screw help

I'm trying to get my metering screw to turn, but I can't get the allen wrench to seat in the screw head. I know they are the same size but I just can't get it to seat right.

Hi.
A ball head Allen might help in this situation.
You may want to mention the type of rifle because someone may have another solution for you.
Hope this helps

There are two set screws one is brass and sets on top of the steel one. The brass set screw is used to keep the steel metering screw from backing out. First look and see if it's brass or steel. If brass its probably stripped so use a small flat head screw driver or torx and tap it with a mallet to get it to seat then remove and replace if steel do the same but may require a reverse drill bit or worse.

I can get the brass one out. The steel one is the one I can't get out. I will try the small screwdriver.

The steel one is lock tighten and somethings needs a good deal of elbow grease to move it. You can De-gas gun and then apply heat directly to it for small bursts at a time this may help also. Just be careful. I have a lot of stock valves setting around so if you screw it up I'll send you one.

IIRC it may have been lloyd-ss who posted on using valve lapping compound to fill up the slop in the head of the allen head slot. Not sure if it would work for you.

I appreciate the offer. I will try messing with it again tomorrow, and see what I can do. I may not even mess with it. It hits pretty hard now. So maybe it's got enough power now. I wont know till I get a chrono.

If your allen won't seat, there may be some &^^& in the head of the setscrew. Blow out with air and use a small stiff wire to clean out head, more air etc.. Use a quality hex wrench too. I use Bondhus allens.

Ok well the hex I was using worked. Evidently the screw was very tough and since I was afraid to strip it, didnt apply enough pressure. Needless to say I opened her up now.
