Well as some of you probably already know I had to do some tinkering with this gun right out of the box to get it right. All in all I'm really liking the gun even though there was some bad assembly from the factory in the trigger mecha. The lever on mine right now is very smooth after close to 100 shots. I think this gun is going to be good for medium sized game up to 50 yards after I eventually turn the regulator up.
All in all I feel as though I bought a winner, time will tell for sure. Basically these guns are fresh on the market anyway here in the U.S. and I haven't really seen anything about them on youtube as far as anyone shooting one. Well hopefully by this weekend I'll be out in the woods with it, my scope rings and more pellets will be here Friday for a possible maiden voyage on Saturday ;)

Looks great Wayne looking like some good performance and power out of it. Hope the accuracy is just as nice
-
Thanks Dillon I think I got a winner even though there's probably a lot of people that wouldn't feel the same. After all it is an early one, I'm sure there's going to be some changes in the next several months on them.
-
Looking good so far, Wayne. I'd be tickled pink with that performance, especially with so few pellets down the craw. Are those JSB 18s the only thing you've stuffed in the breech yet? Or are more flavors gonna be sampled?
-
Looking good Wayne.
Have you done a full fill yet? I can see SPA used a pressure gauge with green zones for a lower fill pressure. With a full 250bar fill, the gauge will be in the middle of the red....
Edit:
Need more coffee, after reading your post again, you have not done a full fill yet :-[
-
I haven't been able to do a full fill with it yet, my tank don't have enough air right now, I'll get one of my tanks filled this afternoon probably. Actually I see that now that the top of the green on the guage is 220bar and yest the 250bar point is where it's good for. Wow I will be able to get a lot of shots from this gun, wwwwaaaaaayyyyy more then I really need for hunting :D
-
Wayne, great looking shot string. It's looks like you got another winner. I am very impressed with your MKII data, with out any mods, so it looks like the M-16 is following track.
It looks very promising. Bob

I was going through some airgun stuff last night and ran across a scope that I completely forgot I had, well needless to say I mounted it on my Dominator using some 11mm adaptors I also found that were still in the packaging yet too. It looks like I'll be jumping the gun a little compared to what I had planned so I'll be out in the woods with it today. I'll be using the JSB 18.13's in it today, I'm hoping someone opens theirs up soon so I can find out just what kind of a job it's going to be to adjust the regulator on this gun, I'd really like getting the power up to 40fpe or more if I can. I've got some heavy pellets coming soon.

I only managed to get the gauge up to 200bar this fill but that will be more than enough shots for what I need 8)

-
I'm sure I will Keith !!! I've got a mystery package coming today too, I think it might be my pellets but won't know for sure til it gets here.
I made an order last week from Pyramid Air for pellets and scope rings, they didn't have everything at PA so I've got something coming
today and something coming tomorrow, what I've got coming today is from PA and what's coming tomorrow is from Airgun Depot.
-
Sure looks nice Wayne, Congrats!
-
Thanks Dave !!! In about half an hour it will be light enough out that I can sight the thing in, I've got the windage pretty close already but the elevation I'm sure will be off.
After that I'll be off to the woods with it to really see how it's going to do. I'm thinking it's going to be good though, it's not quite as light as my Varmint but it's way
lighter than Mrod by far.
-
I'm anxious to see how many shots you get on a complete fill. How high can you fill to?
-

Right now it's regulated so close to 30fpe you might as well call it a 30fpe gun with the JSB 18.13's and there's no doubt it'll do over 60 shots on a complete fill. With that 44 shot string I started at 210 bar and stopped at 100 bar and I still hadn't fallen of the regulator yet.
Dang rain is going to hold me off for a while but I probably can sight it in now.
-
I did a 20yd sight in from my window sill the six shots on the left were sighting it in and on the right you can see 5 shots that the inherently accurate barrels of the SPA guns holds true to this one as well.

That looks good. Hopefully I get similar groups.
-
Wayne, How many CC is the Air tube?
-
I think it's 210cc Todd.
-
Wayne, that gun is junk. I will "dispose" of it for you. :D
Yeah, that didn't work on anybody else, either. Looks like you got another typical SPA barrel. I'm willing to bet that if the chippers weren't terrified of you before, they will be now ;)
-
Looking good Wayne, now everyone will want your junk gun... ;D
I tried some different pellets in my .25 cal Dominator this afternoon with interesting results. The AA 25.39 pellets were one ragged hole at 35 yards which I had already tested. I tried some 31 gn Grizzly pellets and they did not shot very well, then moved to H&N Baracuda and was back to one ragged hole at 35 yards. Finally tried Crosman 27.8 gn pellets and they looked like a shotgun pattern. I did not change the scope settings from zero with the AA 25.39, and interestingly enough the 31 gn Cudas POI was the same as the AA at 35 yards. Shooting the Cudas the rifle was producing right at 40 ft lbs, so I know it is capable of what you are looking for.
I am looking to get a minimum of 50 ft lbs out of mine, so like you, waiting on more regulator information. I have done full fills with my Dominator but the bigger lead holds me to about 3 1/2 9 shot mags before it falls off the regulator.
-
Wow!!! Far nicer than I would have thought. Impressive!
this gun is screaming for a side lever.
Anyone know the difference in weight between the tube and bottle gun?
Congrats on a fine shooter. ;) 8)

OH NO!!! I just went to the Site and it IS a Side Lever!

