Just got my plinkster in .22 cal about a week ago. 1st let me say I'm really impressed with the quality materials used to construct this little carbine! It is really light weight and easy to handle. My original plans for this rifle was to install a bottle block on the tube and run it off of a regulated 13ci ninja hpa bottle set to around 1100 psi. Unfortunately after disassembly I found out that the gun wasn't designed to hold air or co2 in the tube...instead the co2 cartridge seals to the valve and it holds all the pressure..the valve itself doesn't have any o-rings on the outside of it to seal the valve in the tube... which was a real bummer to me! And I've never been a huge fan of co2 power.. or lack thereof. So I did a few shots over the chronograph to see what kind of power it was putting out on the co2. And let's just say it really needs some hpa! Lol.. shooting crosman 14.3 grn I was getting right at 570 fps for a solid 10.8 ftlbs. Not bad for paper punching. But I like my rifles to be 15+ ftlb at least. This was attained shooting indoors at 70 degrees. When it warms up a bit I'll do some shooting to see just how accurate the rifle is going to be..and I'll post my findings when I do.

Is the .22 varmint very loud? Back yard friendly? Is the barrel threaded? This maybe an cheaper alternative to the mrod for me. Of course it isn't quite as powerful.

It is not loud, but the LDC on the end isn't very large so it isn't as quiet as it probably COULD be. I would say it's multi-pump pneumatic loud...if that's any idea. I don't have a dB meter.

Back yard friendly? well...depends on your neighbor as it's not whisper quiet but I have heard break barrels cracking louder when they went super sonic.
this is Definitely a great alternative to the M-Rod...for ONE, it's a LOT lighter and less bulky-which is my one big detractor about my Marauder. TWO, it gives you the multi shot ability unlike a stock Discovery. I don't know what you want for power, but mine averaged 870fps with 14.3 grain pellets for the first magazine I put over the chronograph...that's not shabby in my book. Plenty of power for hunting small game at 'average guy ability' ranges.
I haven't taken the LDC off...it looks to be held on with a set-screw... so I don't know if it's threaded. If I have to chance I'll see about that later today.

There should be more chatter about this rifle...I'm not sure why there isn't...it looks like a winner to me.

I would guess the long term support issues some folks faced with the CP pistols is not helping.

Plus, the new Maximus being only $200 is going to take some wind out of it's sails, so to speak. Especially since Crosman is still going to be selling parts in 20 years for that gun.

I agree, but this rifle has an "LDC" and a 7 shot magazine as well as a single shot loading try AND it can be pressurized to 2900 psi instead of only 2000. so if you added those features to a Disco, it would be in the same ballpark. *which Crosman might want to consider doing IMHO*

I'm really not trying to push this rifle, but it seems like that since an extra large distributor hasn't got it that it is not receiving as much press as it's due.

That would cut into mrod sales.

Without support and marketing crosman has no reason to fear the varmit.

Another thought I had was to get 2 grooves cut into the OD of the valve so that i could use o-rings to seal it in the tube and add 2 more screws to pin the valve. I'm no engineer. But the tube appears very similar in size and thickness to a stock QB tube. So surely it would be fine at 1100 psi hpa levels. Of the regulator on the bottle would have a 1.8k burst disc installed to keep things safe. Any thoughts or input from wiser individuals would be greatly appreciated.

You're probably right that they have no need to fear the rifle but it could be an alternative to a marauder for someone that wants a smaller and less expensive foray into the multishot PCP land.
Here are two pictures of how high the magazine sits (about 12mm) above the receiver grooves and of the barrel and LDC , so medium scope rings work fine. I DID have to slide the front sight off to make room for the objective bell-housing
The barrel is 12 mm and the area where the muzzle break is set screwed on is 10mm for those that would like to know for future reference.

I have been shooting mine for 3-4 months now. I put some F.O. sights on it, other than that its still stock. That's strange for me, I tinker with everything. I love how lite it is. It seems to like JSB 15,89gr. ammo shooting around 850fps. Its very accurate, and lots of fun to shoot. I keep it around for when the tree rats are to close for my scoped guns. For the price, you cant beat it.

I've had mine for about 4 months now and put a LDC on it because the moderator it came with was not neighbor friendly at all. Mine has worked great and loves the crossman premier 14.3 domes. Very accurate to 50 yards (1/2" ) groups ☺

TKO makes one, you have to call them and tell them what you need. They don't have them listed on their site.

I'm still tinkering with mine..
I just got through converting it to .25 with a $15 xl725 barrel, Which is showing a lot of promise shooting JSB kings at just over 800 Fps.

I love the weight and feel of this rifle! Which is why I have invested sooo much time into it.
Out of the box mine was a 8fpe plinkster that was powered by co2 , with marginal accuracy at best..
after many hrs spent modifying and experimenting, it is at present a bottled , very accurate
( .50" @ 50yds ) , 36fpe .25cal with a shrouded barrel , and it's still a work in progress.

The only downside to the caliber change is that I lost the ability to use the mags. And it's now single shot only.

So to me its most definitely a diamond in the rough with many flaws, the biggest being the breech as mentioned earlier by Casey ... but a good overall design if your willing to put the work in...

Yea, ordered it from crosman.
You really can't beat their prices!

The barrel has to be removed from the break barrel breach and turned down to fit into the mrodair breach.
Then cleaned up , drilled for a transfer port.

And since it is already threaded at the end , I used the shroud that crosman uses on the barrel and it really looks great IMHO.

LDC is the one place they really missed the mark...nothing else is "off", but that LDC is more a muzzle weight than an LDC.

Basically it's nearly solid, just a .40" (10mm) hole with this baffled soda straw in the hole. Volume is really-really tiny, so while it may work a little on a down-tuned co2 Plinker, it's just short of useless on the PCP version so far as noise abatement is concerned.

Modded an old one that was on hand (not currently made) to fit the 10mm barrel (at least it's 10mm at the rebated front section where the LDC goes).

IGNORING the baffle system that would go in, just looking at the hole from muzzle to end LDC end cap:

Issue LDC = (3.2" long / .4" internal diameter) = .4 ci

Replacement LDC = 4.3" long / .7" internal diameter) = 1.64 ci

So yeaah...depending on the baffle system...having +4 times the internal volume really does help a whole lot.

If TKO has one that will fit, would be a worthwhile buy.

Oh , and also needed for the barrel swap to modify or make a new bolt . I chose to make a new one out of a 5/16 Dia. drill bit.
