Huben K1 Initial thoughts...

The Huben K1 arrived yesterday with about 200 BAR in it.  It still had 3 CPHP's in the magazine.  The accompanying paperwork said it was tuned to low power for 14.3 grain pellets at around 835 FPS.  I'll be shooting 18 grain pellets, but with just 3 clicks on that power wheel and the 18 grains were shooting at an average 975 FPS and grouping nicely at 37 yards.  I put a .25 DonnyFL Tanto on it and it's still grouping just as nice and it is a little quieter.  More importantly, it's a little longer.  It wouldn't fit in any of the rest I had in the safe or the gun closet, but with the added length of the LDC, now it fits!  I put 3-4 full magazines (19 rounds each) through it and it dropped from 200 BAR to 110 BAR, which is what the regulator is set at. 

I'm not a fan of bullpups, but this one is different.  I guess it's because I don't have to worry about a cocking lever, just load and shoot!  It's about the same length as my Prod and doesn't weight much more.  Most of the weight is at the Butt end, so it really feels lighter than it is since your shoulder is supporting the majority of the weight.  It does shoulder well and is comfortable to shoot.

I did try some FX Hybrid slugs in it yesterday before it got too dark.  They didn't do bad.  I didn't change any setting and they were shooting at just over 900 fps.  I have some of the lighter NSA slugs (17 & 20 grain) that I might try.  So far those have not performed well in anything I have, so they have been sitting on a shelf.  It would be great if they worked well in the K1! 

I will say the larger .25 cal LDC does not appear to be messing with the groups.  I was happy to see the results because I really did not want to buy a .30 cal LDC for it.  POI did shift about ½" at 37 yards when I put it on, but the groups stayed the same. It's not a laser like my FX, so I have not seen any hole-in-hole shots yet, but they have been staying in about a ½" group and it still needs to settle in some.  I have high hopes!

I will say that trigger is amazing!  I would like to shorten the first stage to where it's maybe half the distance it is now, but otherwise, it feels great.  I can definitely get faster double taps with the K1 than I can with the SAM!

I filled it to 300 BAR after I finished shooting last night and when I checked the gauge this morning, it's holding air just fine.  I hope to get some more time behind the trigger today and will post some pictures and possibly a video later after having some fun!  So far, I am pleased with the results, this one may be a keeper!

I really wanted the SK-19 because of the full-auto, but just heard too many negatives with the trigger.  I do like how nice the trigger is on the K1.  Given my past history with semi-autos, I didn't have real high expectations, but thus far, this one has been a joy to shoot!

Congrats on one beautiful airgun Paul! Glad you enjoy the trigger, to me it was one important thing that distinguished it from the other semiautos I have tried.

Would Huben work as a bullet shooter, i.e. how long bullets fit in the magazine and how much power can you get from the gun in .22 caliber? If you say 1/2" and 100 fpe then I can see a Huben in my future ...

Well, this one is a pretty fast one!  Double taps are surprisingly quick and stay right on target!  Maybe I'll call it Chester, like the Cheetah!

I was definitely surprised by the trigger, in a very good way!  I didn't get a chance to shoot it yesterday, but now that the time has changed, I hope to have time this afternoon.

Good question, I'll measure the depth of the magazine later and see what it is.  It looks deeper than your average pellet magazine, .i.e. Crosman, FX, etc.

I measured the depth of the magazine at 10.98mm.  This is the .22, I don't know if the .25 is the same or possibly a little deeper.

Ahh, a bit too short for .22lr bullets and their copies. Still, better than usual 9mm length that's found on most magazines. Thanks! I have a vision of a semi-auto that would shoot around 0.14 BC .22 bullets at decent speed, I just haven't found one yet.

Maybe I'll give it a try, at this point, it sue wouldn't hurt!  LOL!  With the weather warning up, I felt pretty confident I'd start seeing more, but not a one since the one last month.

I knew it looked bigger than your typical magazine, too bad it couldn't have been just a tad longer.  It certainly seems to have ample power to shoot longer bullets!  Good luck with your search!

I got some trigger time with the K1 today. Some observations:

It don’t work under 100 BAR!  I was shooting, practicing my double taps when all of a sudden it started sounding like it does when you shoot it with an empty mag. But, there were still pellets in the mag. It just stopped advancing the magazine. I topped it off to 310 BAR and all was back to normal.

That power wheel just keeps spinning!!!  I was shooting 18.13 gr JSBs and increasing the power a click at a time. It hit around 1050 FPS and didn’t go any higher, even with another 4-5 clicks up!  So, after about 5-6 clicks the other direction, the velocity started to drop again. I stopped at just under 950 FPS, which seems to be the sweet spot for the 18.13 gr JSBs! 

I also tested some H&N .217 slugs. I’m not impressed!  Not surprisingly, the 25 grain slugs grouped the best. I tried weights of 21, 23, 25, 27, and 30 grins. This was with the same tune I had for the JSB Monsters shooting at 950 FPS. 

I also ordered one tin of the new .217, 25.39 JSB slugs. Maybe they will perform as good as the JSB 25.39 pellets, who knows. I already have the .217 and .218 NSA Samplers and also ordered a .216 Sampler. Once those arrive I’ll do a comparison or the 23 - 28 grain weights in each caliber to see which one performed the best.  The H&N Rabbit Magnum slugs were horrible, but I’m not surprised, I’ve yet to find a rifle that will shoot groups that don’t look like a shot gun blast with those.

Testing different pellets/slugs is a PITA!  I typically load 5 of each pellet in sequence when testing and then shoot 5 shots per target and record the velocity while seeing how they group. Without being able to remove the magazines, it’s a really cr@p shoot trying to figure out where the first pellet in the string is located in the magazine! 

I also double tapped a sparrow at 50 yards!  I didn’t record it because it was really just an impulse shot. The video probably would have been uneventful, it just seemed to disappear.  When I went to check it, there was just a pile of feathers!  I have no idea if I actually hit him once or twice!  But, it pretty much vaporized the poor thing! 

All in all it was a fun afternoon.

I'm betting .218 is going to be the way to go on those slugs.  Also, don't be afraid to give those slugs FULL BEANS   I generally shoot my .22 slugs in the 1000 fps range, even the 35 grain ones.  Some do best all the way up around 1050 fps.

Try Dale’s(VarmintKnocker) slugs. I have the .25 but guys with the .22 have reported good results with them.