Mike there's no doubt in my mind that this gun will be good at 100 yards for sure once I get the power up on the reg. It's very likely this gun will like shooting slugs too because the barrel isn't choked and the SPA barrels in my experience with them so far are all fantastic barrels. I think it's basically getting more velocity that'll do the trick. I ain't really worried about shot count, as long as I can get a couple mags worth of shots when I'm out hunting I'll be happy 8)
-
I wouldn't expect too many changes coming out of China on these. They have more of a "set it and forget it" culture. They're probably on to the "next best" new thing by now.

Knife,
My bottled Airmax Dominator MKII weighs in at 6.53 pounds without the supplied LDC.
With the supplied LDC it is 6.71 pounds.
No scope, no magazine. Just the rifle itself.
-
LOL.
More SPAddicts in the making. Or is it SPAnatics?
Power, accuracy, light-weight, inexpensive, well-made. Am I missing something?

Well then, even SPA screwed the pooch on this one. The specs for the M16A on the Artemis website put weight at 2.5kg or 5.5lb....
They were much closer with the M16 at 3kg or 6.6lb. Mine came in at 6.4oz without LDC.
Mike should up date his website, 5lb is not even in the ball park.....

I agree. One of the selling points of the rifle is how light it is. If it doesn't really weigh 5lbs then dangit the description shouldn't say it does. It is glaring discrepancies like this that make me wonder about the integrity of some vendors, and frankly makes me very hesitant to buy from them or recommend them to others.
-
Unfortunately, many examples exist making your hesitation valid.
Three reasons I bought the M16. Advertised weight, regulated, side lever cocking. Only two of the three were true.
I will say, I wasn't blind to the weight discrepancy. Several sites, including artemis had the weight at 3kg. I knew it was a toss up as to what weight was correct, purchased anyway. I was just hoping Mike got it right.....
-
Not sure what the vendor(s) could have done guys.
These are new, never seen before.
SPA releases specs and we posted them.
Any who called or emailed about more specs on our website were simply told we had "factory specs" but they rarely match up with real world numbers.
Weight, is usually not one of the specs they miss, but here we are.
No way to know, until they got here so I learned at the same time you all did.
Obvious, as other vendors had the same specs.
No doubt they can now be corrected.
This is one of the many reasons I only brought in a few to start with.
Could have been a train wreck.
Costs us all a bit extra to be the first.
In Europe, these started at 800 bucks USD, until the other dealers like me got their orders in.
I also knew the 25 would be popular and waited an additional 3-4 weeks to include those.
Then, after the second shipments vendors received, more can be ordered, streamlined and the cost is less in the simple fact that shipping together with larger containers costs much much less.
ALOT more to this than you would think.
Overall, very happy with the accuracy, fit and finish/build quality ect, but there is room for improvement.
Loose fasteners, reg adjustments, spring tension and the small things can all be reported and changed in future orders as long as we point them out.
I've asked for any issues to be brought to my attention, so if you have issues, even small ones, please snap a picture and email them to me.
We want to get another and much larger order on the way as soon as possible, but it is very important to have any and all issues no matter how small reported to the manufacturer.
Thanks to those who have.
-
Hey Mike, do you have any information yet on adjusting the regulators for the M16?
-
Mike I'll email you a pic using the exploded view and explain which parts were loose in my trigger assembly. Today I tried some longer shots with mine using the JSB 18.13's and I was very impressed of the accuaracy at longer distances, this gun is a real shooter. Just put 5 JSB 25.35's through it a little while ago (got them from UPS today) and got 30-31fpe from them. I know these will do much better with a little more push.

Yes but...
The inaccurate weight is still listed on your website (as of 10:08 PM EST).
And no offense, but the sales hype on your website like "Award Winning Service" (what award has your service won?) does not instill confidence. It gives your site the feel of a used car lot. I'm sure you work hard and want the best for your customers but there is no need for hype. Just keep it straight, keep it simple and honest. Provide great products, communication and service and word will spread and you will thrive, which we would all like to see you do.

WHERE do I find the specs (weights, fps., dimensions, etc.) for the Dominator and P-15 bullpup on mrodair's site? ??? All I can find are pics of them and pricing. Thanks!

