Pyramyd's 4 for the price of 3 pellet sale--what would you order for an HW30S?

I'm afraid I've about worn out my welcome with HW30S questions, but I am going to indulge on your good grace for one more!

I asked about .177 pellets and discovered an almost universal love for JSB Exact RS 7.33. I can add the 4-for-3 to the HW30S order and get 10% off and free shipping, so this is a good time to get some pellets.

I was in the same position, last November, when I started my daily workouts with the HW30S. At the time, all I had to shoot were the F&N FTTs and an assortment of various wadcutter target pellets like the R10s and the like. Those pellets did just fine for my 10 meter offhand shooting. The biggest issue was that every brand and model of pellet shot to a different POI, so I spent a lot of time tweaking my sights.

At the time, everyone, here, encouraged me to get those JSB Exacts, but they were out of stock, everywhere. I will definitely be ordering some, myself.

Bill--If  I were getting pellets for MY HW30S, I would get one tin of ea. JSB RS 7.33, JSB Express 7.87, JSB Exact 8.44 & one H&N Match Rifle 8.18 gr wad cutter with a 4.51 head size.  These shoot well in MY HW30S.  I don't shoot the wadcutter past 20 yds. or so and it does very well if it aint too windy.  Just my .002.

I would try more than one pellet if it were me.  I would get one or two tins of the JSB 7.3 and a tin of the JSB 7.87 amd possibly a tin of the JSB 8.4.  I do not see the H&N FTT 8.4.  If it was available, I would try it also.  It would offer some variety amd give you some options to try.  Airguns are individuals, and what shoots well in one gun may not do well in another of the same model.

If you want the fastest shooting pellet, go for the 7.33 gr.  It probably will shoot well, but you will never know unless you try the others.  All will probably shoot decent.

If you "only" get 4 tins, I'd get the JSB 7.3, JSB 7.9, JSB 8.4 and a tin of H&N 8.64 Field Target Trophy pellets.  All are domes and double for paper target shooting and longer distance pest removal.  Then, get some Crosman Premier Hollow Point 7.9 locally if possible.  That should be a good, well rounded assortment of high quality domed pellets to try out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really appreciate them. I don't fill as blind making my order--but my rifle cannot afford to get hooked on the 7.87's.

I don't really plan to shoot from a bench and try to get that sort of precision, if it makes a difference in the selection. I realize, though, that any shooting desires the most accurate pellets as long as the return is worth the cost.

One question about the H&N FTT 8.64: Pyramyd says the round nose is 4.52mm (same as JSB) and the domed is 4.5mm. Will the domed be more loose or will it matter?

After you find that perfect pellet that the gun just loves you may want to consider going to Walmart and picking up a Daisy assortment pack. My .177 spring rifles like the hollow points and they are dirt cheap. Arigun Depot has them in a 500 pellet tin for $4.29. They shoot more than good enough for plinking out to 20 yards and hit hard enough to knock off varmints at close range. Your gun may like the points, wad cutters or none of them? The only way to know is give them a try.

No difference. Round nose = domed.

For my HW 30S I have tried the H&N FTT in various head sizes, and the JSB's in the RS, Express and Exact versions @ 12 meters (the length of my basement range.) The RS didn't do well for me, all over the place. The best for my rifle was the JSB Express, with the JSB Exacts and the FTT (in 4.51mm) not far behind. The FTT in 4.50 and 4.52 mm were OK but not as good as the above mentioned bests. I think my rifle does better with pellets in the 7.5-7.9 grain range. It certainly shoots better with that weight.

So I generally shoot the JSB Express with that rifle.

Anybody know why the JSB's Expresses cost so much more than the JSB Exacts?

Go to Wally World and pick up a tin of Crosman Destroyers. 7.4grn and shot good enough for my uses. They run about $2.35 a tin of 250.  I tried some of the better Pell's and for all practical purposes the Destroyer's were just fine

My R7 seems to prefer the AA 7.33 gr. over the JSB 7.33 gr. pellet.  I dunno'.....

Pyramyd's competitor, Straightshooter.com sells sampler kits that include 25 each of most available pellets. Others do to but don't appear to have as extensive a kit.   By the time I got done I actually have 55 different pellets to play with.  I am going through a series of tests with them right now in two different rifles - FWB300 and RWS54 to cover both ends of the power spectrum. 

That approach won't help you with the Pyramyd sale but makes for a busy summer for me. 

As many have said, each air rifle has a different favorite pellet so you really do have to test them at some point.
