I took this gun out the other day & gave it a visual once over. I’m not sure why but I never noticed how pristine this gun is so I wanted to share a few pix. It was an eBay purchase so knock on wood.
For some reason or other the 392PA’s & 397PA’s seem to take a back seat to the “P’s” but what makes these models unique is they maintained the same “old” or “P Style” trigger & the same soldered valve through ’97. Sometime in ‘97 Crossman introduced the “Trigger Pack” or “Trigger Group” which are most noticeable by a “Cross-bolt Safety” next to the trigger. Another noticeable difference is that walnut was used through ’97 which was no longer used after ’98.
This “PA” also holds its own out on the range next to the “P’s” with avg. FPS of 642 & an avg. 13.9 FPE, & is just as accurate.

I am in love with that rifle ;D That is a thing of pulchritude, sir!

That's a beautiful rifle! I don't see any difference between your rifle and my '94 397P, which is in very similar condition. I absolutely love it. Beautiful wood, fabulous trigger, and very accurate with the Williams peep sight. It's a keeper, for sure! ;D

I agree, those 397's are as good as it gets in a .177 pumper.
Thank you Steve.

So this is a new find? Way to go Marty! I'd say that "PA" version is exactly the same as the "P" versions.
Might even be (or will become) more valuable because they are unlike the "PA" versions to come just a little later, making these some really rare guns.
Are you going to get a Sheridan hand guard for it?

No it isn’t a new find. I’ve had it for a couple of years just never paid that much attention to it til now. For some reason or other I always considered him the blue sheep of the family, taking a back seat to my other 392P’s & Dan’s. After looking him over a little closer he’s risen in the ranks as one of the best pumpers I have. Everything about him looks brand new right down to the blued/ painted barrel. It looks so fresh you can almost smell it. ;)
Thanks Randy.

Huh, I usually avoided PA listings... Thought the Cast trigger group, Cross-bolt safety was what made the "PA" verses the "P". Since I already have a modern 392
Thanks for the awakening Marty.

No problem Scott. I try to stay asucated on all my pumpers. ;)

That's a beautiful gun for sure, and one to pass down to your grandkids! They don't get any better than that.

Thanks for the compliment Bryan.
To those....threads run much more on course when complements are paid instead of sarcasm. Like undesirable words it should be avoided at all costs because it only serves to open the door to more sarcasm.

Just curious; can someone tell me why one of my ’91 S392P’s has the brass trigger housing & the other is black?

Sure ;)
In your picture there. the middle 392 is a really early one. The earliest ones had some differences - mostly very small things that I guess Benjamin decided they wanted to change. some other differences are the receiver is a larger diameter - and the front part of the receiver is longer. Also, you probably noticed that on that gun, the bolt doesn't turn all the way down when closed. As to WHY its black. who knows. its just the way they started out. Its still brass though right? they probably realized there was nothing to be gained by blackening that piece of brass. If its not brass, then they probably realized it would be better to make that piece out of brass.
Also, one slight correction to your first post in this thread :)
the change from the soldered valve to the cartridge valve took place in 1995 not 1997. You can see in your image that difference in the spacing of the stock bolt nut on your '96. That one has the cartridge valve. You were correct though that the switch to the trigger pack happened in 1997. The name change from P to PA 'more or less' coincides with the valve change.