That is great,
If your gun likes the Baracuda that is a great pellet,.....900 fps will give you the 50 FPE you looking for and that is a great combo,.....
also if she likes the Baracuda she should like the Baracuda Hunter too and that will give you the option when wanting to use hollowpoints for different type game.

Amazing shot string Wayne! Decent power too. I feel sorry for the critters. You can shoot 44 of them now on one hunting trip. Be careful not to run out of live targets to shoot :)
How effective is the LDC? Is it as effective a Disco with a TKO (which is pretty quiet)?
Harry

Harry the LDC is louder than the Rocker1's and TKO's, it's right on the borderline of being backyard friendly, I'd like something quieter but for now it's going to be fine IMO, maybe eventually I'll get a better one.

It's award winning service to only the people whom he likes. You'll see that as you read through the postings.
Business model is built around selling, not service after the sales.
If you return your purchase unused, box never over, you "might" get 100% of your money back......minus the shipping which is expected.

If this rifle is advertised at 5 lbs but weighs 6.4, has anyone confirmed the very low advertised weight of a p15 @ 4.6 lbs?
My custom Marauder is 4.8 lbs, and is a fully functional .25 caliber 19.5" barreled rifle. The thought of a 500$ rifle coming close to my weight amazes me but at the same time I have remained doubtful the weights were accurate knowing the extent of work I did to reduce all the weight on mine.

the obsession with 5-6 lb guns makes me laugh. light guns very hard to hold steady. I am 65 and walk almost all day with over 9lb PB. that is what slings are for. the Romans would march 25 miles a day with more then 40 lbs half of that tent poles etc. then dig trenches around the camp site and build a small city just for overnight. remains of these are still found. civil war guys average weight 140 lbs did the same. man up a little guys walking a couple of 100 yds to shoot a few squirrels then sitting most of the day with a 7- 8lb rifle will not kill you lol
-
Vince right now it's kind of a toss up weather or not I'll get a sling for it, my Marauder requires one, especially if I want to walk a long way with it but with the Dominator it really wouldn't be a problem for me.

Most guys like us 6' tall 200+lb men are fine w/ an extra pound or two. My rifles (see sig) weigh between 8.5lbs and 9.9lbs with my favorite being the Impact and the heaviest. My PB hunting rifle used to be an AR10, but after a season of climbing in and out of stands I 'downgraded' to a Winchester Model 88 which weighs scoped and loaded right at 8.5lbs ready to shoot, if I remember right, the AR10 was around 11.5 or 12lbs. And it makes a big difference. Not so much carrying it, but climbing in and out of those tree stands and trying not to make a bunch of noise.
And for some little 110 lb girl it might be a whole different story. That two pounds could be significant. A smaller lighter rifle could make or break the experience. It's too bad these aren't really 5lbs. I can see setting one up for wifey (5'2" & 110lbs) and her actually liking it. I can say for sure if I'd bought one for her thinking it were 5lbs and having it come out nearly two pounds heavier I would be returning it as it's just not suitable for the application.
Some folks won't care, others will. IMHO they would have every right to as well.
-
Robin it's funny most all my airguns I normally carry with one hand when I'm going somewhere relocating, airguns have spoiled me that way, my Mrod is a bit much with one hand but my Dominator I'm finding myself carrying it with one and but after a while I have to use two hands. I remember the the days carrying my Remington Zouave way back in the swamps, and dragging a dear a half mile along with my rifle, it would wear on me now but I could do it if I had to.
-
HaHa Vince, I to am 65 years old and I walked 7.5 miles on today's hunt (per the gps I carry). What I have found is the heavier the gun, the less I just enjoy the hunt. It's not that I can't do what the Romans did, just that a 8 lb fully outfitted rifle lets me enjoy myself more that a 10 lb fully outfitted rifle during those last couple of miles back to the truck... :D
The P12 is about 9 lbs, the M16 about 8 lbs, and the M10 about 10 lbs. Those extra couple lbs didn't bother me too much when I was 55, but I sure notice them more at 65..
-
I'd bet you found very few 60 something Roman soldiers alive back then.
-
I basically retired from my regular job when I was 59 1/2 (as soon as I could get my pension), at the time I was 270lbs, and took up metal detecting in the woods mostly for my full time job after that. That gut that I had went away in a hurry and I've been about 220 ever since. I sure ain't got the muscle like I did at one time but I'll be 65 in Dec and I sure feel completely different now than when I was 55. Age catches up with us all, I am trying to stick with the use it or loose it theory and so far so good.

