Velocity data 4 guns 10 diff pellets. Added some

    Alright I have been sneaking in shooting time here and there and collecting all the data adn here it is. I shot my 177 350, 470 and Gamo hunter with 6 types of pellets and chronied it at point blank, 10 yards and 28 yards. The hunter was pb and 10 yards. My 22 cal 350 was also done and used 5 different pellets. I only shot the primary pellets I use at 28 yards. The 3 177 guns were out in the boat garage this weekend and it was fairly cold at night. All 3 guns shot slower than other times that I have chronied them, most like due to cold tar on the springs. The results were pretty interesting.

yep the cold will take alot of power out of them, cold air is heavier and also lubes don't work as well in the cold as you have discovered.

Added the 10 yd line stuff for the 22 350 and for the 177 350 I shot the 28 yd line 10.2 and 10.65. The 470 28 yd line was the 8.4 adn 10.65.

WIll add more as I get a chance to shoot it.

I would like to see more with the CPHP down range - and maybe a few of the better performing pellets (JSB 8.4) out at 50 yards (or a longer distnace) if that is possible.  It will really show what are the better down range pellets as far as holding velocity.

Snaab i am planing on running to the swamp with chrony in hand tomorrow to try and stretch my 350 out. I will take the jsb 8.4, 10.2 and hn 10.65 barracudas for sure. He cphp's don't group well, 2 poi depending if they fit tight or not, so they are a little more stressful to try to shoot through the chrony at longer ranges. I am very curious about the performance differences between the lighter and heavier pellets in the 60-100 yd range. Should be vey interesting and just off the info i have so far i am seriously looking into switching to 10.2 gr jsb's in my 350. The 10.2 start out slower with less fpe but don't loose as much velocity at 28 yds whih gives you more fpe down range.

Yes mark this is very interesting. Glad somebody suggested doing this. I am learning a thing or 2 about the guns and pellet combos.

Thanks again - can't wait to see your results.  I understand what you are saying about the CPHP's - wouldn't want to see you bust up your chrono on my behalf.    

Really appreicate you sharing this with us.  I hope to do the same types of things once I get a chrono.... seems like a lot of fun if you like numbers/stats and such in a geeky way like I do.

Once I start shooting my NPSS, I will be doing a lot of long range shooting  with it at 50-70 yards - possibly futher now and then.  I too am very curious how much better the heavies hold their velocity.  In the end on a long shot - they might have as good if not better of a trajectory as the lighter JSB ones.  It looks like the are about even at 28 yards.  By 60 yards, the average velocity may be the same between the 10.2 and 8.4 with the 10.2 having significantly more velocity.  How many shots did you do of each pellet at a given distance?  I wonder how close the numbers will be the second time out.

It really looks like those JSBs are holding their velocities well agaist the others.  If the are accurate - seems like a win win.  Some of the others really dump velocity off quickly - dont' look like pellets I would want to try for my shooting.  I was just curious about the CPHPs as I am shooting them now in my 2100.  Once I get a chrono I really want to see how the crosman domed ones hold up against the CPHPs as the hollow point has to reduce the BC... I am curious by how much.  I wanted to get the domed ones but Walmart doesn't carry them and I have yet to start ordering pellets... I was thinking about trying the JSB 8.4 grain ones in my 2100 but was fearful that I might lose too much velocity/mess up my trajectory in an already "slow" gun.

Oh yes F-1 chrony. Forgot to put that in the last string.

The 28 yard shot strings were 3 shot groups from the 470 and 350. The 22 350 was a 5 shot string mixed between the ftt and fts 14.66 pellets since they are the same pellets. The 10 yd and point blank were 5 shot strings on all guns. All of the 10 yd and under I can do indoors. The 28 yd shots I sit in my computer room shoot out the window across the yard in the open window on my boat garage to the chrony/target set up on the other side of the garage. So I cut the strings to 3 shot strings, I dont want the neighbors to complain so I try to keep shooting sessions shorter while around the house. I will go down to the swamp to stretch it out to 100.   

Sharp or straight shooters has a good pellet selection sampler for $35. Comes with a bunch of different pellets. H&N and RWS also sell samplers that are worth while to check out.

How much of a pain did you find it using the F-1 for long range shooting?  If you could do it over again, would you spent $30 more to get one that can log many shots/strings?

SO far I am very happy with the F-1. I can read it crystal clear through the scope and just keep my calculator next to me to type in each shot. We will see once I get out to farther ranges.
