I've been thinking about a new break barrel gun and was considering a sub $200 gun but I think I’m going to buck up for what seems to be the best overall break barrel pellet gun a Diana RWS 34. Airgun Depot has the below three deals on the .177. I really like the knock down power of the .22 but its a PITA to get. I live in Illinois so a .22 can not be shipped to me.

I’m curious as to the price difference on the combo packages. I’m thinking the scope on the $329.00 package is not as good as the one on the $349.00 package as it comes with AO down to 7.5 yards?

I’m not sure if I want to buy a scoped version or just get the gun and purchase a scope separately.
Does anyone have experience with either of these two scopes; if so are they worth it?

I know the RWS lockdown mount is ~$30 by itself.

No experience with any of the scopes, but the gun it self is a dream to shoot.

The Diana 34 is a good gun (I have three) but the HW95 from AoA for $299 is the better deal.

Not sure if the 34 is the best overall break barrel. Maybe in that price range. But a HW95 for 299.95 from AOA may be a better choice (may be in back order).
If you do decide on the D34 would be good to know the warranty on the scope on the combo. I think some have had problems with warranty issues with Umarex. JMO

I think at this point, there ought to be a BANNER POSTING atop General Airgun (at the least):

*looking for the best deal on a spring gun

*wanting to compare springers, German or otherwise
*etc, etc.

THAT said, there is a loyal Diana following for reasons! The poster should check out AoA right now for the best deal on a 34 if that's what he wants. He's still going to save enough for a better scope, or a heckuva lotta pellets or accessories of the price of the HW deal, which comes out to a minimun of like $338 w/shipping, IIRC. The poster will sell his 34 quickly, if afterward he buys an HW and prefers it. Many keep BOTH around.

The RWS 34 is a great rifle. Well worth the recommendation. Problem with reccommending one right now is AoA has the HW 95 for $299. Go with the HW95. For what it is worth the scope that comes with the RWS34 combo is an absolute piece of junk that won't last 1-3 weeks of shooting based on my experience with 6 different RWS combo scopes. So don't let the scope factor into your decision.

About 8 months ago I bought a .177 34 combo with 1 piece lockdown mount and Hawke 4-12X50 scope. It was around $350 from AGD. I love everything about it. I shot 500 rounds before mounting the scope and at least another 3000 since then. I have used minimal lube in all the right places and have had no issues with the gun or scope. I have had no experience with the HW95 everyone keeps talking about. I also don't know what I would have bought if AOA had the sale when I bought my Dianna. But I do know that now that I have the 34, I do not desire to have the 95 more. Good luck in your decision. I'm sure you will enjoy either one.

I have a 34 that i bought 20 years ago. Kept on firing even when the spring broke in five pieces. I absolutely love the gun and i am rebuilding it as we speak.

Ive been eyeing up the HW95 at the $300 price tag. Only thing holding me back is that the platforms are too similar. Probably going to save the extra money for a 77 or 97.

Had a D34 and sold it because it was the d34p I am not a fan of the synthetic stocks. That being said either Rifle is a great product . I think the HW may be just a little better quality construction you will enjoy either good luck in your decision process

Same here. Wish I had kept my 34 T01.. Still hard to beat HW quality.

I have had a few 34's in .177 and .22. If you decide to buy a 34 in .177 the Meisterschütze Pro Compact is my recommendation. It is the most accurate springer I ever shot out to 40 - 45 yards. Easy to cock and shoulder. As far as triggers go the TO6 trigger is a drop under the rekord on the HW95.

That said at $299 the HW95 is what I would buy. If your ok with a refurbished gun call AGD and ask if or when refurbished 34's will be in stock. My Pro Compact was a refurb and cost $169 with the RWS 3-9x40 AO scope plus the droop mount. To this day its the best $169 I spent on an airgun.

Oh boy, your question hits home with me. If you can swing the extra bucks, I'd get the HW95. If you do go with the RWS 34, DO NOT get the combo. I just went through posting several lengthy threads getting advice and figuring out what was wrong with my combo.

Finally pinned it down to 2 major problems:
1) The windage was so far off on the scope, it was nearly pinned to the maximum adjustment in addition to using a Sun Optic mount with windage correction. Very bad to shoot scopes like that. I put a new scope on and that problem was solved. In researching it, I found others who also had problems with RWS scopes.

2) Massive barrel droop problem. So bad that no droop mount currently made would fix it. I finally used the RWS droop mount that came with the rifle to take some of the droop out and bent the barrel to correct the rest.

However, you might get lucky on both counts. Maybe not on the RWS scope but possibly on the droop. A number of shooters have posted they have little problem with that on their 34. Maybe I got a bad one.

It's a pretty twangy gun (maybe not more than other break barrels, I don't know) but I put a $80 Vortek kit in it and that took care of it. The kit did much better than the tune and lube direction I tried. Of course both involved building a spring compressor so I could do the work. The sound now is just a sharp crack with 14 grain pellets. Not as neighborhood friendly as I'd hoped but I didn't put in the sub 12 fpe kit either.

I have the wood stock version, it's a real pretty gun and I enjoy shooting it finally. The T06 trigger is nice, without looking it up I think it will go below 1 pound if you want it to. Quite a headache getting the rifle in shooting condition though.

I don't like RWS's scopes, they don't have mildots and they aren't very durable. I've bought 4 hammer's 3-9 magnum airgun scope/mount set ups and have only had one fail (it was on a 350 magnum, but the replacement has held up great). Where as 2 out of 3 of the RWS scopes have failed.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've decided to go with the HW95 .177. I think I'd be happy with either gun but the $299 price tag seems to be a deal. AOA is backoedered though and weren't sure when they would get them. Heck, If it takes too long I might end up with a Diana 34 too as they seem to be readily available.

Yes, The RWS scope is junk. It lasted me about 1000 rounds if I remember right.
