Stoeger X5 .. surprised me today

I dug out a couple of my 177cal rifles to shoot today and the last was my "plinker" a Stoeger X5

Now she is not a powerhouse though I do like the fact that it is very easy to cock.  the trigger is, well not great or even good though I did tweak it a little to smooth things out some.  It is no where in the same ballpark as a GRT trigger mind you.

Well she did so well at 15 yards I kicked it out to my normal 25 yards just to see.  When I hit a 5 shot group the size of a dime I looked up and said holy cow.  Apparently my "plinker" is not just a plinker with a group like that at 25 yards.

I just may tear it down again and do a little more on the trigger as I have to be VERY careful to not pull when I squeeze.

I'm a firm believer that springers that shoot under 12 fpe are inherently easier to shoot than anything that has more power! Nice shooting! I'm shipping a Ruger Blackhawk off to Mike as soon as I can to get an 11 fpe tune on it!

When I just want to have some quiet plinking fun, the X5 is my go to favorite. It's easy to cock, accurate out to 25yds, and light weight. It was one of the best $80 I ever spent. It is also a great gun to begin learning the art of fine tuning air rifles.

My Mom has the X5 and I concur Geoff, shoots really well at 25 yards.

my bird feeders are 16 yards from my window and the X5 is now my starling gun.  not enough power to do much damage to my fence and hopefully not enough to pass through.

IF I find it to be underpowered for this purpose (I doubt it will be) I will change to a higher FPE rifle as even on starlings I don't want them to suffer

It should do awesome Geoff! I'm getting a detuned Blackhawk as an "around the house" pest gun for when my 30 fpe QB is too much.
