I bought a "new-to-me" Rifle yesterday... from cherokeesteve. It is in shipment at this moment. I am looking forward to this one. It should make a really nice backwoods hunter. I already have a 22cal. Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 so I knew full well what I was getting into. I also have 4 other Hatsans ..a 117cal. Vortex Striker/Edge Stock plus a 25cal. Vortex Edge. The other two Hatsan's are Both Spring Piston 85 Snipers. One is 25 Cal and the other is 117cal. I am anxious to see how well this one preforms in heavy snow & sub-zero temps. This one should do well on windy cold winter days.
Here are the details on this rifle that I bought, as per cherokeesteve's Classifieds Posting.
> 25 cal. Hatsan 125 TH Break Barrel - Camo Thumb Hole Stock with a Mossy Oak finish. Includes fiber optic open sights, butt plate spacers for adjusting length of pull. Vortex Scope plus Flashlight/Laser Attachments. Spring piston, not Vortex piston. Great power and accurate. No blemishes at all. A video was supplied of the rifle shooting through a chrony verifying velocity and accuracy.
Any input from fellow GTA Members & Hatsan 125th Owners or Hunters will be appreciated by me.
Best Wishes - Tom

I have a 125 spring piston in .22, also purchased from a fellow member. It responds well to a classic artillery hold, the trigger is good, and it is accurate with cheap pellets (Benjamin HP). It twangs pretty bad and has a pretty harsh shot cycle, but I expected that in a gun at this price with this much power. It generates about 27 FPE at the muzzle with 14.3 gr pellets, according to my cheap Chinese chrono.
The only thing that bothers me is the LOP, it's really long. I thought maybe the spacers were installed but as far as I can tell they aren't. I'm 6'0 with longer than average arms, and while the LOP is manageable it is a bit annoying, especially when switching between it and other airguns. It also makes it difficult to get proper scope relief without having to lean forward a bit, although I guess that could be easily solved with one of them fancy mounts. Come to think of it I guess the LOP depends on the stock too, mine is the normal synthetic, maybe the TH is better. The entire rifle is also very long and pretty darn heavy, but again I knew those things going in.
All in all I'm very happy with mine, I think you'll be happy with yours too.
-
Must be a "bought from a fellow member" thing because I have a Walther Talon Magnum .22 I got the same way. Same rifle as the 125 although I wish it was in .25 with a thumbhole stock but I may just fix that one of these days as it has more than enough power to spit .25 cal pellets easily.
Inch or less groups at 30 yards if I do my part, bit of a beast to cock and kicks pretty good but you already have that with the Benji so should be no problem. Looking forward to hearing more after you get your hands on it and do some shooting my friend :)
-
I have the Mod125th spring .25 in plain black. It is a BIG rifle, will give your arms a GOOD workout, and can BRUISE your cheek bone if you get too loose on the artillery hold. At 30 fpe it can turn pine boards into toothpicks and meat into hamburger. It is a serious THUMPER for a springer and I have always have a lot of fun shooting mine. I think you will really enjoy shooting this rifle.

Hi Adam..thank you for your reply.
The Hatsan 25cal.125 TH arrived today. Thanks to Cherokeesteve, it was in great shape. I am busy with yard work today but I managed to get off a few shots with it in the back yard. I was shooting some Benjamin pellets that I had opened. I was shooting off-hand at a distance of about 40 yards. I had put the supplied scope on but I have not fine tuned the zero yet. All the shots were hitting in about an inch and 1/2 area. The weight and the cocking were fine and the recoil was not bad either. I think this rifle is going to work out great.

Hi Steve...thank you for your reply. The Hatsan 25cal 125 TH arrived today. The rifle looks like a new gun. I took some off-hand shots with it and it shoots great. I am busy with yard work today so I haven't done much with it yet. I think this one is going to work out great. The cocking and weight were fine and the recoil was not bad either.
I like your Walther Talon Magnum Rifle ! ;) Nice Looking Rifle Steve. ;)

Hi Mickey ! Thank you for your reply. This rifle arrived by Fedex today along with a replacement camo stock for my 85 Sniper.
This gun is not any bigger than my 22cal Benjamin NP XL 1100. I was able to field and shoot the Hatsan 125 TH today, off-hand with out any noticeable problems. The cocking and weight were just fine. I did not think that the recoil was that bad either.
You are right...I am going to enjoy this rifle and I think it will work out great as a windy day winter hunter. The rifle is light enough that I should not have any trouble shooting it while wearing snowshoes or cross-country skis either.

