Coming over to the dark - my 1701P arrives today

My 2300T pistol broke on Sunday and is going back to Crosman. After 100 or more pellets a day since November, the valve seal is shot and the bolt is coming undone.
My 22 cal pistols are too loud shooting inside, so I needed another 177 for targets. It's a perfect excuse to go ahead with the 1701P. Realistically it's the one I should have bought instead of the 2300T.
Waiting for the delivery truck to arrive ...

Congrads! I almost got one myself.
I am not sure how noisy it is, but adding a 1720T shroud and baffles would be any easy and reasonable mod, if needed.
I look forward to your comments.

OTB the 1701 is quieter than my 2300S was at the same velocity. Sounds different, a little more muted. The 1701 is a better pistol in all respects. Have fun, you're gonna need lots of pellets!

WOW, it's great!
I put on the Williams rear sight from my 2300T and pumped it to around 2000 psi. It was so close it only took 10 pellets to get it sighted in for my short range ( 13 feet ).
Shoot a bunch of pellets.
Go pump it up to 3000, which didn't take many pumps on a Benji pump. It's around 5 - 6 to get the hose pressurized and another 20 to fill the gun. (I have to count next time ...)
Shoot more pellets.
Pump it up again...
Shoot more pellets.
To understand the dark side requires repetition!
Next I move to the longer range and adjust the trigger. It's shooting around 450 fps with SuDos (RWS Superdomes, 8.4 gr). More details and pictures later. Thanks for the cookies!

Bought mine used, a 1700 before there was a 1701, but other than having to work on the trigger a bit (the 1701 has a better system) it’s the same critter.
Wonderful little PCP, can power it up but it loses some of its best characteriatics when you do.
Did put a shroud on mine (and add a front sight to the shroud), but it’s pretty quiet in factory form.

dWood: The accuracy is amazingly good, not too pellet picky (some pellets are just made so poorly that nothing can shoot them well), and at the factory power level, the number of shots per fill long. Nothing bad to say about the pistol.
Makes a pretty handy little carbine too.
mobileman: We're a little short of grip makers right about now, and if I remember you right, are a lefty which complicates things. The plastic ambi-grips really aren't bad feeling and I do use them by preference on other pistols.

Sadly, no more RB grips.
I haven't used them, but have seen some positive comments on forums:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/rgoi1994/m.html?item=261811704996&hash=item3cf53194a4&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
and just noticed this when getting that link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crosman-2240-1377-wood-pistol-grip-Right-Handed-Target-Grip-Bubinga-Exotic-Wood-/231508371075?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e6f96683
The biggest issue I have had with the plastic grips is the creeping under compression. That can be fixed with some JB weld.

Where is the Crosman custom shop?? Their woods grips "look" nice, just don't know about feel, since I don't have one. A C/S 1701 would be sweet.

I tried to attach a photo today and wasn't able to post. How do I attach photos to a post? I have a picture of my new 1701P and my 2300KT to share ...
I tried installing my wood grips from my CCS 2300 KT (it's a 22 cal), but the trigger adjust wheel hits on the inside. I may do some woodwork to get them to fit, but I'm also looking for a good set of grips. I find that the OEM grips have too much flex. I can feel them move when I squeeze. I will check out some of these other options for grips. I'm also a lefty, although I like ambidextrous grips as well.
This pistol is a joy to shoot. I love being able to shoot 50 or 60 shots with ease and hit so many bullseyes. And pumping it up again is a breeze.
The accuracy is very good. I'm shooting one handed at 18 feet ( 5.5 meters ) and it goes where I point it. The trigger was too sensitive, but I adjusted it and now it's back to practice.

Can usually make a 2240 set of wood grips fit…depends on the thickness and how it was made to fit a 2240 frame.
This is an old 1700 and I’m not sure if the 1701 had some major changes or not (but as these modded grips will fit a P-Rod, it should work on a 1701). Difference is in the INSIDE of the grip frame outline, not the outside. Basically, in the below picture, it’s the upper right of the inside of the grip frame.
So thr two parts that can give trouble are the upper right corner and the large knurled nut for spring tension.
To get the 2240 grips to fit, had to cut a groove for the adjusting nut and trim the inside inletting.
These laminate grips were made with a section designed to fit INSIDE the grip frame, so the corner had to be cut to match the new grip frame. If your grips were made to lie on TOP of the grip frame, should only have to deal with the adjusting nut (which is a problem if the grip panels are thin).

Ribbonstone: The trigger assembly looks different for the 1701P as shown in the first picture below. The grips from the Custom Shop are shown in the next picture. They are also inset into the handle, but mostly clear the new trigger spring. I had to remove a small spot on the rear side of the inlet so the trigger weight knob would clear.
I have now switched the grips as shown in the third picture. The wood grips feel better than the stock grips and fit the size of the pistol better. The slight flex that I noticed is gone and it feels more precise. It's funny, but I don't notice the flex now that the OEM grips are on my 2300KT.
It's great to have a PCP pistol. When I was using CO2 I was alwayds counting shots so I would know when it was about to run low. Now I just check the gauge.
