Hi All,Went to Coalinga Ca yesterday on their 1000 yd range, 8/17/15...Placed the 500 meter RAM at the 300 yd berm for 700 yds...It is getting more difficult as i go out further, the target is SMALLER....NRA competition, the target is larger as distance increases .

I'm confused by that...were you shooting at 300 yds or 700 yds actual range? Al
Great shooting Sir.What rifle did you use, and any idea how fast the slug was going when it hit?I look forward to seeing more of your long distance videosDave
I too have shot 2 outings at 700 yards. One was semi successful the other was a dismal failure. On the successful outing I used my .30 cal. 165 gr. RCBS Silhouette bullet that has been modified by modified by Mr.Ohlen to remove the gas check shank and he increased the rear driving band by .002" inches. This bullet shoots pretty good. I have set my new 300 ten shot record group with this bullet at 5.1" inches. My muzzle velocity is only 860 fps. So to reach 700 yards I needed 192 minutes of angle dialed into the Cold Shot scope base. The Cold Shot elevates the rear of the scope so as the rear of the scope lifts up the front of the scope points lower. It was so bad at 192 MOA that I was seeing my own air stripper in the field of view. I had to remove the air stripper to even see my target. My best outing struck my 45" X 45" target board 8 out of 10 shots. Spotting at Rayner's range can be really difficult due to grass that just swallows up bullets. Although I have little problem spotting high power bullets flying through the air I have had little success spotting air rifle bullets in the air. I'm not sure why? The other issue that is unavoidable is the incredible effect of the wind on the low velocity, low ballistic coefficient bullets. My wind drift at 700 yards is a whopping 93" inches of wind drift with a 10 mph cross wind. Even an undetectable 1 mph change in wind velocity at 700 yards moves my bullet 9.3 inches. So unless we are shooting in a vacuum, long range with air rifles is always going to be dictated by the luck of the wind that you encounter on any particular day. In Ohio, the wind can change in both direction and velocity by significant amounts in the same shot string! This makes tight groups impossible. But like Charlie Brown, I'm sure I'll try again.
GREAT SHOOTING CARL. You estimated BC and retained speed just might be pretty much correct. Looking at the bullet fragments, they say that when lead hits a target and it remains flattened but WHOLE, the impact speed is roughly 600 FPS! Any faster and they fragment. I don't know the exact speed this happens but i've tested it and it appears to be true.........Keep up the fantastic work. And yeah, dontcha just hate when you do all that driving or walking out to distance, starting the camera, do some great shooting and the "dang" friggen camera turns off cause too much time has lapsed? And you don't find out till you either REview it on the camera or like me, WHEN YOU GET HOME THAT NIGHT.......lol! ARRRRRRRRRGH! This part really not worthy about long range shooting (camera dying during filming\shooting)

If not Tech said to lower rez to 640 and get over 1 hr of continuous recording. Good info the book didn't explain............Next time out will have MORE TIME to get better storage of hits on target, OR NOT Had the dozen yesterday and camera OFF

What He is saying is the target is 300yds from the 1000yds targets. His is on the firing line of the 1000yds targets.
BC changes with velocity, unless your bullet matches the G1 drag model perfectly (highly unlikely).... Unless you know what velocity NOE measured their BC at, you are comparing apples and oranges.... Both numbers could be correct if they were determined at different velocities....Bob

That distance is getting to be extreme.. Call Guinness!! If uploading to U tube.. Use 1080, or 720, as that's usually as much as people use nowadays..

I'm not quite following this. So you're shooting a reduced silhouette target at 300 yards, correct? This would be the equivalent of shooting a the full size target at 700 yards correct? That's very good shooting with an air rifle, but I don't think I would say I'm hitting something at 700 yards away when it's really on 300 yards away. In the military, if you shoot a midget at 300 yards, is it the equivalent of shooting the same midget at 700 yards? No it isn't. Take note of what Cedric is shooting. He is shooting coke cans at very long distances and he post the distance that he is actually shooting, not the reduce distance due to the size of the object. If I totally missed what you're doing, I apologize in advance. I just think the shot take should be posted at it's TRUE distance.