Super glad everything arrived in good condition. I mistakenly called the scope a Vortex when it is an Optima scope, Hatsan brand and came with the rifle. It is by no means a great scope but one thing I will say about it is that it has stood up to the recoil of the springer. My Hatsan Supercharger pistol has managed to destroy a scope and a red dot sight. Glad you were able to get some pellets through it today. Look forward to reading some successful hunting stories from you come autumn!

I spent most of the day working in the yard. I had to move 10 yards of dirt today by hand so I was pretty tired when I got done at 6:30 PM.
I decided to try shooting the New Rifle afterward. I set up a Birchwood Casey 44 Mag spinner at the base of an old oak tree and paced off the distance back to my garage door and into the garage. It came out to about 50 yards. I chose a tin of Benjamin 27.8 Gr. domed pellets.
The upper spinner measures 3 inches and the lower spinner measures 5 inches. The upper spinner shots were from a standing position with the rifle rested in the V formed between thumb and fingers and my out stretched palm resting on the door frame. . The arm was braced on the door frame. The lower spinner was shot standing off-hand and unsupported. I shot maybe 50 or 60 shots consecutively. I have not sighted in the scope but it was fairly close anyway. I am stoked ! I think this gun is Great ! I can't wait until hunting season next fall. I am expecting good things with this rifle. The 44 mag spinner is made with 3/8 inch thick plate steel and is fairly heavy duty. This rifle hits it with authority and can move the spinner fairly well. This gun has some power. When I get the chance I am going to stretch things out and really see just what this gun can do at a greater distance than this. ;)

Thank You Steve for your reply. This rifle is Really Nice ! You took great care of it.
I'll be sure and post hunting pictures with this rifle as soon as hunting season rolls around.
I was surprised to how well the gun was sighted in. I haven't done anything with the scope yet I just put it on after I received the rifle from you. It was shooting, pretty much, right on the money. The trigger setting was good too. Once I get some of this spring yard work done around my place I'll be taking this rifle out in the woods for a shake down run. This rifle shoots great.
Thank you for everything Steve ! I really like this rifle !

Tom,
Congrats on your new rifle... sure sounds like you have a winner there.
That was some very good distance shooting with it rested ‘off hand’.
Looking forward to your hunting results with it. :D

I pegged a ground squirrel with it a few days ago at about 42 yards. The squirrel was digging holes in my back yard...big time.
I just knelt down, in my garage, and took the shot with one knee up and the elbow of my forward off-hand, braced on the up knee.
Me and that Hatsan are getting to know each other real well. ;)

Tom,
That was good shooting for sure. I think you and your new rifle were made for each other!
It’s going to be quite a thumper on those tree squirrels this fall! :D :D
Sounds like they’re not going to stand much of a chance. :o

cherokeesteve took Fantastic care of this rifle. It was hard to tell that it was not new....it's better than new actually.
I really like the Hatsan 125. This gun was right down my alley. Yes it packs quite a thump for a break barrel.
The squirrels won't have any chance at all...provided they get hit with it.
The accuracy of this gun will depend on ME doing my part in shooting it.
The rifle is accurate enough...I just have to shoot it like it needs to be shot.

I did a little more shooting with this rifle a few days ago. I was shooting Benjamin 27.8 Gr Domed Pellets. I placed a target box out in the woods behind my house. The range was approximately 62 yards. ( I paced it off over rough ground) I lost track of the exact number of shots that I took. I was sitting on the floor of my garage. I was shooting out the back walk-out door of the garage. My forward off-hand palm was braced on the vertical left side of the door jam. The rifle's fore-stock was resting in the V formed between by fingers and thumb of my off-hand's outstretched palm. All of the shots hit the box but 3 were off of the shoot & see target. It was a little windy but not to bad.