I agree a 12lb AR 10 is for the bench I have one that is 10lbs with a small scope with a sling not bad for shorter walks. the thing with light guns that are hard to hold steady is that to get a good one that is light drives the cost high being expensive metals have to be used.
-
I'd bet you found very few 60 something Roman soldiers alive back then.
LOL average life expectancy in Roman times was like 45 for everyone so that don't mean much. but a lot of Roman emperors that were soldiers then commanders lived past 60. I remember seeing many 80-90 year old civil war vets who almost matched the Romans in videos hobbling along in memorial day parades and I have saw countless hard working people for the last 50 years outlast those who never did any hard work

that is great you lost that weight and feel as good as you can for 65 that is my age also. worked 50 years framing houses roofing and concrete work and I can still do around half of what I had done

yes a 10lb rifle when you walk that much is a pain to carry at 65 a sling helps a lot. what kind of hunting do you do with a PCP where you walk that far? sounds like an elk hunt lol
-
HaHa, no Elk, but I do see many deer, bobcats, pigs, yotes, occational pole cat, squirrels, doves... a plethora of small and medium game. It is still not legal to hunt deer in GA with an airgun but pigs and yotes are ok and all small game. The area I hunt is a 14,000+ acre WMA about 17 miles north of my home and it is overrun with old logging trails. I like to move constantly (mostly for the exercise) and stalk hunt primarily. I used to do up to 12 miles on a daily hunt with a Hatsan BT65 (12+ lbs) plus a small pack and that was brutal, but I can't carry that much weight more than a couple miles any more and still have fun. The P12 is great on these type hunts (yes I do have a sling on all my rifles) and the Dominator will be even better if I can get the power up to where I want it.

These kind of remarks make me fall out of my seat. I could not for the life of me shoot off hand while shooting standing with the stock marauder at 7.3 lbs / 9.3 lbs scoped, my rifle is now 4.8 lbs / 6.8 scoped and I can shoot within a dime while standing up. The old marauder @ 7.3 lbs stock is purely a bench rest rifle, and is well known by the community as such.
You're 65 and speak to others this way? Sigh. I take 5 mile+ hikes through 6-8k elevations in the mountains while carrying tons of gear, every lb I can save only makes the hobby more enjoyable.
You're right though, a 7-8 lb (which I have now, scoped) rifle will not kill me, but my old 10 lb rifle did!
I for one am glad a lot of the newer air guns coming out are shaving/saving weight! Streamline = 6.3#, Dominator = 6#~, p15 = 4-5#, and many people are jumping at them and a good amount of people do it for the weight!

-Matt
the obsession with 5-6 lb guns makes me laugh. light guns very hard to hold steady.

I knew when I made that remark I would get a pile of guys that walk many miles with heavy gear in their sixties lol. if you can hold a light rifle offhand and shoot it better then a heavier rifle go against everything I have saw and all the offhand Olympic match shooters with 10lb + pellet and 22 rifles. if it was easier to shoot a light rifle offhand I am sure they would be using them

The P12 is great on these type hunts (yes I do have a sling on all my rifles) and the Dominator will be even better if I can get the power up to where I want it.
have you killed any pigs with a PCP? which one did you use? yes the BT 65 is real heavy

yes the last mile is always brutal even when young. when I was on horses some were lazy until they saw the barn sometimes more then a mile away and they would speed up knowing they were to eat and rest . the opposite of what hunters do

Hey Wayne. Thanks for sharing.
Did you ever turn up the regulator or try shooting unregulated? If so, how much more fps?
Can you offer some pros & cons with your experience of this airgun so far?
Is that the Unbottled version in .22? If so, what is the tank size? Is it Aluminum or Titanium?
My son is looking into buying one of these, but It's hard to get much information from Mike at Mrodair. He's likely very busy, but it would help if they posted the basic specs like fps, shots per fill, and correct weight. He's trying to decide between this or the P15, but doesn't have the time to review forums.
From what I've read, it will need a better regulator, stronger hammer spring, more effective moderator, and superglue (lol). What else do you imagine it will need.
My son wants something very light with a magazine that'll shoot 875 to 950 fps. Do you think the P15 might be better, or is that one experiencing just as many issues?
If the P12 was a multishot and lighter, he'd probably love it.
Would love your thoughts. Thanks much!

Steve,
Is yours the un-bottled version? If so, what fps numbers are you getting in .25 cal?
Have you turned up the regulator or are you using the stock setting?
Take a look at the questions I had for Wayne on my prior post to this thread. Should be just above this one. I'm really glad to have you & Wayne to chat with about this. You are both very friendly & helpful.
Thanks much, Tom

