Has anyone tried the Crossman F4? Need something for backyard plinking and light varmint work. WallyWorld has them for a pretty good price. Just wondering.

Got one, went back within a week. Chinese Crosmans are a lottery. Buy enough of them and you might eventually get a good one.

I went ahead and bought one. For the price I wasn't too worried. I guess I got lucky. Got a little over 300 rounds through it and not a single problem. After getting the scope sighted in I am getting 1" groups at 25 yds. Very impressed with it so far. Usually I am on the other end of things.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I've been looking for something to put my GRTIII in since my Optimus went to pieces. Will probably look for an old 220 or something.

Thanks. I haven't had it very long so can't really say how long it will last. What kind of problems did you have? Might let me know what to watch for..

I've got a couple of old Crosman Storm XT's.(pawn shop finds) One was nice. Put it in a Benjamin TH stock I got off the classified and a friend installed a GRT trigger in it, knocked the sight off, barrel weight and scoped it. Nice shooter.
The other was rough. Got the rust off with oil and steel wool then spray painted the barrel and receiver with P/U bed liner and put it in the nicer stock from the other gun. Kept the sights and scoped it. It might get a new trigger one day.
Thought about refinishing the other stock and put an F4 in it and installing new trigger or maybe find another TH stock.
In a new gun the Remington Express might be a better choice. It already has a good trigger.

I have the F4 and a synthetic Remington Express and love them both. I did the "bearing washer"? trigger job on the F4 and it made for a very nice single stage trigger while the Express trigger was good enough for my tastes right out of the box. My F4 is shooting JSB 8.44 grainers at 868 fps for 14.1 ft/lbs while the Express (.22 cal.) is shooting JSB 14.3 grainers at exactly 700 fps for 15.5 ft/lbs. These are my two "Powerhouse" springers, lording over my mid-powered (what I prefer) Weihrauchs and Dianas. Fun to shoot and a real bargain at $70 (F4) and $50 (Walmart had the "Remingtons" on closeout) respectively. Say what you will about these guns but I feel I've already achieved $50 worth of shooting pleasure out of each gun.

Now that I've had my F4 for a while I have to agree. Started with CPHP but as the power increased they became unstable. Switched to Air Arms Field 8.4's and right back on again. Putting 10 shots in a nickle sized area at 25 yards. (My highly modified Daisy-Winchester-Hatsan 1000 still likes the CPHP's best.)

The F4 has the same basic barrel and Nitro Piston as a whole bunch of other Crosmans so it wouldn't necessarily be any better or worse. The trigger mod will help a lot.
I had an F4 that was a dud but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another as long as it could be returned if there were problems because the next one might be perfect . I think the problem with Crosman and a lot of other airgun manufacturers is quality control so don't be shy about bringing it back.

They are 7 grain and are horrible pellets. I shoot shoot a few in my Daisy 880's at 10 yards and that is pushing it. At least go for CPHP's. Don't blame the gun for being inaccurate with those pellets. The CPHP's are 7.9 grain. My F4 after completely breaking in likes 8.4's at 25 yds.

I bought an F4 from walmart this Christmas. I changed the scope after i broke it in. It will put Winchester 9.8's in a dime at 15 yards. Smooth cocking and not too much for recoil. It is on par with all the other NP Crosmans I have. They're not extremely anything but fun to shoot. I haven't tore it down and lubed it yet as it seems to be working fine. Over 600 rounds and it is doing fine. The "muzzel brake" is just a handle to pull the barrel with and cosmetic. It isn't loud enough to me to need anything more serious.
