Wind always wins (p-rod post)

Wind always seems to be the winner.
Can “beat” it with wind flags, concentration, a good bag rest on a real bench, and a well measured range on occasion, but it seems to be nearly unbeatable out in the field (where the range is a guess, the wind flags are leaves/grass stems, are shooting from a make-do field rest, and the rifle is a short/light).
Was getting my P-Rod ready for a little “serious” squirrel hunting. Shot this at 20yards using 8-shot groups (the mag holds 8, so just used that number of shots per target).
No bench rest, just shooting off my hands rested on a saw horse (which is still more stable than most of the shots I get in the woods):
Really can’t directly compare 8-shot groups with 5-shot, so have to estimate. That’s about 1/3 larger than the best I can do at the same range for 5-shot groups, using a real bench, bags, and under calm conditions.
Checking the trajectory at 40 yards, found something odd (good-odd rather than bad-odd). The old Center Point 3-9X scope has “hash marks” rather than “dots”, and they aren’t spaced in true mils. Turns out, the 1st has mark is just about perfect for 40yards using this pellet and a scope mounting height of 1.45”.
Checking after the fact, found the spacing to be about 5.8-6MOA between hash marks. That works out to something like 2.3” at 40yards, which happens to be pretty close to the real world expected drop from a 20 yard zero.
Definitely getting a sideways spread as range increases. Going to have to call the “real world” usefulness at 40yards.
LESSON:
The wind always wins.

It would be nice to see each states hunting laws catch up to the potential of our gear. The scary downside though is if they see it and begin to declare our stuff as firearms.

Looks good Ribbonstone;
My Prod loves the JSB 13.43 and dime groups out to 35 yrds, haven't shot it further yet. I also zero my Prod at 30 yards which seems to be best for me form 10 to 35 yards on a 1" kill zone.
Your sideways groups are still on the money for small game that's for sure.
Here is a link on the GTA on some groups my Prod shot.

These little carbines shoot some nice groups thats for sure.
Have fun and enjoy... Thanks for sharing.
