pcp question
«
on:
March 01, 2011, 07:18:26 PM »
I will be buying a pcp pretty soon either air force condor/ or benjamin discovery.
And was wondering if I could use this to fill either of them it is a 4500 psi 68 cubic inch Tank.
This was given to me today for free, the owner of the company I am the forman for said he didn't need it anymore for his paint ball guns.
I just looked on the internet and it says it has 800 psi output pressure is this enough. Rob

Yes...You should be able to use that to fill, with the correct fittings/connectors. Joe will have everything you need, you can call him and he will answer all questions too.
http://www.airtanksforsale.com/
The only things I think you will have to worry about are where to get it filled, because not all scuba shops fill to 4,500psi. And I think those carbon fiber tanks have a 15-20 year "life span"
But who cares for FREE?
you'd be able to fill that Disco forever!
Edit just saw Cubic In. ....not ft.
so maybe this is better as a buddy bottle?

look for the normal output nut and you can move the low output valve over to make use of 4500psi. if you use it as is, you will only probably only 900psi out of it bc of the regulator.

look like you only have one meter and one input valve and one blow off nut. I can't see where the fourth on the other side is. the lp nut rated at 1.8k psi will probably blow off at 1200psi. the hp nut rated to 7.5k psi, but usually there is copper disk in there that blows off at 5k psi to protect the tank from blowing up on you. if you don't have any more hp output holes, then you'll have to use the meter hole to connect a hose to fill your pcp and use your pcp meter to prevent overfill. do keep the hp blowoff nut. the lp nuts are useless unless you are filling only to 1200psi which is mostly it's max. I have like 4 different kind of paintball air tanks where I use to play paintball. They are over their life line from year 2000, so I don't use them for safety.

you need to change that regulator out with one that has higher output psi.other wise you won't be able to fill any higher than maybe 1000 psi on a warm day. look at these

Hey eddielee sorry to keep asking questions, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff as I have never had a pcp before. But here are some more pictures for you to get a better look at.
And THANK YOU for taking time to answer these question, you are a kind person and so are all who are helping. Rob

I don't think it's as simple as just changing the output psi. I'm pretty sure you will need to change the entire regulator out. If someone knows how to change it please chime in and i will stand corrected. i have the exact same tank and it's a high output paintball reg (about 850 psi). when you try to fill your pcp airgun with this it will stabilize at that psi, around 850 psi is all you'll get.

what aaack73 shows is correct that you'll need a regulator to output to 3000psi if that is what you want to spend $90? I'm saying if your tank is not too old and paintball store or firestation will fill it, then you can get away with pulling the meter out and installing a filling hose to that tank. the top is the output with probably only 800psi-1200psi. the nipple is the input for up to 4500psi pressure. you have two blowoff nuts, one says 1800psi and one says 7.5k psi. that is what the nut( with tiny holes) says, it's not the burst disk pressure. take it to a paintball store and ask them that you want 3000psi output pressure w/o changing the regulator, they will tell you the only way is take out the burst disk nut or meter. I would use the meter hole as the burst disk nut to save you in case something happens to get pass 5k psi and that burst disk blows. I have blown my burst disk before from over filling a 3000psi 68cu inch tank. Just like any high pressure tank to have a burst disk.

problem comes to getting parts to install a hose with a shutoff. needs to be all stainless steerl taking pressure to 4500psi. if you think about it, take off the meter will give you that 4500psi 1/8" female thread for a hose. it's the same thread as the fill nipple input. finding the parts are hard. thus, I didn't even bother with paintball tanks, went to steel 3600psi 120 cu feet scuba tanks.

best option for fill hose would be
http://www.airtanksforsale.com/.
to make everything efficient it's gonna take about $275($90 for regulator and about $175 for fill hose assembly with bleeder) to use that tank.for another $100 you could buy one of joe's complete setups or get a scuba set up. you definitely will need a bleed off in that fill hose. my personal experience when i built my fill station out of parts from paintball store and else where, i didn't have a bleed off and was unable to disconnect it even with pliers. 3000 psi has those quick connects locked up tight.

Thank you all, I kind of knew it was too good to be true.
Oh well , would rather pump or have right kind of tank. Really not into blowing body parts off, so i'll wait.
Again thank you for all the information. Rob

go to the dive shops and ask them for used 3550psi steel 120 cu feet tank. I got mine for $150 each. just make sure to pick the latest hydro date( hydro pressure is 5500psi) and they will visual check( needed every year) at that time also with a free fill to 3700psi. then buy the fill station DIN-valve for $29 from Ebay with some o-ring changes to make it work. fill station for 3000psi k-valve are only $16 on ebay. both fill station comes with nipple female quick connect already. and you can get like 40 fills to 3000psi. 80 fills from 2000psi that discovery likes. how much is that. $190 total w/o tax. and no shaking arms after pumping, so you can shoot right after.

thats not a bad option either and beats hand pumping.the dive shop close to me said they would refill the tanks for $5. initial cost $200/40 fills = $5/fill 1st time, then its $5/40fills $.12/fill after that.
