Cocking an R9 Goldinger?

Ok, probably a stupid question, but I don't want to mar a nice rifle. It has that alloy muzzle end-piece on it, secured with an allenhead screw. Is that on there solid enough to use that as a cocking handle? I am thinking there might be risk of stripping it off of there, with the allen screw marring the finish.

Yes, it is secure enough to use as a handle.  Just make sure your set screws are secure, just in case.

I've got one,too. I loctited(blue) the set screw to be sure. That puppy's on there, no problems.

Mine's never budged over a few thousand shots. I've not taken it off or even checked the set screws. It's just been solid.

The "muzzle end piece" often called a "muzzle break" is indeed only a cocking handle. The anodized (or whatever is is) finish resists "wearing off" much better than blued steel. With blued steel barrels I've seen where the bluing has been worn away from cocking and perhaps the salt in "hand sweat" contributed to removing the bluing.

Side note........
With my .177 R9 scopes and rings shift rearward from the recoil, not forward so the "muzzle break" won't slide forward and I've never had mine get loose after a few years of steady use.