Knife,
My bottled Airmax Dominator MKII weighs in at 6.53 pounds without the supplied LDC.
With the supplied LDC it is 6.71 pounds.
No scope, no magazine. Just the rifle itself.
John,
Thanks for those numbers. Is the M16A the one without the bottle and the M16 the Mark II in your comments?
I asked Mike a very specific & direct question on the weight numbers for the Dominator and the P15 and he gave me a very vague & indirect response...(Sept 8th) he said, "Both are much lighter than advertised, but haven't put the bare gun on the scales"
Does anybody know how much does the M16A (non-bottled version) really weighs? My son wants a very lightweight airgun. Not that 6.4 is heavy, but he's trying to compare Dominator M16A with the P15 feature by feature. Not an easy task.
Do you think that Mike keeps things vague so that there will be a lot of chatter in the forums? If so, Its kind of genius, but unprofessional. It's also a two edged sword when problems with the product are discussed. It is always best to under-sell & over-deliver than to over-sell and un-deliver. It is the later that kills the sale as well as any repeat/referral business that comes from exceeding a customer's expectations.
My son doesn't have time to research what could easily be provided because most of his time is spent working.
-
Hey Mike, do you have any information yet on adjusting the regulators for the M16?
Did he ever respond to you?
I take it that there are no instructions that come with the airgun. Same is likely true on the P 15.
Did you get any instructions at all?
-
Tom,
Austin, said his dominator MKII aka M16A (bottle gun) weighed 6.53lb without LDC, 6.71 with.
My dominator aka M16(no bottle) came in at 6.4lb without LDC.
These are bare gun weights.
You get an instruction manual. VERY basic, tells you how to load/insert the mag. How to use the safety. How to use the fill probe... that's about it.
No adjustments of any kind are even mentioned.

Yes, Yes I have. 8) With a 15 lb. .257 custom shooting 80 gr hp's at a grand.
Since a rather serious back surgery, I'm not allowed to even lift it yet. Grrrrr!!!! Getting bored for sure. But the much less manly Maximus is getting it done with the tree rats and vermin around here just fine! ;) Even though the scope weighs over 2 lbs. and the night light is another lb. Not to mention the bipod. LOL!!!

What are you getting in the way of fps with your Dominator?
Have you been able to adjust the regulator?
Pros/Cons on this airgun? Send in personal message if need be.
Thanks!

Tom,
I haven't seen just how far my .22 can be pushed yet. I was getting over 900fps with 14.3 out of the box. I backed it off to about 800. More back yard friendly, and I don't need a ton of fps for the 25yds or less I shoot at in my back yard...
Yes, I've adjusted the reg and had it completely apart since I had an o ring fail already.
Several threads you can read thru for pro and cons. I will say mine shoots straight and I like the side lever cocking and mags. I however will not be buying another in .177 like I originally planned...

Call me a sissy, but I like light rifles. My PCP, my 30-06 and my 6.5 Creedmoor rifles are light. They allow me to hunt longer distances and to have the energy to get into areas that a heavier rifle would not. They allow me to increase the weight of other items in my kit like, water, first aid supplies, and food. And going for a heavy rifle to be able to shoot better offhand? I am a good offhand shot but RARELY do I choose to shoot offhand at game. I owe it to the creature I am hunting to shoot as precisely as possible, so I always try to shoot with some kind of support be it a tree trunk, my pack, shooting sticks or a bipod. A light rifle has never led me to a bad shot on game, and indeed has made me a better shot because it has compelled me to pay even more attention to the fundamentals of good shooting (proper body alignment, breath control, etc).

John I think I'm going to continue using mine at 30fpe for the time being, I pretty much got plans to make my Mrod into a gun that's capable of shooting slugs with that new ART/Sikes valve coming soon. I think I'm going to sit back, enjoy my Dominator and let everyone else start modifying theirs first, then I'll go from there.
-
Wayne,
Sounds like a good plan. I'm happy with the way mine is shooting at 20fpe, I just don't need more power right now.
The only reason I've opened mine up was I had to...Several leaks and the reg bypassing all the sudden. So far, everything has been an easy fix.
No plans to mod mine either. I may get a huma reg at some point, depends on how much trouble the stock reg gives me...

Would the reg allow you to go much higher than it came, I'd imagine the .25 & .22 probably have the same regulator, they're probably adjusted different.
-
Wayne,
I don't know. The reg adjustment, has about 3/16" maybe 1/4" of travel. This is the area between the two o rings that seal the air passage on the adjuster that feeds the reg. Not sure how high you could get the pressure up to.
I measured mine closely so I got the adjustment back as close as possible to the set point I had before the o ring failed. I must have got it close since my fps was the same once the regulator was regulating again.
It looks like my reg falls off about 130bar. Not positive, the chrony numbers lead me to believe this. Without a pressure gauge on the reg side, I'm sort of guessing.
-
Mine falls off at about 100bar or less according to the guage on mine ??? it's really hard to say about something like this when the guages are only so accurate and probably all differ to a certain extent.
-
I've got enough JSB 14.35's, I haven't done a full 250bar fill on mine yet. Heck just filling it to the top of the green is enough for me. But I am curious to see just how many shots I can get from it. Time to count some pellets.

Here is a shot string from a 250bar fill, I can see from this latest string that my regulator has definitely done some settling in since the out of the box chrony test.
I would have done this string with the pellets that I did my original string with but don't want to use them up. I'm sure that it would have made a little bit of difference in the results.

