Well this is my 2nd weekend with the HW98 and I decided it was time to move outdoors and start stretching it out. I have felt kind of crammed up on this thing during the shot as compared to my TX200, to the point where my neck actually hurts after shooting. I started out by readjusting the scope as far front as possible so I no longer had to move my head back during set-up. Next, I took a bunch of measurements from the TX200 and adjusted the 98 to match as closely as possible. Actually lowered the cheek piece and raised the recoil pad. I also adjusted the angle of the recoil pad to fit the contour of my shoulder. The rifle now shoulders squarely with no twisting as I set up against the recoil pad.

Here is the final position and angle I ended up with;

With all adjustments made it was time to head to the range to test it out. Since every single weekend has been windy around here, I decided to get up at 6:15, make some coffee and head for the outdoor range down at my parents house. It was breezy but not what I would consider gusty by any stretch. I set up at 30 yards to set my zero and to play around with bag positioning. The new adjustments to the rifle were perfect!! No more cramming and I felt much more relaxed. And the results.....WOW, talk about consistent!!! I stuck with the Air Arms Diabolo Field 8.44 (4.52) since they had been laser beam accurate and consistent during my initial 13-yard testing. The AA Diabolo's continued to show their consistency at 30 yards and so did the rifle

Multiple tight, concentric groups over and over, I was extremely pleased

The breeze seemed to let up a little, so I decided to set up and give it a try at 50 yards before it kicked up again. Two shots to see how much holdover was needed, and then I rolled right in with a 5-shot group. I was blown away!! 7/16" c-t-c, easily covered with a dime

The breeze picked up again as quickly as it had gone so I grabbed the TX and finished up with more 30 yard shooting until it got too windy even for that.

I am extremely pleased with the HW98 so far! Motorhead, you knocked another one out of the park.....THANK YOU

And here is the 50 yarder...first an only 50 yard group out of this rifle so far

Congratulations! Fantastic shooting! You couldn't ask for anything better. Great tune (motorhead) and stock work (you)!

I wonder how many folks just lost their savings because of this and a couple of your earlier posts.

After you get a few more rounds down the barrel let us know of the tx verses the hw98 as far as hold sensitivity.

Nice shooting Steve. The 98 is the only break barrel I have found I like. Guess we will be seeing that one next weekend. That makes 3 of us with them.

VERY nice shooting, Steve! 4 more groups like that from 50 and you win the prize! I hear Joe's donated his Pro Sport to the first springer to do 5 moa groups at 50!

You got it! After I spend some more time with both rifles I'll give you my perspective on the differences between them.

WOW!! You weren't kidding about the HW98!! Now I see what you were talking about. Incredible rifle, I have been flyin' high all day long after taking it outside for the first time this morning. It's only got about 275 shots through it so far and it is getting better the more I shoot it

WHOA!!! Now that would be a nice prize indeed!! I can't imagine five of these in a row

I will say there was no special effort put into this group though. When I felt the breeze let up a little, I quickly set up and shot my group before the wind picked up again. I am VERY pleased with this rifle and the Motorhead tune, it has exceeded my expectations this early in the game

Got back out with the 98 again tonight. Tonight was not a half inch at 50 kind of night, but the rifle was still very consistent. Here is my 50 yard group of about 20 shots. Sub 1", but the half inch just wasn't happening today. I was really pleased with how consistent the grouping is on this rifle. No surprises, just drops them right in leaving the rest to me

Tuned or not the R11/HW98 is a great shooting rifle. I will put my untuned R11 up against my tuned TX, or any other spring gun, any day of the week. They aren't cheap and have been passed over for years for the fixed barrel TX and 97 but they shoot just as good if not better. Enjoy.

How true!
I was sold on the belief that fixed barrel was more accurate than break barrel.
After shooting the 98 I NO longer believe that idea.
I love my fixed barrels and have some of the best......but I would put my 98 against any under or side lever!
I have to admit I never thought a break barrel could be as consistent as a fixed barrel......I believe now! Very surprised this isn't a more popular gun.

No doubt about it, the HW98 has changed my thoughts on break barrel vs fixed too. The lockup is so darn solid, and its just an all around well balanced rifle. That added weight on the barrel is nice. I have found it shoots best by shifting slightly foreward of balance point on the front bag, using that barrel weight for added stability.

I wonder how the AA Pro Elite compares? Seems to be a very similar break-barrel design as the 98.

Well my RX2 is in the same class for repeatable accuracy it is definitely right there with the fixed barrel springers. I only wish it were just a little lighter maybe a walnut stock version. to knock off a pound or so

It is fast becoming my favorite springer 20 FPE @ 910FPS with the Beeman FPS 11.34gr pellets and dead on accurate
