HW100 sk fac 177 accuracy

hi guys. got this gun recently. today received caldwell gun stand so tried accuracy with jsb heavies. 10.6 grains. i made around 15mm on 30 meters. what do you suggest to do to improve accuracy? i was expecting much more from this gun

have you cleaned the barrel ?  tried other pellets ? are certain you did not wobble even the slightest bit between shots ?  lastly, have you shot a few hundred pellets though it to get things to settle in ?

15mm at 30m (0.6" at 33yds) is pretty good especially for an brand new rifle.  As noted: clean bore, shoot about 500 pellets then check accuracy after barrel is a bit more broken in. 

Also trying many different pellets is a good idea too.  Sampler packs are available for most brands that give you a smaller number (and investment) of pellets of many kinds.  There is an on-line seller that makes up his own sampler packs of 25 each of many different kinds.  www.straightshooters.com is the site.  For .177 he has two different kits (round heads and then a mixture of different kinds of target and other pellets to test.  All together that will give you about 35 different kinds of pellets from very light to very heavy to try out.  Each kit is about $25 plus shipping. 

I just published the results of my tests with 2 rifles on about 40 different pellets.   If nothing else it gives a list of a bunch of different pellets to try.  You can see how they did in a low power target rifle and in a high power hunting rifle.  this will take you to it.

      My HW100 will do 1 ragged hole at 30 yards off a front bag. I really didn't see this kind of accuracy until I put 3 tins thru it. Give it some more time, and adjust your trigger to your liking. I set mine at 9 oz. with a long first stage. When the gun was new it was shooting JSB 10.34--4.52 at 1054 fps, and getting 42 shots. This I think is a little to fast, and to much power for FT. After adjusting the regulator, and hammer spring It is shooting 905 fps, and getting 63 shots at 18.65 fpe. This was no easy feat, I had the gun apart more then 40 times adjusting on it. Like I said give it a little more time. Before you take it apart order a couple of extra sets of O-rings. Let us know how you make out.

       Somewhere on another forum, somebody listed all the O-ring sizes. One seal kit from HW is about 22 bucks. By knowing the sizes I bought enough to reseal the gun 6 times for the same money. Give me a day or two to find the link.

If you are shooting at full power with your HW100 FAC, accuracy will likely suffer because the muzzle velocity is too great.  Too fast (over 950 fps maximum) will cause pellet instability.  You can reduce the power level of your HW100 by turning the hammer spring counter clockwise.  You can adjust the regulator by turning it CCW, too (turn the hammer spring and regulator in about a 2:1 ratio i.e. 1 turn CCW of hammer spring and 1/2 turn of regulator screw).

The other important thing is to try different pellets.  Pellets come in different head sizes, shapes, and weights.  One rifle might like JSB, another may shoot H&N best.  Two different rifles might like the same brand of pellet but shoot different head sizes more accurately.

Clean the barrel well and also between different makes of pellets when pellet testing.

One other thing:  you said you received a "Caldwell gun stand".  It is not clear what kind of shooting device this is, but you don't need anything fancy.  Just use a couple of sand bags or a shooting bag like this

A little patience Nikko!!! The rifle isn't even broken in yet!!
You and the rifle don't 'know' each other well yet!
Getting to know what the rifle likes, pellets and holds, is the best part of getting a new rifle!
It's a bit bizarre to take a new rifle out of the box and expect automatic 1/2" 90 yard groups with no effort from the nut behind the butt!!
That rifle is one of the best......give it a chance.

Your rifle is shooting around 1000 fps.  To lower the muzzle velocity without touching the regulator is not difficult.
Take the action out of the stock and remove the air cylinder and dry fire it once to release the pressure in the action.
Remove the plate at the rear of the action (two small hex screws).
Hold the action so the muzzle points up, and the hammer assembly should slide out so you can see it.
There is a grub screw on the hammer assembly; loosen it but be careful so that you don't loosen it so much that it falls out.
There is a hex screw in the center of the hammer assembly.  Loosen it counter clockwise, about half-a-turn to three-quarters of a turn.
Tighten the grub screw and push the hammer assembly back in.  Put the plate back on and put the action back into the stock.   
Test over the chronograph.

The regulator is also easy to adjust, which will increase your shot count per fill, depending on what your muzzle velocity is.  If you want to try that later, just ask.

My HW100 in .177 was adjusted on both the hammer spring and the regulator.  I adjusted it to about 15 foot pounds of energy (8.4 grain pellet at 900 fps) and it got 100 shots per fill.

But as with any rifle, YOU are the deciding factor on how accurate the rifle will be!!
The ONLY way to get the most out of any gun is lots of lead down the tube! You will learn how she likes to be held and her favorite pellet.
Don't look at it like a job.......it's fun getting to know your rifle's likes and dislikes!!

       If you try to take it all out with the hammer spring, and not adjust the regulator you will be wasting air. By going back in my gun and readjusting both, I maintain the same fps, and gain 10 extra shots.

Turn the regulator adjusting screw CCW.  I've adjusted two HW100's and found that a good place to start was to turn the regulator adjusting screw about half-a-turn for every full turn (CCW) the hammer spring has been turned.  When the muzzle velocity has been reduced, you can shoot to a lower air pressure which will give you a greater shot count.  My .177 HW100 was adjusted to about 15 fpe and it got 100 very consistent shots per 200 bar fill; my .22 was adjusted to just under 20 fpe and it got 70 very consistent shots per fill.

I cannot say how much that would reduce the muzzle velocity.  But until you get your chronograph, start by turning back the hammer spring screw one turn CCW.  Adjust the regulator once you get the chrony.  Try different pellets of different weights and different head sizes.  (There's a reason pellet manufacturers make their pellets in a variety of head sizes.)