Yup.......I just got back in from shooting it. I was picking out saplings and dead tree branches outback in the woods and taking pot shots at them. ;)
Who needs a chainsaw when a fella has one of these....right ? ;D
The Pellets were 25 Cal. Benjamin 27.8 Gr Domes. The Range was somewhere beyond 50 yards. Ten to 12 shots with four hits on a 2 to 3 inch oak branch with about a maximum spread of 3 inches to the total shot group, I would say. The hit to the left was a slight shooting error by me. The oak wood branch was dead and very hard. The shots knocked the moss off but did not penetrate the oak.
If you look above and beyond the blaze orange trail tape that is in the left center on the Middle picture you can locate the log that I was shooting at. You will have to enlarge the image to do it though. The log is laying horizontal on the ground out there. You will see the tape then a up-right tree then the log. The log has a branch that is sticking straight up about 2 1/2 or 3 feet in the air. It is out there aways.

Yesterday I fed some straying Backyard Beasties a little lead from my "new to me" 25 Cal. Hatsan 125. :o :o :o :o
There was great devastation, out back, at the tree line, and there was blood on the forest floor. :o :o :o :o
I did not take any pictures of my deed..... soooo......I guess... it just did not happen......RIGHT ? ;) ;) ;) ;)

Buddy
Right now I have a cheap Center Point 2x Pistol scope on it. It has a lot of eye relief..about 20 inches.
I have the scope mounted in a Scout Scope fashion in front of the breach area.
I plan on eventually getting a 4x scope that has long eye relief and mounting it in the same way.
I'll have and wait and save up for that. Having recently bought the 25cal Hatsan 125th, my "air rifle funds" are depleted at present.
I am retired and living on social security. I have 16 guns to outfit and not enough money.
I really should sell many of my guns and get it down to 2 or 3 .......but I like them All & have a specific hunting use for each one. :-\

Lol, it’s taken 2 ex wives and one “ very quick” annulment for me to come to that same conclusion :o.
On the other hand, I do want at least “one more” airgun? ::)

I Had the Hatsan 125 TH .25 Cal. out shooting today, in-between the reoccuring thunderstorms this afternoon. It was about 5:30 PM when I did this specific group of shooting. I waited until the wind died down before I shot these groups. I have started to zero-check all my hunting rifles, so as to be ready for the up-coming fall hunting season, starting in mid Sept.. I was shooting .25 Cal. Benjamin 28.7 Grain Destroyers and Domes. The Distance to the target was between 40 and 46 yards as paced over rough ground. The ground dips and heaves so the straight line distance is probably closer to 40 yards so I just call it 40 yards for this post. I knew from past shooting of this rifle that the scope needed just a little tweaking. I did that to day and then took these pictures. When I shot these groups I was seated just inside the doorway of my backyard walk-thru garage door. My forward off-hand was braced on the door frame and my rifles fore stock was resting in the Vee formed between my thumb and fingers.
The Off-Hand shots were taken while standing just inside the doorway. My off-hand elbow was braced on my side and the rifle was resting in my open palm between my thumb and fingers. Surprisingly enough, this .25 Cal. Hatsan 125 rifle is not too bad as an off-hand shooter.
I have a 2 inch spinner set out at 28 yards that is mounted into a 2x6x10 board for stability. When I would shoot the spinner... the spinner would do a 360 degree spin and the spinner would be tipped over and pushed back about 4 inches or so. My other rifles won't strike that hard. The .22 Cal. Benjamin Trail NP Xl 1100 comes pretty close to doing a 360 spin and the Crosman Summit Ranger NP2 will knock the spinner back a full 90 degrees. None of the other rifles will spin it 360 degrees while typing it over and backward

