As I was having lunch I picked up the classified section of the "Denver Post"..no particular reason.  It was really thin..I happened to be on the 'Help Wanted' section.  There was a total of just 20 ads for help wanted.  About 2 1/2 half collums.  That is unbelievable.  For a metro area of over 3 million and only 20 adds for help .  I can remember when there were page after page after page of advertisements for help when the population was around 3/4 of million in the metro region.

Maybe employers dont use the paper for seeking empoyees anymore.

I give thanks that I am in an easy retirement and feel sorrow for those who are looking for work.

I think it is a sign of the times. So many free classifieds online that not many people will spend money advertising in a paper. Not that there is an overabundance of jobs but I see it in every area. Craigslist is a prime example. Thousands of adds there but hardly any classified adds in any of the local papers around this area.

Drifter,  I don't believe a decent job has been listed in the News Paper in these parts for 35 years.  A sample of the jobs is either ditch digger or rocket scientist.   Nothing in between.    All the well paying jobs are had by info from a friend or a family member.   You almost have to inherit the good jobs here in East Central Georgia.  And I have lived in some communities  where that is the actual case.

Bogey, it seemed like the majority of jobs I read about were telemarketing, loan collection and delivery drivers.  Nothing where a guy could set his teeth into.  My son has a job but he is way under employed for his degree.  My daughter is a stay at home mother of 3 and they just make it from payday to payday.  Dang!...I hope we get this turned around.  It aint good.

   I think anyone who reads a little deeper than cbs,nbc,abc and fox will at least consider that we may be in the beginning of a catastrophic financial collapse, a very serious one for sure and there is no for sure way to get us out of it.  1/5th of our population has either opted out and quit looking, retired early or is still looking for full time employment. With the coming inflation hit, fuel, food, energy, clothes and about everything else will soon go dramatically up, the best thing for folks to do is either work 2 or 3 or 4 part time jobs to get ahead or to really crimp down on spending so as to get by with less. Hopefully in a few years new political policies and freemarket  innovation as well as "git er done" spirit will boost things up for us, we've never been down for long   J

I think they would have been better off just letting the chips fall when this all started. They're still pumping cash into the system and the only thing it's going to do is up the ante when inflation really kicks in. At that point, the only thing they will be able to do to stop it is to completely stop adding money to the economy. Same net result. They are only delaying the inevitable, but the wounds will be deeper.
