to find a nice reg pressure that will allow me to shoot both pellets and slugs with decent accuracy and only have to use the power wheel to switch between the two. I may end up being a pipe dream, but for now, that's the goal!

150 bar seems to be a good place to shoot everything with factory reg. And you may get by with 140 bar with a Huma.
-
So, a question for John and Randy about the Huma Regulator... How accurate are the set points on the regulator itself? Seems I've been chasing reg pressure all over the place with the Huben regulator and getting very inconsistent velocities from one shot to the next. I have tried 100 BAR, 110 BAR, 130 BAR and 150 BAR. All have inconstant velocities from one shot to the next. Just curious if I set the Huma to 120 BAR based on the scale on the regulator itself, will the gauge actually show 120 BAR? It would almost be a blessing to set it one time and not have to mess with anything but the power wheel to move from lighter pellets to heavier pellet, then even to slugs!
-
All of the Huma regs I've played with tend to be pretty close to the scale. I think the worse case I've had was maybe 10-15 bar off, tops. Most have been darn near spot on.
-

Thanks Donny! The Huma should arrive today or tomorrow, it arrived at the UPS Hub in Pensacola this morning! Amazing how Huma can ship from the Netherlands to Florida in 2-3 days and it takes stateside vendors a week or more to ship here, even if they are only a couple states away. And everyone blames the pandemic because overseas shipments can't get through! Well, Huma sure figured it out! LOL!
I tried Gregor's tip on reconfiguring the Bellville washer stack to a 2 on 2 configuration instead of 3 on 3 configuration. I couldn't get it to work, there wasn't enough room on the shaft for all the washers, so it was 2 short to get it back together. This created a situation where I don't think the regulator was strong enough to control the air pressure from the cylinder. I was getting a blast of air in the face from every shot, and it went from 300 BAR to 100 BAR in one magazine! I put it back to the 3 on 3 configuration and that fixed that problem, but I'm still seeing a lot of inconsistency in velocity from one shot to the next. I have tried the 100 BAR setup Gregor recommended for pellets, then increased 10 BAR per session to see if I could find the right balance between the regulator and power wheel to get more consistent shots at around the 950 fps point. I finally stopped at 130 BAR and gave up. I'm still seeing differences of over 50 FPS between shots! I sure hope the Huma regulator will fix this!
-
I've installed several Huma regs in various guns and they have been very close to scale as marked on them. I just did a Huben for a friend and it is off about 10 according gauge on gun. Huma scale shows 140 and gauge reads 150. So not sure if its the reg or gauge that is off but once set it don't matter. I have mine at 110 and it reads exactly 110 on gauge. I think 120 would be a good set and forget setting if you are going to shoot 18 and 25 gr pellets. I actually had mine set at 120 when I first installed it with no issues but I like to tinker and wanted to see how it performed at 110 so I changed it. Works great so I just left it there.
-
Thanks Randy, that's good to know! I plan on setting it to 120 BAR and seeing how it goes. Hopefully, it will be the sweet spot and I'll get more insistent shot strings! Thanks again for your help!
Quite honestly, I really don't care to be adjusting the regulator too much anyway. I have a few regulated airguns that don't have externally adjustable regulators, and once I set them up to where I like them, I never touch the regulator again. Even my FX rifle, that have an adjustable regulator, don't get adjusted once I have them set up, so losing the adjustability of the regulator isn't that big a deal to me!

Just an aside, mine came at 135BAR (I may have mentioned it in a PM) and I think yours came set at 110BAR ready for 14.3gr pellets or still had some in the mag, correct? And with the testing you just did, you stopped at 130BAR?
So I'm wondering what you might find if you went up 5 more BAR...not saying mine will shoot more consistent as I have not gone there yet, but just a thought in the meantime.
-
Another one interesting fact that might explain a lot with the inconsistencies I’m seeing compared to yours. Apparently Huben came out with a new reg design for 2020. Per Kelly mine is a Jan 2020 build, and the new regulator has a red dot on it. Mine doesn’t. So, I’m assuming the new regulator was introduced after January 2020. I’ll have to find the video and post it, but apparently, the new model regulator is supposed to fix the inconsistency issues.
To answer your question, yes, it did come set at 110 BAR and still had a few CPHP’s in the magazine. I did find this odd because I had asked that it be set up to shoot 18.13 grain JSB’s! Maybe he confused my order with another. As far as going higher than 130 BAR, I’d raise it to 150 BAR to try some slugs, but then lowered it again.
The Huma Reg is out for delivery, so I should have it later tonight. I’m going to set the regulator to 120 BAR, then shoot it down to around 120 BAR before I break it down and install the Huma regulator. After the install, I’ll do another shot string to see how many shots I get before I hit 120 BAR and see if the consistency improves.
Here's the video that talks about the updated Huben Regulator:
https://youtu.be/YzKRKNOKcfY

Highly interesting video, thanks, his orig reg seemed pretty steady as it was but then he did say it was after a thousand shots or something - but we don't know if he was adjusting the reg at all during that original 1000 shot break-in period, he never mentioned it
-
He also mentioned that he had added a couple washers to the original to increase the pressure.
The Huma reg was delivered tonight. I set it to 120 BAR and hope to get it installed tomorrow.