Nice! That's more like it Wayne. That's the kind of fps my son would like.
And this is with no adjustments to the regulator, right?
This is the same setting when you received it. Correct?
Why did the other post on same airgun show much lower numbers on his shot strings? Having trouble remembering his name, but you know which post I'm talking about.
He said his arrived set at 2100 ish and later put the set point to 1600 ish.
I remember. It was Abrackeen in his "Mrodair Airmax Dominator Mark II" post. But he was also experiencing a problem with his Regulator or hammer spring or smething.
The non-bottled version should have similar numbers for fps (not shot count), should it not?
Your thoughts?
Revision: I just noticed that you were shooting 14.3 gr. Abrackeen was using 18 gr. Now it all makes sense. Even John (Shultz) made mention of similar fps numbets with lower grain. Either way, if that is right out of the box, that is great! Thanks for the update Wayne.
-
The only thing that I've done so far is fix things that were out of place in the trigger mechanism. I haven't messed with hammer or regulator adjustments at all.
-
Wayne, the stars defiantly line up for you.

Wayne, the stars defiantly line up for you. Your string is very impressive for no mods on your MKII and M-16. I'm never that lucky. Bob
-
Looking good, Wayne! That's a lotta on-reg shots, waaay more than I need, so hopefully there will be a ton of power to be had if I tune for 2-3 mags on reg, ya know?
Anybody else have a .25? At first glance, it looks like everybody else got a .22, but I would love to have some numbers to compare head to head with mine..
UPS says she's on the truck, sooo, soon enough, I'll be playing a bit o' hooky and see what's in da box!
-
.22 here as well but I have not even shot her yet. My Mrodair rifles both the Varm and the Dom cannot hold air more than a week. The Dom came half filled a week later she is empty, same with the Varm. The MKII holds air but shot count is low so no doubt the reg needs some adjusting. I will need at some point to buy a point and shoot gun. What I mean by that is a gun I can buy and use out of the box at least for a few tins of pellets before it needs something.
The Condor is point and shoot but too much power at the moment for backyard or basement range and with work be so busy that is the only place I have time to shoot.

And so the wheel turns, and again, I put forth the HW110 FAC in .22 for your consideration..
Mine is a ROCK. Always on target, always a joy, not uber-expensive. Not sure of the exchange rate lately, but again, I got mine from Krale for just a bit over $900 everything included. It is worth $1200 retail, in my opinion, but even at $1000 or $1050 is still a bargain.
These SPAs are fun guns, for sure, but dependable? Well, they can be, but when? ::)
Ok, so back on topic, my .25 Dom arrived a short while ago, and she is also half full, but seems to be holding air, ha ha! We'll see, lol..
-
Wayne,
I just wanted to confirm that you have the non-bottled Dominator. Not the MKII. Is that correct?

All of my guns seemed to be holding air, I put them on the rack and check them everyday and sure enough little by little they loose air.
Thanks for the recommend on the Hw110 Chickie. I may go crazy and try a taipan vet shorty as it is different from the rest and they seem to resell quick if I don't like it.

Keith,
I'd check the fill end of your Dominator for a leak. Mine, has leaked twice now :( each time, its been a TINY piece of junk that got under the fill O ring. My airmax MKII has leaked in the same spot several times as well. the only SPA gun I have that has not leaked from the air tube is my PP700W...

Thanks john
I will check it out

Yes, the .257 is a PCP. A custom from Dyotat100 and bbl. from R&L Airguns.
I had .257 Weatherby's for years, and fell in love with the Calibre. A lot to like in the .257, so thought I would try it in an AG. It is a true long range piece, just as the .257's are in a PB.! 8)
Nothing against anyone who does use pain med's. I've just been deathly afraid of narcotics my entire live.
Surgery went very well. In fact, Dr.'s haven't seen such a fast recovery before. Stoked for sure.
Before surgery, I had lost the ability to walk. Pain was severe, but I refused to take pain killers.
Dr's prescribed meds for after surgery, saying there was NO Way I would be able to get by without them. Again they are shocked, as I did not pick them up.
I will NOT take Dope. Never have, never will. I've seen far too much tragedy from it.
Seems to me, it is better to be in pain, than a Junkie in pain. LOL!!!
I am very interested in bottle version of this AG. My biggest concern was weight, due to the aforementioned surgery. From everything I can gather, it seems lighter than one would expect! Still very interested!!! :D
Would love to hear specs for it. I have heard rumblings that it is not very good in the reg department. Or not as good as the tube version.
Any input would be welcomed.

Good on you! Great to hear your surgery went so well. ☺️

Here is a shot string from a 250bar fill, I can see from this latest string that my regulator has definitely done some settling in since the out of the box chrony test.
I would have done this string with the pellets that I did my original string with but don't want to use them up. I'm sure that it would have made a little bit of difference in the results.
Great string Wayne, nice and consistent! I wanted to mention too that I really like the way you lay things out with the pic of the gun and string of shots and pics of the fill pressure before and after. That is sweet!

