A vintage pumper can be set-up to impact your chosen zero range on say, 4 (or any number of) pumps and then you can shoot to find out where the 6 pump impact/zero is and so forth. You end up with the number of pumps determining the impact range without having to change the sight picture or mechanically adjust the sights! This technique is even more versatile when using 'clock face' type of sighting. IE: Dead on center of the target item for dead on impact, 6:00 picture for a slightly closer target item and 12:00 picture for a slightly farther target item.

Good point. I thought about that and will do some experimenting when I have the time. I'd have to keep notes, of course, but looks like it would work. One more in the plus column for the pumpers.

Nice shooting NCG, I have a early 80's Silver Streak on the way. It will be my 2nd pumper. The other was a 50's Benjamin 312. I really didn't care for it. I always felt like I was going to break it when I pumped it. Lol.

I have some JSB's but have been thinking about trying some vintage Sheridan pellets. Do you have any experience with those?

Hi Ed.

Yes, have used them for many years. By all means try the vintage yellow box Sheridan pellets. It's part of the Sheridan experience and most of us who shot Blue Streaks back in the day used them, though mostly because that's all that was available. Use them for plinking and you'll be fine. Accuracy-wise, though, they're limited. Just not what they're all about.

Though they are pricey, the JSBs, above, that I used in this test are heads and shoulders above anything else I've tried and that includes the current production Benjamin 20s. Get a tin or two and see what your Blue Streak can really do.

I have always gotten better accuracy with the JSB Exacts, but better penetration with the old Sheridan pellets. The JSB's were shooting 50 fps faster.

Not surprised. I used to do a lot of squirrel and rabbit hunting, back in the day, with a Blue Streak and those old Sheridan yellow box pellets. Never had an issue with penetration. Still have a few of those yellow box pellets and shoot them, now and then for old time's sake.

Yep, been shooting sheridans since 65 using the red cans. They had no issue as far as accuracy. Later on they did and I went the Crosman Premier route. They were tops for years until they started falling off and now the JSBs are the top choice. But the earlier premiers were better than them and had better penetration because they were harder. My FWB and my Sheridans out to 50 yds are about the same in accuracy -under an inch-plenty for head shots. My 1973 SS.

It was the Green Tin Benji High Compression .22 pellet that my Benji liked, picked them up at the Mark Fore and Strike in Reno.

They worked well with the 2200 also.

Bryan. that one isn't mine. Was agreeing with NCG that his was a nice looking gun. I am amassing a nice collection tho. Just picked up a sweet little 130 pistol from another member. I've got 8 or 10 of the Chinese B guns to get rid of locally before I build the collection any further... of course... if a deal comes along to good to pass ..... well.... you know

Funny you should mention that, Justin.

Took my mint 1972 Streak out this week. It's all stock, factory open sights and all. Got it from an elderly gent who could no longer pump it. He was the original owner and it came with the invoice, manual and all. He really babied this gun and I will, too. It's one of the most prized guns in our collection. It will stay exactly the way it came from the factory. I have other Dans that I will mod, but not this one.

Those open sights really are tough to shoot at 50 for me because that rear sight is so close to my eye. Blurry as all get out with these old eyes. Front sight isn't bad and that's why I can shoot better with a peep. I love a challenge, though, so had to try.

Was really tough to get five consecutive shots to stay in a group. Managed quite a few inch and a quarter, inch and a third groups, but have yet to break the 1" barrier, though the way the gun can stack pellets in two or three shot groups tells me the gun is every bit as accurate as our other Dans. I just need younger eyes to sharpen up that rear sight.

I will keep trying, though. I do love a challenge and these are such great guns to shoot.

You might try a small hole punched into a piece of thin silicone wrap/tape that will stick to your glasses, safety/shooting or prescription, to help clear up that rear sight. I have tried this with a ~1/2" piece high on the right lens and near the bridge of my nose and it worked well.

I didn't like it for plinking/pesting but it should work for shooting rested groups.
