You could try e-mailing some of the air gun tuning sites in the Vendors Gate and see what they recommend or maybe try typing muzzle break removal in the forum search bar and see what comes up....that search feature on here is very handy for finding things.

You should be able to tap it off with a hammer and a block of wood. If that doesn't work, try heating the barrel/muzzle brake joint with a blow dryer on high heat.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't actually bought the rifle. I like the look of the stock on the XP better than the other model, but hat that big obnoxious looking brake.

I’m looking to remove my muzzle break from my Remington express and haven’t had any luck with the ideas suggested from previous post. Anyone have any other ideas before I try to carefully cut off with a dremel tool. Thanks in advance if you have another idea or solution. Tom

You might as well cut it off including the barrel it covers, then re-crown it. It's not nice under that mod/break

Wow...that is nasty looking I would have never thought it was attached like that. Is the whole area where the muzzle brake was look that bad? Is the spiraling used on the barrel to keep muzzle break on raised a lot? Just wanting to know if I can sand down or would have to grind as well. I’m planning on putting a different muzzle break on and should cover most of that bad area. Thanks for the picture it explains a lot. Tom

It's designed like that so it can't be removed, so yes, it's like it all round. Unless you can fit the barrel in a lathe to do the job, just cut it off and start again.
I believe it is so it can't be fitted on something else as it is a mod and not a brake.

Scotty, I thought about you this morning when I saw this. If you go to PA you WANT see it under Remington. But click navigation then Top Deals and you'll see some windows. Click 'Air Gun Specials, Limited Supply'. They show a Remington Express springer in black composite stock with open sights and a 4x32 scope for $125.
And PA for awhile has had refurbed Rem. Exps. .177 in wood, springer. open sights, a scope and soft case for $90.

It doesn’t look like it could returned in a lathe without going to far. I might cut off off some and hide rest with a muzzle break. About how much of the spiraling is there on the length of the barrel? Thanks

I carbined the barrel down to about 13 inches to get rid of the pig-ugly brake / moderator.
The mod (as we've seen in the posts above) has to be trashed to remove it, or (like me) chop the barrel.
Re-crowned and fitted a V-Mach slip-on silencer (made in the UK), purpose made for this diameter barrel.
Doesn't that look better?
Yes there are other less obvious modifications too
1) Aftermarket setback brass trigger
2) Brass trigger guard
3) Brass stock-cups and stainless hex head screws
4) Tune kit
5) Maccari Large Apex piston seal
6) Shim under the breach seal
Cocks and shoots as good as it looks

That does look good. Where did you get the brass trigger and guard?
