Just sent out the money for a tuned hw97, 177cal., beech stock. Cant wait to get it!!!!!! I believe he is going to leave the B&K one piece mount on it. I passed on the 3 to 9 scope as i want maybe a 4 to 16 instead. Very exited this is going to be great! Do you guys think it will be able to outshoot my benji 392
He is throwing me a tin of pellets also so i can start shooting right away as i have all 22cal. here. Any suggestions on which pellets to order first?

Congratulations! I can understand your excitement and feeling of anticipation. For pellets try H&N Field Target Trophy and JSB Exact, both of which are available in different head sizes. You'll have to test to find which your rifle shoots most accurately.

Congrats, I would put my money on the HW97 for accuracy, although I have never shot a Benji 392. Mine will drill one hole groups at 10 yds regularly. As soon as it gets warm and quits raining I want to try it at 25-30 yds. The 97's were the FT champions for a number of years as I understand it.

For sure Tomcat. Mine is really consistantly accurate also . Ive set my zero to 10 metres. As soon as I get time to do some Ballistics Data I'll post the velocity I'm getting using round head .22 cal 13.88 grain.

I need to make first purchase of 177 cal.pellets and now i see as Grauhanen said that some of the pellets have different size heads. I am ready to order a jsb sampler (3- 3.52 head and 1- 3.5 head), H&N field target trophy 8.64 gr 4.51 head , rws r10 match heavy 8.2 gr 4.5 head. the 4th(freebie) is just some jsb 18 gr for my 22 benji. Am i missing anything that i should be trying? Also i am wondering if i should purchase the TH stock the fellow who sold me the gun has (the synthetic one) could probably grab that for $60?

Great! Give us a picture when you get it.
Pellets.... JSB, FTT are the usual suspects but I have had better results with RWS Superdomes and the Crosman Premier Hollow Points (CPHP) in mine. Those last two have better fit in mine and engage the rifling better. I brought my HW77K (same action as 97) down to about 13 fpe from the stock power level.
Enjoy and keep us updated. Oh, and I think once you get used to shooting a spring gun, it will out shoot your 392 but it will be a close race!

Hey Russell, congratulations on your purchase of a fine rifle
I am more of a nice wooden stock guy myself, but I would probably snag that synthetic thumb hole stock if it could be had for $60... seems like a fair deal and you could always resell it and get that money back if you don't like the look or feel of it.
Enjoy your new rifle and have fun!
