I know...another DIY posting. In my defense, it's "dangerous" cold up here, so I'm scratching my shooting itch by knocking out a few projects that have been on my list for a while now.
Made a couple of wind flags out of stuff I had laying around. I did buy the 1/8" brass rod ($3.49) but that's my total pricetag for three flags (I'll make the third one tomorrow).
Posts are fiberglass rods from old window blinds, flags are from one of those cheap thin cutting boards, counterweight was made from some ancient brass plumbing fittings, bushings are delrin from the tuning parts box, stainless spindles and bronze bushings from (don't laugh) the guts of some worn-out Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaners (I gutted the tiny squirrel cage motors inside). When the ground thaws and I can push them in, the flags will be even with my target stand.
I'm running out of things to do!

Wow, that is cool looking - especially in the first picture. Hee hee
Jokes aside, that looks like something I might want in my back yard. It would help me determine which direction to go for a bicycle ride. Thanks!

I can see that I need to build a larger version of the wind vane I used to make for R/C Sailing.... It was sensitive enough to detect the warm air leaving a doorway at the top and the cool air entering at floor level.... The pivot was a piece of 1/32" piano wire with glass beads to carry the weight.... They were small, but VERY sensitive.... Balancing was critical on a yacht because they had to work at any angle of heel (they were at the masthead)....
