 Austin is one of our members here, and a good shooting buddy of mine. He is also the member who set up the current GTA Members Map for us.
 I know he has been going through some tough times lately and he has not been on the forums much, but I also know he is a great guy, very friendly, and believe it or not, he is the main breadwinner for his 3 younger siblings.

Dez, do you think we can do some sort of collection for him ?
I know he does not have much, (if any) Medical insurance, and I'm sure they are hurting financially pretty bad as a result of this.

Evidently a site for medical donations has already been set up. What should be decided is to donate as a group or individually. The site is listed at the end of the news clip.

ok, I spoke with Austin a while ago, and it seems that he's a bit worse off than you might expect from watching the news video.
Apparently they shot that newscast only an hour or so after he had gotten out of the emergency room, and he was still pretty doped up.

he was riding on the freeway between the fast lane and the carpool lane. He was going only 15 mph in traffic, and was behind 2 other bikes. A lady in the carpool lane was hugging the line, and was apparently upset with the first 2 bikes passing her. she swerved to straddle the line and in the process she took Austin off of his bike, knocking him down and into the path of the construction truck driving in the fast lane. The contractor ran over his head and shoulder before he knew what had happened. The contractor and another couple stopped to prevent other cars from hitting Austin. The lady who ran into him took off. and has not yet been located, but apparently just today, Austin has learned a witness to the whole event has a pic of the car, it's license plate, and has turned that into the police. Austin has not yet been able to see this pic but apparently the police have.

  Besides his arm being broke, and whatever else, his Shoulder blade was broken into 6 pieces.
 He just had a CT scan of it today and sent me a pic. It looks like a smashed/broken dinner plate. His minimal coverage is through Kaiser, he has a $10K deductible, and apparently they (Kaiser) are giving him the run-around. He has yet to see a doctor since it happening last Monday and going to emergency.
 CT Tech said he should have been in surgery by the next day, and now he is 7 days past that.
  not to mention, he still has bills to pay to support his family/siblings. His father does not contribute much financially, and Austin has been left holding the bag all the time I have known him.

He is now trying to contact a lawyer to get his medical coverage rep., to stop playing games, and get him the surgery he needs.
 He is in a severe amount of pain, and naturally, he is getting impatient with the whole run-a-round.

Wow that looks pretty bad.  I hope they find the lady that hit him and he can then go after her insurance to pay for most or all the medical bills, and then sue her.  She should be covered for at least $100K liability.

It looks like he is going to be out of commision for a while, and will certainly be needing surgery.

 So do you guys think it would be OK to put this out in a thread to the membership, to see if there is anyone who might be able/willing to help a brother in need ?

The link at the end of the news article wasn't working for me. I think that they had a typo in it.  I fixed it here.

I put in enough money to get him to his goal, but I'm sure more will be welcomed.

I am glad that he's alive and mostly okay.  That shoulder looks aweful.  He ought to sue her for all that he can.  For a hit and run like that you'd think she could get manslaughter at a minimum, and with pictures and witnesses i bet he could get a pro bono attorney.  That lady should have to take care of him and his family at least until he can work again.

Sent him an email shortly after this was posted. Never got an answer.

I do know that before the holidays, he was doing some battle with the insurance company. They were trying to say he did'nt need surgery ! UHMmmm,.... yeah right ! did they NOT SEE the xray's of the shattered shoulder ? ? ?
He had to go to a second Dr. paid out of pocket, and that Dr. said he should have never been released from the hospital in that condition, and surgery should have been done immediately.
 That's the last I had heard, and will try to contact him again.
 I was thinking of him too during the holidays, but was dealing with my brothers condition at the time, (and am still doing so), as he is declining rapidly.
