I have an older HW35 (1979) in amazing condition. I was just wondering which spring kit would be the best. I tried the Vortek H.O kit and it was way too powerful and shock the gun apart. So I was thinking of either the Maccari kit or the Vortek 12 ft/lb one.Any one try either of these? How do these work with the leather piston seal? I'm not trying to get big power just want a smooth gun. Thanks
Have a Vortek "HO" in my 35 and it shoots just fantastic !! Sharp snappy shot cycle having really no jolt or vibration present.Krytox / Ultimox 226 lubes used threw out.

I would cut a coil off at a time until you get the power you are looking for. I have three springs for my 350 mag, a shortened stock spring that broke for low power ( 850fps-8.4gr), a vortek pg2 and a Titan spring, last two give me 950fps with 10.5 gr. The Titan spring I had to cut , it was too powerfull.
Save yourself the hassle of cutting coils on the Vortek spring and just buy the Macarri spring. There are other variables besides coil count in springs. The Macarri was designed to be specific to the HW35. After much experimentation Macarri concluded increases in power for the HW35 resulted in substantial increases in recoil. It ruined the smoothness of the design. The unique short stroke just won't absorb the additional shock of the power increase without a corresponding unusually high amount of recoil or snap. Not to mention the corresponding cocking effort. For the power increase it is a great deal more recoil increase than a typical long stroke gun like an R9/HW95/HW50 etc. The HW35 is one gun best left at its original power level. If you want to hot rod a medium springer get an HW50.
I appreciate what you're saying, but ...My cost of cutting down Vortek spring: $0.00.My cost Maccari kit: $79.00.Mycost of Macarri spring: $20.00. But will it fit Weihraich internals?Cutting down the Vortek spring is still the cheapest (and who knows, possibly best?) option.Just some things to think about as I have been there and done that with cutting coils. You can sell/trade the unmolested Vortek spring if you don't cut the spring. If you cut the spring it is pretty much worthless. By experimenting with cutting the spring you will have to take the gun apart and put it back together multiple times. The odds of scratching/marring the blueing etc are higher as well as damaging or losing another part. You could also have a problem with the altered spring in a short time or not have it come out to your liking and wind up buying another spring anyways. All you need from Maccarri is the spring. It was specifically designed for the HW35 so of course it will fit. Tom/Vortek makes great seals etc so you don't need a kit. If you don't want to buy the Maccari I would send your current spring back to Tom as the other poster suggested. Tell him you want factory stock energy level. I would let him cut it way before I would cut it myself. Tom speaks fluent "springese". I still don't believe you will have as good as spring as the Maccarri but it will be tamer.
Nothing wrong with cutting coils....done it more than a few times..SHO = 142 wire x 23 coils vs PG2 135 wire x 23= Big difference. I don't believe cutting off a few coils will get you where you want to be.I'd call them up ...you can exchange the kit .... you'll more than likely be better off to have Tom knock a coil -1/2 off the 135 wire and it will tame it just fine.
