November 29, 2015 - Sunday morning
The Fox Squirrels had me pinned down this morning and my phone was vibrating (my mother was calling.)

The squirrels were active early. I saw the first one as I rode my bicycle to the spot where I cross into the woods. Because it had seen me (and barked), I move into the woods and sat on a fallen tree for a while. About five minutes later the second one showed. The about two minutes later the third. The fourth one stopped long enough to receive some air mail. DRT As soon as I shot it, another ran from the same tree and stopped to bark itself to death. DRT Those two were on the ground about 15 feet apart.
Then everything got very still. After about an hour, I started moving back toward the bicycle. Well, they would have none of that: About nine squirrels were moving about so fast, I had trouble picking one to shoot. But pick one I did. I dropped one in a border tree with a clean shot. DRT Then after moving a little closer, I took number four. DRT Oh, and I did miss another between numbers three and four. PHEW! What a hunt.

You are fortunate.There really are no woods to speak of near me only some trees at the park and shelter belts.

Thanks, James. Almost all of the hunting success I have had was in little pockets of woods surrounded by houses, or farmland, or pastures. And most of the squirrels I have found in this type of habitat were Fox Squirrels. Try to finds something like that and get permission to hunt there. It has worked for me.

Saturday 12/5/15

This morning dawned cold and clear with a very light breeze. As I entered the woods (about 30 yards in), I spotted movement, so I sat. They moved to the tree above me and the first one dropped in view from a head shot. The second one moved into another tree which was a little closer to me. It also fell from a JSB to the head. Number three was a miss (actually twice.) The next one was about 30 yards past the one I missed and it never saw me. All this time, they were still chasing around high and low in the trees. I had started back to the bicycle when the last one showed itself. I hit it in the shoulder with the first shot and the head with the second. They will never learn!

Thanks, Jerry; but the gumbo was chicken and sausage. I have done squirrel gumbo in the past and it is GOOOOOOODDDD! This is how the squirrel gumbo happened ---> LAZYMAN'S Squirrel Gumbo <--- and it will happen again.
