Received my new HW95 at 3:00 pm today!

Was a bit concerned when I saw this in the rifle box but since there was no damage to the large cardboard box I was hopeful....

The HW95 does appears to be the newer design with stock mounting bracket and barrel pivot bloc design"......

I Pulled a patch moistened with WD40 through the bore and two more tight patches, then chrony'd 3 shots. Here's a pic of the first patch before shooting........

The velocity of three shots was 878, 865, and 870 with a 7.9 grain pellet so that's pretty good for a springer straight from the box! As expected, the barrel pivot tension was much too tight, the stock screws were too loose, and the gun twangs like a WV screen door spring in a storm!

I also noticed that CPLs fit considerably tighter in the leade than my "few years old R9".
Anywhoo......I'm liking it!

I bought the HW95 as a "parts store" for the R9 since it was only $299 and even a Rekord trigger block costs about $100. Here's a pic of the first patch pulled through the bore of one of my R9s YEARS AGO and the price tag of the Beeman R9 bought at Rockingham Coop in Virginia gives you an idea of how long ago that was.....

I really do prefer the old "short nose" Beeman R9/new HW95 style stock over the long nose Beeman R9/HW95 Luxus stock so I'm thinking of retiring the R9 with 10s of thousands of shots and using it for replacement pasts if needed.

Anywhoo.....I am thinking of tuning up the new HW95 with a few nced tweaks and keeping the old R9 as a backup/loaner gun.

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't retire a proven shooter- one which I would bet you know very, very well- to be used for parts, and rely on a brand new gun you don't know as well to fill her shoes.  I have to agree on the stock.  I have always thought the HW95 stock with checker in on the grip only, and the shorter, more rounded forearm, looked very classy.  The "luxus" stock doesn't seem like much if an upgrade, although I am sure it cost a little more to make.  Neither does a muzzle brake when compared to the adjustable HW sights.  Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  But what do I know, I am just a average guy that shoots a Chinese springer, and not that often

This morning I took the time to chrony 10 shots from the completely stock HW95 and this is the shot string with tight fitting 7.9 grain die "B" Crosman Premiers.......
881 877 880 884 886 885 883 886 878 887 which gave a velocity spread of 10fps with my sized CPLs which still fit real tight in the leade of the "95".
The gun picked up over 10fps from the velocity I got with the 3 "straight from the box" shots I did yesterday (878, 865, and 870) and there was absolutely no dieseling (or even "smoke in the hole") for any shots, even the 878 fps "1st ever shot" done yesterday.

Will pull a couple more patches through the bore, mount my 30mm tube heavy as a brick and large as a suitcase 3-12x50 Aeon scope (my 3-12 Viper is on the R9) and do some accuracy testing some time this week in "straight stock format".

I do think that this "95" that I got for $329 including shipping is a good one and if it's accurate it will replace the R9 as my primary springer! to chrony 10 shots from the completely stock HW95 and this is the shot string.......

Well......mechanically the R9, HW95 Luxus and plain HW95 are identical except for the "furniture" such as the stock and for the R9 the elimination of open sights (there isn't even tapped holes in the R9 pivot block to mount "irons") and addition of muzzle break (basically a cocking handle) and a set of two piece 1" scope mounts. Since my scopes have 30mm tubes I still needed to buy mounts, even for the R9.

Anywhoo......after mounting a scope and accuracy testing the new "95" I'll know which to make my "go to springer". Hummm....if worse comes to worse I could always simply swap stocks between the HW95 and R9. Normally I've been tearing down brand new R9s for "tweaks and such" before even chronying them, however this time I decided to actually shot some pellets over the chrony sensors and accuracy test it (still to follow) before doing my usual "tweaks and tricks".

Hummm....after buying, tuning and selling a bunch of R9s and one HW95 I didn't have a single one that accurate so I'm thinking that this "95" will follow suit.

Well....I had the Aeon mounted on the R9 for a while complete with sidewheel made from black ABS plumbing fittings  .......

The reason I switched from the Aeon to the Optisan Viper was that the Viper had an "illuminated reticle" feature. While I don't use it often, it is occasionally a necessity when shooting at dark colored (black) field targets set in dark THAGC lanes. Also the reticle of the Aeon is a bit finer and the mill dots are rather small which made aiming at dark targets in the shadows even more problematic. For me the optisan Viper is a more useable scope, however I do have to say that the 3-12x50mm Aeon I have is the most "flare resistant" scope I've owned when sitting in the direct sun!

Well, the one I own as a couple decades old and I bought it from Tim at MAC1 many years ago however he still lists it on his web page........

You can also take some heavy weed wacker string, sharpen a point on one end, melt the other end and press to a cold surface to create a "knob". Simply push the pointy end through the patch and then pull from "breech to muzzle".

Still.....I prefer the CrownSaver since the soft plastic tube the looped string goes through because the softer sleeve would be less likely to wear the crown at the choke area than a hard nylon cord.
