I have beavers in the stream on my property up in the Catskill Mountains, very interesting animals to observe.  Sometimes I quietly sneak down to the stream very early in the morning or at the very end of the day and if I sit still and don't make any noise I can observe them as they go about their business in the ponds that they've created.  They are usually no more than 20 yards from me so I'm assuming the guy in the blog popped them at short range, although I could be wrong.  I've never shot or trapped any of them and noone else in the area has bothered them either.  Before the beavers moved in I had fairly decent trout fishing in my stream, but since they've been there the trout fishing is absolutely phenomenal.  The deep ponds they've created are filled with trout.  Over the years the beavers did chew down a large numbers of beautiful trees that were growing near the stream, but I just figure that's natures way.

youll like em for a while till they dam up more local streams and flood the roads. They do create nice fish habitat, but if you have a manmade dam and they begin to burrow into it you are in some trouble, your pond will be ruined

They've been there for about 15 years or so and while their activities did flood several acres of my property over the years it never really had any significant  impact on me or my use of the land.  Matter of fact I should add that I never had any waterfowl hunting on my property but with all the beaver created ponds and flooded timber I see ducks and geese all the time down there now

There were some beavers a few years ago a few miles up the road from me that managed to cause a flooding problem that was affecting the road that runs through our valley.  In that case the D.E.C. came in, trapped the beavers and relocated them to another location and used explosives to destroy the dams creating the problems.

Cool. I trap the beaver at a pond up from the road from me. The landowner says to get them out as he originally wanted to kill them anyways. The road that gives us access to fish that pond will be gone within a year if we don't get them out. They are good in many ways tho, but sometimes they have to go as they begin to cause severe damage

A bunch of years ago I was trout fishing in the upper Mohave near Bishop,Ca. I was thigh-deep in a flooded stand of saplings tossing flies gently out of the stand of trees into a pool in the main stream just after sunset. Just as I set the hook on a 20" brown, I heard what sounded like someone doing a cannon-ball right behind me, a half second later I was covered in a sheet of water! I turned around to see a huge beaver which had spotted me in his lumber yard and decided I wasn't welcome. He had "snuck-up" on me and given me a "tail-slap" bath! Don't know if it was the biggest one I had ever seen, but it's proximity was scary as all get out! I got out of there as fast as I could, had to go back in the morning to find my rod, unfortunately, the trout was gone.

 lol Paulie i can relate. I got attacked by one as i kayaked over his home base, he shot under me , it looked like an alligator coming underwater, just a huge brown thing moving fast, he went under me and surfaced just behind me, he cracked the water with his tail and my brother, who was 50 feet in front of me said it sounded like someone dropped a bowling ball of a 5 story building. I truly almost need a diaper, it scared me pretty bad till i realized what it was, he didn't have to worry, i didn't go back.

From what I read beavers are terrortorial I guess it was true.

A friend and I were fishing at night on a bayou in south Louisiana one time and while just sitting there in the dark a beaver surfaced within feet of the boat and slapped the water with his tail.  One of a few times in my life I almost walked on water!  Dead still night, darkness with just a scattering of stars and the quiet solitude of spending time talking with a friend were shattered in less than a second.  He laughed at me for fifteen minutes.  Some friend.  Here, I am dying of a heart attack and he's laughing!!!
