Optics glare

I noticed the other night when I was out shooting Nutria that I was getting some killer glare off the street lights that surround the area.
Any inexpensive ideas to keep that to a minimum? Before I buy a sun shade I would like to try something on the cheap. Tonight I may try a paper towel tube cut
down the middle and rubber banded to the scope just to see if that helps. I am currently using a Hawke 6-24x44.

I don't intend to sound rude here, but I think it bears pointing out that you have a Hawke scope on your rifle - a brand not exactly known for its low prices.
Just get the sunshade, man.

I had to wear polarized sunglasses to see through the glare of the ocular lens of the centerpoint rifle scopes I used breifly.
Paint the inside of the paper tube flat black or line with flat back paper to kill reflected light off the inside.