Wayne,
I just wanted to confirm that you have the non-bottled Dominator. Not the MKII. Is that correct?
Yes

Thanks Wes !!! Ever since I put linux on my puter I've been using gimp which is a free and IMO does just as good a job as photoshop for my needs. I've also done some really neat animations with "Blender" which is also free. I might even do an animation for one of my video's soon, it's been a while since I used it so I'm going to have to brush up on it.

.22 here as well but I have not even shot her yet. My Mrodair rifles both the Varm and the Dom cannot hold air more than a week.
Chickee,
Do you have the .25 non-bottled Dominator?
What kind of fps numbers are you getting?
Ps. Love that HW110 you bought. Sounds great and easy to pump. Price was good with Krale
-
Tom,
I haven't seen just how far my .22 can be pushed yet.
Lol. Great idea Wayne. Time will tell. I love the people in this forum. They're not afraid to take apart their new airguns and make them better. They don't waste much time either. And the price on this airgun is so good. Will be interesting to see what Mike does with his next batch of these.

Tom so far I've been very lucky with SPA stuff, no leakers yet but I did break the bolt handle on my Varmint but it's fixed good now. I'd still like to make a better handle for it though. I need one like a Crosman but with more threads. Right now its a stubby I made from the broken one with bigger threads. I'm getting use to carrying the Dominator now, I made the deep woods squirrel patch(that's what I'm branding it) yesterday for opening day squirrel. I shot a nice fox squirrel at 45 yards up a tree about 30 feet. It was a shot where the squirrel was facing down but had it's head facing straight at me. I was trying to go for a head shot but leaning against a tree isn't the steadiest in the world and I hit her in the throat and it took her vitals out at that angle. So far I'm really pleased with my Dominator, it's at the top of the fun list right now.

That's the ultimate test Wayne. That's what really matters in a survival situation. If, say, we lost the electrical grid, you could easily feed yourself, and others, with an light weight airgun, pump, & a good supply of pellets. Or better yet, a casting mold wrench to repurpose used pellets retrieved from the prey. I'm not sure if you could do the same with bullets as they may be in short supply over time. And it's always good to have a break barrel as a back up just in case the pump fails. 'Trapping' prey in a survival situation is hit or miss, but a handy airgun has the advantage of getting anything that crosses your path. And, if the airgun is powerful enough, like an Airforce Escape or Texan, you can have a fairly decent level of self defense from bad actors. It's nice to know you'd be fine if we had to live like people did in the 1800's, but with the added advantage of not needing gun powder.
That was my initial reasoning behind purchasing an airgun That and the joy of shooting it in the backyard without going to jail. The laws, for now, make it easier to carry, transport, and shoot an airgun. Firearm laws are very strict here in California. The new laws say you need a background check just to buy bullets and they keep track of how many you have. If you have too many, you get put on a list that can prevent you from passing future background checks to buy more ammo. But you can buy as many pellets as you want and will not get arrested for a concealed airgun. Not yet anyway (lol).

I have the non-bottle version, but I haven't chronied it yet. Seems to be hitting over 40 fpe, at first glance. Totally turns any pellet into a mushroom at that power, lol..
I love the HW110, it is all that, and a bag a chips!

Lol. You do have a way with words Chickee!
Let's try this...
How are your 50 yards grouping? Same question on 75yds, then 100yds. I can extrapolate approx fps from that along with pellet Type & weight.
I'm contemplating getting the .25 Dominator if it has enough power to get 24 to 33gr pellets going 875 to 925 fps.
If your groups are there at 100 yards on a nice day while you enjoy your bag of chips, then I'm all "that" and will buy your next bag of chips! (Lol)
Also, Have you used a handpump to fill your Dominator? If so, how bad is it? Is it fairly doable? Seems the tank size isn't too big, but 3,650 psi may be like pushing a bus through a life saver. I've only pumped to 3,000 psi and have no issues with that, but do worry about the last stage between 3,000 to 3,650. However, since it has such a good regulated shot count, I wouldnt always have to fill it all the way up. It could still be all that without the full bag of chips.
-
Tom,
I have only shot it a few dozen times, and basically just casually, so yeah, no hard data, just impressions and observations for now. I know I have hit small stuff at 50 yards enough times to guess that the gun has very good accuracy potential, but beyond that, dunno yet..
I have only pumped it once, and only to about 220 bar, and that wasn't too bad, but it definitely makes me think about a Nitrogen set-up in my near future.
But to be honest, I don't think the gun is worth the asking price, there are a lot of potential issues that can stand between a new owner and great groups at 100 yards. If that is your goal, I would suggest a gun more likely to do that from the get-go. For me, that was my HW110, it has been my base-line for accuracy from the start..