I also like shooting metal spinners to get a rough idea of how much power my airguns deliver down range.
My .25 cal Hatsan dominators, which are the lowest powered .25 cals I have, will make the spinners spin at least 4 times around.
In comparison, my .22 cal HW 97kt will spin it about 3 times.
My .25 cal Beeman Kodiak, uh, I wasn't able to count but its at least 5 spins. It was ridiculous.
All of this is at 25m roughly.
-
Tom, your too modest lol,
I’ve read your posts and have seen your targets for quite a while now. From what i’ve Seen.... when you grab one of your springers and start shooting... those stars just start lining up all on their own! :o
You’ve just about inspired me to try a springer for hunting... mine are all pumpers for now. Time to give something else a try!
Good hunting this year! :D

Tim.....Thank You for your reply.
The spinner in the picture is one that is made for a 22 Mag PB. It is fairly robust, about 1/4 inch thick, and is hard for an airgun to spin.
Another one that I have is a Birchwood Casey 44 Mag Double. That one is super robust, about 1/2 inch thick and none of the airguns can spin it. If an airgun can deflect it at all, it is striking it very hard. Usually... all I hear is a little " tinkle " when a lower powered air gun strikes it with a pellet.
I do have one set of resettable spinners the are made for an airgun. My grandson is using it for his airsoft pistol to shoot at right now.
I am afraid that the more powerful rifles that I have would destroy it. All I have ever shot it with is my 1377 pistol and that one will dent it some. It is pretty thin and made with a soft steel. The other spinner targets are thicker and harder The 44 Mag spinner is made from ballistic armor plate.
I also have a berm that I can shoot into. It is constructed from downed tree material that is cut into logs. The logs are covered with sand and the sand is covered with mulch made from chipped tree limbs. That is covered with brush and branches that is topped by leaf and grass clippings. Again more brush and branches are piled on top of all of this. In front of this berm I have another berm of leaf and grass clippings. The whole thing is about 4 feet high X 30 Feet long and 8 Feet thick. I have never had a ricochet from that berm nor have I had any from the spinners.
I also have a few other smaller berms set up at different distances going out into the woods behind my house. They are staged at different distances going out to around 100 yards. Usually they can't be see because the woods are so thick with understory growth and such.
In the picture with the target in it there is one of the smaller berms directly behind it but it is very hard to make out with everything else out their.

Buddy.......Thank You for your reply and your kind words sir.
I don't just hunt with springers....I hunt with pumpers too. The .20 Cal. Vintage Sheridan Multi-Pump rifle that I have, is great for hunting.
So is my .117. Cal. Crosman 2100 Rifle. If I had a .117 Cal. Daisy 880, I'd hunt with that too.
A lot of Folks have trouble shooting springers accurately. Unfortunately springers are just not for everyone, I guess.
I shoot springers OK.......and some days are better than others.
There other others here in the Forum that are much better shots than I am.
I have made my best shots while I was hunting.
Have you seen some of the shots that the Egyptian sniper made in the Hunting Gate ?
He can shoot 100 yards plus....... on Doves !
Now THAT is some Great Shooting with a springer.
Best Wishes - Tom

Yeah, my spinners are those Crosman spinners you can find in the big-box stores. Not nearly as heavy as the ones you are using.
I find spinners to be useful as much as they are fun to shoot.

Hi Tom,
A bit late, but welcome to the owners of TH125s. Winter here in Australia is slowly becoming Spring. Time to start looking for Rabbits, Foxes and pest birds in the orchards.
And break out "Big Bertha". They certainly have some power. Mine is in .22. It spits out 15.42 Gamo Expander pellets at an average of 881 fps . that's enough to smash both shoulders and exit the other side of a full grown Rabbit at 30 yards. ( got a good Chrono for Christmas from my sons). Good hunting and it looks like you are set for a heap of fun.

Me too Tim !
I have a couple set out in the backyard. One at 25 yards and the other at 31 yards. That is the parameters that I typically hunt in, out in the Woods. That is the "Honey Zone" for me. ;D

What pellets do you think shoot best in this beast?
Hi John !
The 25 cal. pellets that I have on hand are Benjamin, Hatsan Vortex Supreme & H&N.
I have been hunting this year with the Benjamin 27.8 Gr. domed pellets.
So far, they have been working well at ranges out to 35 yards.
I haven't tried the others out in this rifle yet.
Best Wishes - Tom
