Duff's Pizza- Endicott, N.Y.

 I know not to many folks have heard of this place but i'm reaching way back 30 years to what was a local taj mahal of pizzadom for a little kid at my grandparents summer place. Duff was about 60 or older in the 70's and had been making pizza's in the same spot for 40 years, as a 7 year old kid i could eat a whole one by myself, it was ambrosia. Duff died, and my grandparents did and now it's all a memory. I just wondered if anyone grew up in that part of N.Y. and remembers.

  On an incredible side note, Duff's nephew opened a resturant in Charlotte, where i live, just a few years ago. He's got pictures of Duff on the walls and the place is called Zio's, "uncle" in Italian i believe. The pizza is not quite as good but darned close, supposedly the recipies are the same. Pretty cool.  Just wondered if anyone had been to either,    Jeff

ive been to new york once, nice place, plus pizza that kills clevlands pizza!

 Parts of NY are just incredible, mostly mountains and streams, lots of critters. I don't know about the rest of NY's pizza but this place had em all beat

I'm always up for good pizza, although I have made my way to NY state once, and that was back in 1991.
Fortunately for me, we have some outstanding pizza in my area from a company that's been around since the mid 1950s: Pizza King
There's even one of their stores within walking distance of me.

Had a friend in Endicott I'd see once or twice a year until he passed away in the early 90's. Never knew about that Pizzeria because my friend prefered to eat at a diner.

When I lived on Long Island, if I wanted great pizza, all I had to do was go to Andie's in Manorhaven, just north of Port Washington. His 'garbage pie' was additive !!!!

Reb,  I know some people that went to NY city on business and meet some friends.   The friends  said they would take them out for NY pizza and they could not wait for the famous NY pizza treat.   So the friend takes them to the pizza parlor he raves about.   It turned out to be local Pizza Hut.
Talk about disappointment.  But they did not say anything to thier friends not wanting to insult them.   But as one of them said, " they could get Pizza Hut pizza any d@mn where."   And the pizza tasted the same as in Georgia.

That Pizza King pie better be the best, $18 for a cheese pie!!!! Gotta say we've got some incredible pie here in NJ and the best of the best is only $14. Gonna have to get up there to try some!

Uncle paulie, it is rather expensive, and that price is for a 16".
They cut it into squares, the crust is the perfect texture, kind of an in between of thin and regular crust, the sauce is just perfect, and I also really like how they chop instead of slicing the pepperoni.
PK is kind of a local institution, if you count nearly the whole central part of the state as local.

Steve's Pizza in Austin MN. Been there 40 yrs. I've had Chicago and NY stuff. The best there is a Steve's Mama Mia. Homemade sausage, Peperoni, Double Cheese on a thin crust. Heartburn express but it's Soooo Good! (you WILL be tasting it the next day).

We tell the kids that, back in the day of Duff's, it wasn't called pizza but pizza pie.  Not everyone and their brother ate it all of the time.  No PizzaHut, Dominoes, DiGorno, etc, etc.  Mostly small pizza places.  (Hey, Duff didn't serve his own beer, did he?)  




You know, it could be someone from the Simpsons also favored that joint.  "My Name Is Earl" creator used to live over in Maryland, so there were all sorts of references to places around DC in that show.  Street names, people, places.

We have a nice family owned pizza place (carryout) that opened several years ago.  My son was working at the pool here in the neighborhood and he and the other life guards kept talking about this "Mangina" pizza.  Smart people there at "Mangino's", as it is rightfully called.  Gave the boys a free pizza a week for free word of mouth advertising.  And good the pizza is, too!

Papa Murphys take-n-bake is pretty popular in my area too. Pretty good pies when you need to feed an Army. They throw out some pretty good specials.

 All my older relatives called it "pie" feather, i have not heard that in years and no i don't think duff had his own beer but i think he did like everyone elses.

  Thanks for the posts and the pizza king link, that didn't help me any ,  maybe i'll get to zio's and take a picture of a duff recipe pie,, then make it disappear
