why would you prefer it in a pistol? wouldnt it be more stable as a carbine? and if you do keep it as a pistol what length barrel would you go with?

Personally I would not choose either for hunting. Sure it would work but if you are going to kill things up to the size of rabbits you are talking squirrels also and I just don't feel that either of the 13xx guns are suitable for squirrels at 35 yards.
Probably just me...

From your given target and distance, I choose modded 1377. I can get 828.7fps with 20 pumps. I only do 5-6 pumps (600fps) with feathered varmints under 20 yrds. Nutters I use 10 pumps (707fps) with 7.9 CPHP.

even a stock 1377 with h&n .177 at 530 fps will have 3 fpe at 25 yards. that would be max range for a squirrel, and u better make sure you hit it in the fusebox. birds i'll extend to 35. pass that only inanimate objects.

I think the 35 yard range is a little excessive. I would keep the range to around 20 yards. But I am going to say .177. I think you will need the penetrating power of the smaller round at that range to effectively get to the vitals. I plan on squirrel and rabbit hunting with mine if the opportunity presents itself but I am going to keep sub 20 yard shots, and I plan on using the pointed pellets for the extra penetration. I shot a tree rat last year with my Daisy 880 with a pointed pellet at 16 yards. I hit him broadside in the vital area of the chest. He dropped pretty quickly. When I skinned him I found the pellet under the skin on the side opposite of what I shot with no deformation. I think if I would have shot him with something like a destroyer, I probably would not have reached the vitals. The Daisy 880 I expect is shooting right around what the modified 1377 will shoot.

Modded or stock I would stay within the 25yrd mark. You can have a hot rod of a pistola but you still have to hit your mark. I dropped this G-hog last year with a bone stock 1377 at 15yrds with a CHP pellet, hit the fusebox and the rest will follow. Ed

Shadow, did you paint the grips yourself? If so how well did the paint hold up?

Yes I painted the grip's and along with other paint camo and styles. The top left one is wood grain effect and the bottom two are camo patterns. The paint hold's up fine if prepped properly. Ed
