Ok I think that about .75 of what I could get a new one for is reasonable, about 330 or so...

but every add I see is $400 + shipping up...

You get no warrantee used why would I pay the same price as new...

Heck even a refurb comes with a better price and a bit of a warrantee... ?

I tend to agree with you. One thing to look for is MOD's they may have done to the gun that would up the price.

I did see a .22 mrod that sold for less than the ones I have been seeing(stock) and it had the good mods, war valve etc...

Generally, when a used gun sells for a high percentage of the original price, it's a pretty good indication (of both demand and satisfaction). Not so good for the buyer, but it would indicate that you'd be able to get away from it without losing too much $ if it turns out not to be for you.

Then again, for so little $ difference, may as well wait a little bit for a sale and buy new.

For what it is worth.
If I am buying a used gun (air or otherwise), I don't want them with any modifications.
Could be dangerous in the wrong hands, don't you agree?

It is not about that for me...

New you can send it to Crosman if it has probs that develop in the first year(if you can keep from modding it

)

Used you have no protection and would have to fix it yourself...

even a refurb you get some protection and at lower price than I see for the used synrods...

I just do not get paying $70+ more than new for used...

Depends on if I trust the person who did the work...

If it is not done by a known tuner with a good rep then a tear down and inspect or I pass...

There has been a recent drop in new prices for some Marauders.

Wood stock guns cost more and hold a higher resale value than the plastic stock Marauders. New wood 25 M-rods are $530 at Walmart.

Refurbs are marked as refurbs and have a lower resale value than a non-refurb used gun. Refurbs can be just fine, so if you can find one, buy one. They sell out quick and are not often available.

If there is a problem with a gun, it is usually found out early and either returned (to become a refurb) or fixed under warranty. If I have a problem, I fix it myself anyway, so warranty really isn't that meaningful to me - unless there is a problem with the gun when I first get it.

Used price should depend on condition and quality of the specific gun. If it shoots precise groups and has a good tune, that should be worth more than one that doesn't. It also depends on supply and demand of the model you're seeking. The 25 M-rod is usually a very good gun at a reasonable price. I wouldn't sell mine for even $600. Properly benchrested, it shoots JSB Kings into a single hole just a little bigger than one pellet at 40 yards. None of my other airguns shoot nearly that well.

Now my 22 M-rod is another story. I should have given that thing away for free to avoid all the frustration and money wasted on it trying to get it to shoot nearly as well as my 25 M-rod.

By the time you put all that effort and research into finding a used one, you could just buy new.

There are many discounts out there. There is a 10% from Pyramyd Air and also a 15% discount from Crosman. Most offer free shipping.

As others have said, the PCP world is extremely dangerous if you do not know what has been done to them. People can tell you all day that they haven't modded them or been inside of them, but you never know. 3000 psi is a bomb waiting to happen that I would want to know the complete history on. New personally.

I'd suggest provenance and the reputation of the builder would play a huge role for me. I just bought two custom airguns, both highly modified, but the previous owner had not a clue as to who built them or what had gone into the custom work. He was a collector and hadn't even shot the things, just had them for a few years along with a bunch of other airguns and other stuff he collected. He'd tried selling them in various forums but had no success, my guess being that everyone was shy about investing in unknown quality of work. His price finally came down far enough that I was willing to buy them. I've since taken them apart and found that the inside work was, for the most part, very solid. Still don't know the maximum safe working pressures, but I can guess, low-ball it a little, and be safe as the tubes are known types and the rest of the enclosures are solidly done. Had to replace some chewed-up O-rings in one is all, owing to sloppy assembly by whoever last worked on it.

So for this sort of situation I'd not pay a premium price. I paid about half what he was originally asking, and with the amount of work and cost of parts I'm going to put into them both to get them the way I like they'll be considerably more valuable. Perhaps after I've shot them for a couple of years I might sell one as I don't really have a need for too many airguns. If I do, I'll be able to hand the buyer a write-up on all the internals, describing in detail what's been done and what pressure it's worked at for that period of time without failures or leaks, what sort of pellet it likes and how many shots it gets on a fill, along with a graph showing velocities tested. That sort of information is reassuring. If a seller can't provide that, or if you do not feel confident about what's being said about an airgun, I'd suggest staying away from it at whatever price unless you feel comfortable taking the thing apart and doing your own work on it. Value is only added when a custom modded airgun is a known quantity. An unknown build is almost like a bomb, just waiting to explode in your face when you fill it with very high pressure air. Not a risk worth taking at any price.

Wow Norm I do belive that BEATS all the other deals... and I am seriously thinking of jumping on it...

I would have to just look at it for a few months till I could get it paid off and then get the hill pump...

I am guilty of wood mrod .25 and hill pump taste with a Disco and Benji pump budget...

. That's why I looked at used...

But so far it does not look good for finding a .25 synrod for 350 shipped used... and I do think that is reasonable for many of the above reasons... (and what I would expect to get) (but I hardly ever sell things).

And dang the refurb hill pumps are gone

It makes no sense to me to get used for 400+ shipping when you have this deal...

Man can I talk you into temporary dementia and make the 4th last to the 6th or so...

I have already been told that I will get a Marlin .22mag(new) barrel (to mod for it) for an early B-day present if I pick up a Mrod....

For what it is worth, I had many of the Hill pumps and I didn't like them. The quality on them wasn't all that people say it is in my experience. There is a 4th generation I believe, which they may have fixed a lot of the issues.

I had a few of the Benjamin pumps and they all worked pretty flawlessly for me. I had an issue with one of them and they quickly sent me a rebuild kit, so excellent customer service.

I had an issue with galling in a new Hill pump and they wouldn't do anything about it. Thankfully Pyramyd Air took care of it. So if you buy anything, buy it through Pyramyd.

yep, If you check some of my past post you will see that I have been saying the same thing for quite a while... Part of why I have stuck with just modding Crosman pumpers for a good while... and an incorrect mod has exploded a 13xx valve at about 1500psi... (Not me)

with the amount of experience found here I do feel that with advice I am capable of doing some mild mods after I use it as a stock with just a hammer spring mod for a good while... I do have some long term goals for it though... (Boolits)

Wood stock .25 ordered just can not see buying used when Norms NEW price beats most Used prices I have seen... and I do not see that improving...

It is my AG budget for the year but Have a few things to sell to help rebuild that fund...

I already have some 25g Kings , 20.1g FTT and gamo .25s that I was using in my 1325XLT...

The 22" Marlin 22mag barrel will be ordered tomorrow(I love early B-day) but that will not be modded till late this year...