I do not think I have added to this thread and if I did sorry for the double post ;)
My Huben K1 is in my TOP 5 group of favorite PCP's out of my almost 100 PCP collection.
LOVE my K1, hands down one of the most versatile and powerful PCP's ever built.

Well??? Where the video showing me everything I need to know about it and how to improve upon what's already there? LOL! You're slacking my friend! :P
It's fast becoming one of my favorites too! I just need to sort out the current inconsistent velocity issue. I will say I have quickly become spoiled by the semi-auto action of this rifle. I was shooting one of my side levers the other day, would take a shot, line up the next, squeeze the trigger and then wonder why nothing happened!!! :o ;D :P

I installed the Huma Regulator today. Thus far, it doesn't seem much different, but it's a brand new regulator, so I guess time will tell. Before the install I ran two full magazines through it. Here's the before chrony numbers:

The top picture below is the groups, shot in 5 shot groups.
The tear down and install was pretty easy. I did a combo of Gregor's and Kelly's instructions, so I turned the power wheel all the way to zero (17 clicks), then removed the power wheel. I then removed the back plate off the breech, pulled the spring, replaced the back cover and squeezed the trigger. It took about 5 minutes for all the air to drain from the air cylinder. I pushed out the pin holding the stock, remobved it, then remove the front barrel band. I removed the small bolt from the linkage ar the rear of the rifle, removed the 3 screws securing the trigger and scope rail and slid it off. This it was just a matter of removing the one screw securing the air cylinder to the breech, give it a 45% turn and slid it out. From there, I just unscrewed the front and rear parts of the tube, removed the Huben Reg and replaced it with the Huma reg! Examining the Huben regulator, I was able to confirm it was the older version.
Reassembly was just as easy, just reverse the process. Once it was all back together, I filled it with air and apparently killed my Benjamin Recharge compressor in the process! It wouldn't fill past 3300 psi without going into a death wobble! Trying to top it off to 300 BAR with my Benjamin Traveler caused it to shut down do to it pulling more than 30 amps! It took letting it cool and starting over to get it to 300 BAR. Once filled I did another 2 full magazines over the chrony. The second picture below if the groups after the Huma reg was installed. Here's the after shot string over the chrony:

I do want to give a shout out to Randy for his help! I screwed up and shot 5 shots without flipping that little lever down. This cause the Huben to dump about 200 BAR of air and jammed the magazine up solid! I was able to get working again, and all seems fine now, it's just hard to shoot when you don't have a reliable way of filling it! In any event, had a great visit with Randy, and I sure do appreciate his support!

Looks like a definite improvement and should get better and better the more you shoot it. It was good to talk to you today too.

Much better consistency with the Huma.
-
Yep, I think once it settles in and the barrel settles in, it's going to be great with the 18.13 grain JSBs! Once I get may air source back, I'll be able to experiment a bit more with the power wheel and see how it shoots the 15.89 grain and the 25.4 grain pellets. Randy seems to think the 120 BAR reg setting will give me a pretty wide range of power to accommodate a wide rage of pellets, and maybe even some slugs. I just hope Crosman helps with the Compressor, after the Huben purchase, I can't afford to buy another. I'll be relying on the little chug-chuga compressor for now, and it doesn't like filling to 300 BAR!
-
Well all I have is my own little chugga-chugga so I am in same boat. Best of luck!

Humm RKR, I just measured my favorite hp. Mine! 1.96 mm. It would just fit! 8)
Paul, be careful. some have has problems when shooting at low pressure where the mag did rotate, but did not push the slug or pellet out ot the barrel. Unfortunately, they thought he gun misfired and tired again. The slugs were stuck in the barrel. GRRRRR! Actually returned the gun to get it cleared. (I think we could do it ourselves just fine) ;)

Thanks, I'm sure hoping so! I really thought about making a video, but then thought, Nah that your's job! LOL! The firing mechanism sure is intimidating with all the tiny internal parts, but otherwise it's not a bad gun to work on, Fit and finish are excellent, and it sure appears they used good quality parts when they built it.

I'm betting it would be a real pain to clear the barrel on this one! Fortunately, I thin is was more of a misfire and the pellet didn't fully seat in the chamber. After I aired it back up, I just fired it once, heard the damaged pellet go zinging off into the woods (completely missed the target) and then all worked without a hitch after that. At this point, the only real reason I have to lower the power is if I wanted to shoot lighter pellets, but previous testing seems to indicate I'd only need to drop the power a click or two.
-
I've had a few times where I shot with pressure too low, and had pellets stuck in barrel. It is a big pain, but they can be pushed back down, 1 at a time, into an empty magazine hole, and then can be extracted from the magazine, or just fired out, after airing up. A little squirt of Balistol, or something like, will help. I use a 1/4" steel rod, very carefully. ::)

Hey Steve, long time no see! You doing all right? Fortunately, when it dumped air, the pellet did not fully enter the chamber or barrel, so the magazine just locked up and stayed where it was. Once I aired it back up, it cleared it on the first shot and has functioned fine ever since.
-
Wow...the rats are for sure going to get a clobbering!
Congrats on the purchase!

A lot of my friends and myself agree 100%! We say this all the time. I can't go back to a rifle that I have to cock a lever to shoot.