Hi Tom, I have the .25 Dominator (tube version) and it is very consistant at 835 fps with JSB Kings. Chairgun says that is just a smige below 40 ft lbs. The gun is very accurate with those pellets and I have posted a 25 shot group at 35 yards already. Today at the WMA I was shooting small juice cans and small pine cones at 100 yards (rangefinder) braced against a tree, connecting 5 out of 5 tries. The Dominator can reach out and touch something when necessary.
I have not yet attempted to adjust the regulator, just putting lead down range for some break-in for now. Fortunately, my Dominator has been trouble free with the exception of the cocking lever linkage pin, which I secured with Locktite. Mine arrived half full and has not leaked air at all so far.
FYI, I hand pump all my PCPs and the Dominator is not bad at all, even going to 25 mpa.

I'd have to agree with you. It's a bit more 💰💰💰, but you get what you pay for. Right?
How does a Nitrogen set up make it easier? I only know that it's an option for PCPs as an alternative to HPAir. How does it work? Do you desect Nitrogen from the Air, or do you have purchase it? Does it make the gun shoot any differently?Would love to know more. Please do share.
What is the weight of the HW110. It looks short & light, but enough barrel for power & accuracy. It seems fairly comparable to an FX Impact at more than half the price. Ever since I saw Ted's video about winning the benchrest competition, I fell in love with that AG, but would never pay that much. I would have serious remorse if something went wrong with it. That HW110 is pulling my heart strings with those very confident statements you have made about it.

Wow Steve. Thats pretty "dang" good. Sounds like 835 fps is good enough to carry those pellets with accuracy. What kind of holdover do you need for 50, 75, & 100 yards. I take it you are zeroed in at 35 yards.
Glad to hear that the pumping is not an issue. Thanks for sharing that.

Steve,
Where did you post your shot string? Is it in this thread?
I'm really new to forums and don't quite know how to search the forum to find that. Can I search a user's name?
I've only viewed and chatted in the "Darkside" section. I haven't ventured out much to other GTA categories. I'm finding what I need here with all of you. I really appreciate how much everybody shares on this thread.

I'm very happy with mine so far. I've got it sighted in for about 40 yards with the BSA 3-12x44mm 30mm tube tactical scope and the gun is super accurate IMO. When I don't hit what I'm aiming at it's my fault.

Tom, have a look at these threads, they document the first few days that I owned the Dominator:
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130765.200 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130765.200)
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130765.180 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130765.180)
I have a new Centerpoint First Focal Plane scope on my Dominator, zero at 35 yards, and it has taken a bit for me to warm up to this scope. (still not sure that FFP scopes are any advantage for airguns) With this scope, 100 yards is exactly 1 1/2 mils at the current power level. Chairgun calculates that to be about an 18 inch holdover.
-
HaHa, no Elk, but I do see many deer, bobcats, pigs, yotes, occational pole cat, squirrels, doves... a plethora of small and medium game. The P12 is great on these type hunts (yes I do have a sling on all my rifles) and the Dominator will be even better if I can get the power up to where I want it.
have you killed any pigs with a PCP? which one did you use? yes the BT 65 is real heavy
LOL!!!
Knife
hate to hear you had back surgery I never saw it work hope it does for you. tiger woods a billionaire had the best doctors in the world and his 3 or 4 surgeries failed. is you 257 a weatherby mag or the 257 Roberts or a PCP
Wow what a load of unsolicited crud you just heaved towards someone who is looking forward to recovering from their surgery! Freedom of speech and all that, but one should NEVER tell someone in the process of healing to expect a negative outcome. Don't think much before you write what is in your head, do you?
who are you oprah winfrey. mind your own business. I said I hope it works for him
my wife and I have both had back surgery.100% successful and full recovery was in a matter of days. Piece of cake. I laugh at all the people who fear back surgery. A failed back surgery is as rare as hens teeth nowadays.
well it did not work out for the billionaire tiger woods 4 times with the best doctors in the world. I am in const for 50 years and never saw it work for countless guys. having it work is like winning a lottery

Well I had a mishap with my Dominator today, when racking in another pellet the lever handle fell off, luckily I found everything quickly and reassembled it, I need to get down and buy me some blue locktight. :D
-
Maybe you could do a little smash on the side of the pin by the top end to create a bulge that would make a interference fit? ???
-
Maybe you could do a little smash on the side of the pin by the top end to create a bulge that would make a interference fit? ???
It is threaded together so the blue locktight will work good on it with no need to swedge anything. The polymer handle spins on the part that threads on, actually a decent design IMO.
-
Blue Loctite has worked fine for my Dominator so far.

;) ;D Blue Loctite is your friend when you want things to stay on until you want them off for a reason ! ;D Ask me how I know ;D ;D
