Which gun will last longer a 22 rimfire or springer/NP

After finally getting my NP2 where I want it, I started wondering how long it will shoot at this level. Having not shot any of my .22 rimfires as much as I shot this gun, it got me thinking which gun would give the most shots, on average, before breaking down or wearing out.

Generally, 22 rimfire has fewer things to go wrong than a springer, so your 22lr should be good for decades and decades of shooting.  Spring piston rifles will need attention more often.

Well depends on how much you will use it. The .22 rimfire should last a long time with just a little cleaning and lube.
My Crosman M1 Carbine air rifle still works as well as it did in 1966,when I got it for Christmas!

You made me laugh, but an excellent question. I know it may be like comparing apples to oranges. Guess, I thinking more on the lines of straight shot count. I'm hoping to get 10,000 out of my NP2 before I wear it out. If I keep up the pace I'm at now, that is not in the distant future.

There are plenty of 22's from the 1940's and earlier still shooting.

There are a few up here in Canada, made by Norinco.
Copys of CZ/BRNO and others.
Apparently they function quite well, but are roughly finished.
As to how long they will last, I won't be finding out.('cause I'm not going to buy one)
I expect to pass my CZ455 down without any work being done to it but my HW 97KT may need seals and a spring in the future.(otherwise rock solid)

I got a Norinco copy of a Browning 22 ATD about twelve years ago , it was used . I also got a Crosman Nitro venom in .22 cal. in June of 2013 . Don't shoot either from December till April . I have put well over ten thousand rounds thru both and no problems . I see breaking down and wearing out as two separate categories.  Once set up and shooting, the airgun will probably require maintenance before the powder burner.  Does that constitute "breaking down"?  There are probably less moving parts to fail in a firearm.

What is wearing out?  Is that the point at which you can no longer get replacement parts?  As long as you can get parts you can fix about anything.  There is a point at which, even though replacement parts are available, it is no longer economically feasible to repair a given item.

That said, I think the firearm would outlast the airgun.

i have a crosman  150 made in the early 50s that i just sent to tim mcmurray for new seals.
i also have a malin 989 22lr made at the same time but it needs a new  clip.
both are good for another 100years.
both are american made.
these american guns are good for many generations.

the 150 is a better gun than anything crosman makes today.

Firearms are generally made of much thicker and stronger steel than air rifles.  No contest.  Firearms don't use huge springs or gas tubes for their propellant.  Again, no contest.  It is comparing two quite different things.
And I also have a couple Chinese .22LR rifles, the Norinco JW-27 sporter and TU-KKW copy of the Mauser WWII trainer.  Both having the identical BRNO-style action.  Both shoot remarkably well for 'cheap Chinese' rifles.
No matter what the subject, the Chinese CAN make good quality items, IF they are held to our level of QC.  Too often they are allowed to cut corners.
