HW97kt Dieseling even after break in...

Hi Guys,

About 6 months ago i purchased a 2nd hand hw97kt blackline, i was told the previous owner had bought it, fitted a scope and sighted it in, then sold it to me before moving overseas for job opportunities. However since owning it i have put at least 1000 pellets through it, and while the accuracy and power seem to be very consistent ive noticed that the gun still seems to be dieseling and smoking after most shots... It still fires smoothly, with just a thud and no crack etc from detonation but im just curious as to whether this is a common issue? I will eventually pull it down and rebuild it with some nicer bits, but for now im curious as to whether they come overloaded with lube etc from factory or anything similar?

Sounds like too much dyno lube from factory.  Try cleaning the barrel down with some goo gone and a few dry patches, this will get any lube left in the barrel.  It still took my Vantage NP around 1,000 pellets to stop smoking.

If you do tear it down make sure to use the proper lube so it won't detonate at all.

Thanks for the advice, when i get home from work i will give the barrel a good clean and see where that leaves me I have some moly paste and tar (tar wont be used on any gun if i can help it) left over from multiple rebuilds on my gamo big cat so the moly will be used, and i will have a look if any other lubes etc are necessary before tinkering with it. I did read when looking on the ARH site about some hw97's having out of round compression chambers etc so im hoping this isnt a sign of that.

I had smoking come and go for months before I figured out it was moisture ... no smell of smoke.

Just sayin, 1000 rounds of dieseling and no detonation

It's well known that HW's come swimming in lube...........break it down and clean it up.
Drop in a JM kit while you have it apart.

Hey guys, i gave the barrel a good clean this morning and pumped about 20-25 pellets through it, and no sign of smoke at all... In the next month or two im going to place an order on for some maccari bits for it, and strip it down for a good clean and relube.... worked wonders for my gamo... 

Sorry, i sorta worded it badly in regard to the detonation, i just meant it wasnt really performing negatively other than the smoke...

You didn't word it poorly, it's just there's a huge confusion over dieseling vs detonation.

Not a conversation I want to delve into again though.

I found the same with the previous R9s and HW77k I bought over the years, however I recently bought one of those $299 HW95s and it didn't diesel once, even straight from the box! I always break down my HW springers to strip of factory "dinosaur based grease" and relube with non-dieseling Krytox and this is what I found inside the new HW95.........


Basically.....if using "dinosaur lube" it was lubed perfectly instead of the slathered on lube I've had with HW springers in the past!
LOL.....I cut oring sealed piston seals for my HW springers and normally I have to do some prep work to the receiver for oring sealing, however this HW95 tube was already "good to go" as this pic shows.......

I don't know if this is the norm for the newer HW springers but mine was the best I've even had of the dozen or so HW springers that I've tuned, bought & sold during the last couple decades!
